Happy Birthday Killer Queen!
-
Can you feel the looove tonight? I will be getting into the fall spirit (it barely broke 80 degrees today so I guess it's fall ) by making my fan-friggin-tastic butternut squash soup. It's kind of like the squash soup Wolfgang Puck serves at his chain outlets, only way the hell better. If you like deadly decadent food, I'll share this one. Come Mardi Gras time I might even share my gumbo recipe.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) I know a couple of people in that industry and it's mighty interesting how things are going right now on that whole deal. To say the least. Still sounds like they are pretty far apart though. IIRC, Pixar wants some of the aftermarket licensing revenues that pretty much went 100% to The Mouse under the first deal. My gut feeling is that Cars is not going to continue the trend of Pixar record breakers when it comes out. I think a big part of that is that Dreamworks and Warner have both pretty much caught up technology-wise, and any new offering is going to have to be head and shoulders above the field to stand out. I also think from a visual imagination standpoint Cars is going to be a letdown. Between Nick Park's (the Wallace and Gomit guy) Chevron ads a few years back, to the Putt Putt and TonkaTown video and computer games and such, the anthromorphized car thing has already kinda been done to death. Just my opinion, and I'll be one of teh people taking his family on the first weekend like I always do I'm sure. Chicken Little was quite good, and technically it was as polished as any of the Pixar offerings. But the story was nowhere near as strong, very much a one-trick pony of an idea, so they had to rely on the strength of individual vignettes. We somehow have two of the only 84 theaters nationwide that are showing it in the new Disney 3-D format, and that was pretty amazing. Any lack of technical progress in the computer animation is made up for by the new 3-D technology if you are fortunate enough to be in striking distance of on of the 3-D equipped theaters.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) Oh stop that. OK, OK, I admit I still giggle like a schoolgirl when I see the name Homo erectus. Is that better?

QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Dorky question, but didn't the neandrathal line die out? And we evolved from a separate line, homo erectus (I think)? Just wondering. Homo erectus is currently believed to be a specialization of the Homo ergaster line and which died out ca. 200,000 ybp and is not a precursor to modern human populations. Homo sapiens idaltu is, I believe still the oldest known H. sapiens subspedcies, and it's about 160K ybp. Which Homo line it deroved from is still not yet agreed on, but there is a substantial temporal and morphological gap between this subspecies and the latest known occurrence of Homo erectus. Modern man is most likely derived from the European (Cro-magnon) Homo sapiens line which came out of northern Africa more than 100K ybp. EDIT to ad: Soxy, you are right, Homo neanderthalensis was also an evolutionary dead end, having died out 30K ybp. Published studies within just the last 1-2 years does have another congener, Homo floresiensis persisting as late as 12K years ago. So wild to think of a time when modern man and a number of Homo congeners simultaneously existed.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) How easily some of you are mislead: Robertson: "If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city." Yet somehow you translate that to Robertson wanting disaster to fall upon that city. The absence of logic drives the people to insanity. See France. Everybody knows what Pat was saying, nobody (except Robertson followers) has been misled. To make sure of it, Pat's follow-on clarification cuts to the chase The action in question, clearly, is the Dover vote. What do you think Robertson has in mind when he cautions to be on the lookout for the consequences of that action? The absence of logic drives the people to the 700 Club.

I was actually surprised when I found those. I thought they had been turned into Freedon Speakers.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) lol, thats not the problem, the problem is that I don't have access to the actual .swf file. Just the web address. Unless the program can somehow steal their file and I'm not aware of it, if thats the case then JACKPOT :-P. Pale, That site has the file, georgerag.swf, in a browsable subdirectory at http://www.planetdan.net/pics/misc/

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) You can try using this program: http://www.eltima.com/download/flashdecompiler/ I have never done any shockwave programming, but I was able to look at the code. Thanks, I'll give it a spin.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Actually Flaxx, I have a program that reverses the code. I'll have to look at it. Will that work once the files have been shocked? I assume you could decompile protected Director dcr files, but I didn't know you could decompile the shockwave files. But if so. . .

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) You telling me this kid got raped by an 87 year old man? If he didn't want to have sex witht he 87 year old guy i think he could have gotten away rather easily... no? Agreed. Like I said, there had to be a degree of consent, unless the kid is mentally challanged or something.
-
Are there any other MM Direector programmers here?? I'd love to put heads together and figure out how the behaviors attached to each body part work to sum the virtual weights of all the parts and get the whole body to behave appropriately. It really is impressive the way the "weight" and orientation of the body behave to give a pretty realistic free fall, collision, and balance behaviors. OK, until then, I'll just nerd out about it by myself.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) There is one way to prevent that... don't act like you are better than everyone else. I'm sorry. . . did you say something? /snooty OK, point taken.

I agree that Mercy is getting piled on here. In general there is a double standard about teen sexual activity for men and women, and his comments were based on that modern day reality. Also, the comment is less inflammatory to me at least because in this story the kid is not 10 or 12, he is 16. Even back in the caveman days when a lot of us were growing up ( ), it was not strikingly unusual for 16 year olds to be sexually active or on the cusp of sexual activity. Don't get me wrong. The 87 year old guy and the 16 year old is really really vile. But there has to be at least some level of consent on the part of the kid who is almost an adult. That would clearly not be the case if the boy were younger. OK, back to poster bashing.
