  1. Good to see the UKs civil servants fighting the good fight.
  2. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) Did you read this entire thing? :sleep You're just not getting enough sleep. I read the whole thing (twice!) and thought it was pretty cool. I don't cvover polar ecology in class until the end of this semester, so I'm sure by then there will be lots of good imagery of the collision to use. Then my whole class might look like :sleep :sleep :sleep :sleep :sleep :sleep

    Farenheit

    QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) Didn't he forfeit any opportunity to win an Oscar by releasing F911 early on DVD? I didn't think so... as long as it had a theatrical release that preceded the DVD release. I could be wrong though.
  4. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) i liked them and own them but they fall short to the originals, imo. maybe my expectations were too high... Yes, FAR short, even though I also oen them. Lucas has simply forgotten how to actually direct human beings, reliant as he has become on the CG element. And this from the completely people-oriennted director of American Grafitti. I'm hoping III will be his redemption.

    Cingratulations, Mr. Moore. Next stop, Oscars (Is the 15 second delay in effect for another fine acceptance speech?}
  6. From this and the trailers, maybe - just maybe - Episode III can deliver. And Tex... LASERS?!? Beg pardon, those are light sabres... Not as clumsy or random as a blaster, an elegant weapon with a more civilized edge. Episode III must be right around the corner - I'm getting my freak... er, geek on.
  7. Kool Beanz! Nothing to worry about. It's always a big ol' love fest here in SlappyLand!
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) I think it's going to court and no one will win. If it goes into the stands for a walk off home run, the fan clearly has ownership. I doubt this has ever happened before. BTW don't forget our alter ego http://www.talksox.com if you want to chat this up with Red Sox fans. Thst's not entirely true. I heard on the radio this morning Josh Becket kept the last out ball from the 2003 WS, and still keeps it in his glove under his bed. Maybe the Bosox ball is more valuable from a historic, curse-breaking standpoint, though.
  9. Spare the Rod, Spoil the Hairdresser.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) catorce is spanish also. you discussing Spanish with the guy living on the Mexico border ¿Uno mas cervesa, por favor?
  11. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Outstanding!
  12. QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) No one I know is coming for the gays. You're joking, right? Here you go. Yep. Nobody's coming for the gays. The Life and Death of Billy Jack Gaither Matthew Shepard and Steve Kennedy - But what's two more dead f**s? And this guy is DEFINATELY NOT coming for the gays, eh? And, as far as Tex' quote. Hitler was never coming for Christian America, just a buncha Jews an ocean away. Better not to get involved there, too?
  13. QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) Now what made me think you were a teenager??? For the record, I have NEVER seen anyone call another poster gay on this site. I've seen people call other things gay, but not as a personal attack. Gay is a new term. It came along like 4 or 5 years ago. Ach, it's not a new term when used to mean stupid. It was used that way when I was in HW wwwaaaayyy back in the caveman days of the 80s. But the fact that that is one common use for a term IN NO WAY means that it has to be condoned or allowed here if the 'official' decision is that the board is better off without that or similar denegrating language being used. There's a gajillion porn sites out there but it doesn't mean that this site is going to allow the posting of similar graphic content, and this is the same thing. There are all kinds of forums in which anyone who wants to can converse that way, or any other way they choose. The high school halls still seem to work, so keep it there and rise above it here.
  14. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) It's the point that it's a sign of disrespect. I mean do you really have to do it. Just let it go. It's a rule. FOLLOW IT! Your lucky your allowed to post here at all. Some people get it. There could be zero gay members here, zero Jewish members here, zero black members here, yada yada... and those of us who care about such things would STILL strive to maintain a civil and respectful decorum around here when it comes to ethnic/social/religious group affiliations. Which doesn't mean all of that and much more can't be discussed here. It is discussed and debated and argued. But the debates are actually meaningful if people use the littlest bit of restraint and rise above the attacks and the slurs.
  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Apple Pie with Cheddar cheese on top sounds nasty. You got that right. A perfectly good waste of pie amd cheese. Some things are not meant to go together.
  16. The Swahili language has no irregular verbs. Zero. It's true.

    Nickleback OWNED

    QUOTE(Cali @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 07:17 AM) I doubt there are many fans of them here, or at least I hope not, but this is pretty f***ing funny: http://www.thewebs***e.net/nickelback.htm Actually, together, they sound like one interesting song. Maybe they originally wrote a countermelody to the first song (ala' Stipe/Mills' best stuff), but then scrapped the idea. So two years later when they rrealized they had no new ideas they just dusted off the countermelody and the backing arrangement of song one and, voila, a NEW SONG!
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Pilots have said it is about the same as if someone flashed their brights at you in a car. Their worry, at least the two that I heard interviewed was that the laser was part of an aiming device and a missle was coming next. That is what pissed them off, and it would me also. What I object to is the Patriot Act was to fight terrorism. This clearly wasn't an act of terrorism, just a Dad showing off to his daughter. F Well said.
  19. I've been one of the people torn over the prospect of signing him, not because he's not a significant upgrade as a veteran catcher with some offense to offer as well, but because of his rep and the Sox' past with him. I gotta say I like what he's saying, and I think this will end up being quite a solidifying move. Damn, two years ago if you told me that the Sox fan base would be having a big lovefest for AJ I'd have never believed it.
  20. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) But then, since you're classless, you're gonna high-tail it like a little b**** ( no offense intended to female dogs ) in your tiny little clown car.... Yep. Me and 10 of my classless clown cronies.
  21. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Now that you mention that.... Since most of those cases get thrown out of court anyway I liked the idea that one cop had to simply ticket these people. However......endangering the lives of a couple of hundred people in the air and who knows how many on the ground is not something that should be dealt with by a slap on the wrist. I like the Chicago ticketing idea as well. As for the real danger the plane and its passengers were in, I'm leaving that to the qualified experts. In this case, they seem to agree it would be unlikely a pilot is incapacitated by the red light in the cockpit. And I'm not saying the guy shouldn't have been pursued as he was. Obviously there are legitimate terror threats to be concerned about and the reports should be taken seriously. Which is why he shouldn't walk away with no consequences. But 25 years is "treating dandruff by decapitation."
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) So what? If the Patriot Act helps put this asshole away for a long time then so be it. But 25 years?? Asshole or not. let the punishment fit the crime. Give him a fine, a couple months in lockup, and a couple of years' probation. It's like some jerk in airport security line who makes a stupid bomb joke. Absolutely he should know better than that, and absolutely there should be a harsh consequence for the action. But you can lock up an asshole like that for maybe 1 or 2 years and still make the point. He doesn't have to be taken from his family and from his position as a productive (if moronic) member of society, because of momentary poor judgement that had no tangible harmful consequences. Like mandatory minimums for first time social drug offenders, these are not the people that need to be taking up space in the prisons for decades at a time.
  23. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) You need a hug? No, a cot. :sleep Actually, the kid is fighting a viral thing that has her kind of miserable right now. We spent the morning on New Years' Eve in the ER bacause she was having unexplained chest pains that appear now to be related to the infection. Happily, she is on the mend.
  24. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) Actually, she's sleeping pretty well, thank you. Dang, mine isn't. And she'll be 7 next week!
  25. Let's play nice, folks. For the record, as a card carrying Classless Clown in good standing, I was not offended by that last remark. But if someone does offfend me, they're gonna get a BIG RED SHOE in the ass.
