QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) There's been just way too many of these references around here lately. Yes there have been. Way too many.

Happy Birthday to tthe man who made me rethink my opinion about at least some Twins fans.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) As long as that's the prevailing attitude then Darwinism is gonna keep right on picking people off one at a time and Im gonna go right on saying "I told ya so". People should have to put "Darwinism" in quotes when they use it in a human social context like that.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) *shudder* vegemite is the devil. Eh, it's not so bad. No worse than licking the inside of a week old sardine can at least. Whodathunk Colin Hay would have duped the world about the 'joys' of a vegemite sammich?

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) Hold on, let me do the math. . .13? Oh my god, that was 10 years ago. AGH! I'm ancient. And for the record, the first boy I ever kissed (well, ever kissed and enjoyed it) was an Aussie boy I met there. All together now: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww. He's still thinking about you . . Ah, there's no predicting what you might do on a good old vegemite bender.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) So in other words according to Tex's article, it wasn't a leak, but some smart research done by a bunch of people trying to follow the lawbreaking of the CIA. Not lawbreaking. Law skirting.

Thing is, I'm also a big Ralph Bakshi, so i enjoyed his take on Fritz in the movie version. No, it wasn't Crumb's Fritz, but I still think it catches a lot of the flavor of street life at the time. It wasn't as good as Wizards or Heavy Traffic, or even American Pop, but it was a solid Bakshi film from his heyday. I don't know about the Pekar/Crumb relationship, or why Crumb seems to slight him now.

I saw that on Crumb book on Amazon, it looks good. Thanks for the review. Kitchen Sink repronted his Legends of the Blues trading card set last year, and supposedly they are also doing/have done the jazz and country sets as well. 11 bucks for reprinted sets beats the heck out of a hundred dollars or so for the originals unless you are a serious collector. I suppose you've seen the movie Crumb by Terry Zwigoff? Really gives you a good look at how warped the guy is. I suggested to my wife we watch that and American Splendor as a double feature one night, but she didn't go for it.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) Any r crumb fans here? Natural-ly.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) That pic is so 2004. Ach, only recently discovered the joys of reading inane wingnut blogs, so I only just now came across it.

Call it aiding the opposition or whatever, but if one of the wingnuts here doesn't start using this baby in their sig or avatar, then they seriously dropped the ball. With love, from a Liberal Pussy.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) When you dump the 8-tracks and upgrade your radar range, you may also wish to buy a computer. whoo-aah! I'll dump my 8-trax when you ditch the Victrola, grand-dad. My dual 2GHz G5 at work may be a tad slow compared to the new and very sweet quad core 2.5GHz model (= eight double-precision floating-point units = up to 76.6 gigaflop speeds = Kicks more ass than Rex Kick Ass), but it will still outrun any old cheap Wintel iron that isn't overclocked and supercooled. I want one of those quad cores for Christmas, btw, if you were wondering what to get me. Hey, do you know what you get if you cross a mac with my ex girlfriend? A computer that never goes down.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) Now I could teach you Aussie Slang, but after this thread, now I'm not so sure......... Fair dinkum? Teach us some slang and it's my shout at the pub.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) U238 has a half life of about 4.5 billion years, so it's roughly an order of magnitude longer than U235. Th232 has a half life of about 15 billion years. So on all of those, we'd expect to see very measurable variations over geologic time. But if the universe is only 10,000 years old, what's the point? And thanks for the primer, it is appreciated and I can see why looking at all three together makes sense.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Look, I come back and this place gets smarter... Only by comparison, only by comparison. You're what they call the 'anti-curvebreaker.'
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) Actually, it's both U235 and U238. They're vastly more powerful when you use them togehter, and you can measure them at the same time. Do they both decay to Pb-207, or does U-238 have a distinct decay product? Is U-238's half-life also in the 700 my range? Welcome to the Sex, Lies, and UberGeeks forum.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Only anthropologists really care about "Carbon" dating. You want the real fun of the earth...you need to talk about more general radiometric dating, using far more isotopes than just C-14. Ooh I'm just itching for another quality evolution thread. Yeah, we went over that in the tutorial. I turmed PA onto the buauty that us U-235 for dating the really old stuff. Like Bea Arthur's lingerie, for example.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) Jim, a friend from my bible study lent me a three tape video set on defending creationism. I'm gonna take notes...impending evolution thread to come:) I can't wait. You had better write those notes in crayon.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) I don't know. But I've never gotten a good answer to this question: What the hell is a Sloane? I've heard people called that and read it, but what the hell does it mean? Being a stupid git, I wouldn't know.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Don't be such a prat. Is that better or worse than being a sod?
