Congressman quits over sexual harrassment
Rex Kickass replied to Rex Kickass's topic in The Filibuster
If I recall correctly, the only thing the Democrats could do, they did. They can't kick him out of the body because he didn't commit a crime. They DID censure him. They DID even go so far as hire an independent prosecutor to investigate the charges against him and found nothing. The Democrats made serious changes to the page program to protect the pages and give them more serious supervision. How many independent prosecutors have the GOP led Congress put forth to see what's going on? And furthermore, exactly who in the Democratic leadership of 2006 was protecting the jackass in the scandal back in 1983? That's like me using Nixon's dirty tricks in 1972 and 1973 to justify alleged wrong doing for the Clinton administration. Pointless, inane and misleading. It's just a tactic of people who want to deflect criticism from the Republicans because they can't stomach the fact that everything this leadership says they believe in, they don't actually give a s*** about. -
I love John Lennon, but had he continued recording albums in the 1980s, I think people would ultimately have been disappointed with what he released, not unlike the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, etc. People would love the album at first and then nobody would remember it a year later. In fact, listening to Double Fantasy, I find myself liking Yoko's work more and more while John's just kinda fades away to me.

Youtube had actually been actively working with licensing companies to allow their music to be used for this purpose. I expect google to continue those negotiations.

Turns out Jim Kolbe didn't tell Foley to cut it out after all. He told a Foley staffer. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/10/10/fol...ndal/index.html Emphasis mine. -
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) This is my late season push for funniest poster. It's good to be back. Let's just see if this warm and fuzzy feeling lasts...lol, I'm sure we're only one religion thread away from ruining this. I just wanna win the best liberal poster award. I finish second so often, I feel like a Democrat!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Another random thought here.... if it isn't OK to group the radical Islamists as represently all Islam, why is it OK to paint all repubs are being a part of this scandal? Guys like Hastert I understand, but unless Dems are calling the entire party coverup artists and child molesters, this should be affecting anyone except the few people who have been named, right? There is a distinction to be made here I think. There is a difference between "All GOP are child predator protectors." and "This is symptomatic of the culture of corruption that the GOP leadership has provided in Congress where nobody seems to need to practice what they preach." The people that argue the first are idiots. The people that argue the second make sense. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) Gerry Studds saids "hi" The Democrats along with the Republicans voted to censure Gerry Studds. It's not the Democratic party's fault that his district chose to re-elect the scumbag. It's the people in his district's fault. -
I'm willing to bet that there will be outs to that clause, excepting times of national economic and security crises for example...

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) what can I say. I'd use a metaphor about PA being a bottle of fine wine that gets better with age or being an acquired taste...but then I couldn't live with the thought of any of you with their mouths on my spout. I think I threw up a little bit in my mouth. Just like when I read most of your posts! Welcome back PA.

Congressman quits over sexual harrassment

It seems as if Republican congressmen knew of this situation as early as last week, this summer, this spring, last year, 2001, 2000. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6100800855.html -
Evan Bayh doesn't deny Presidential run
Rex Kickass replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
He never said he wasn't running for the VP nod. He's also a great fundraiser. -
Actually I think she'd work as hard as possible to do so. This won't be a large majority in the Congress - 5 to 10 seats. She'll be able to do a pay-go type situation because there is a good cross section of bipartisan support that will force her into doing that actually.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) So, that link you gave me, showed that in a month, Braley's 54-41 lead flipflopped to a Whalen 47-34 lead. Both may be outliers, but I'm pretty damn sure something big would have to happen to bring on a 20 point drop. I read that the Braley camp has distanced themselves from this poll, as expected, while the Whalen camp is now pushing it, as expected. It's a prime seat to switch from red to blue, so it's a pretty big deal. I already voted.....but something weird is going on in NE Iowa. Iowans don't change their minds that violently that quickly. It's a data set. If the poll was weighted in anyway to reflect a specific area of the district that's traditionally red - it might explain the weird data.

It's splitting hairs, Steff I know. But physically a 16, 17 year old is an adult - even if mentally or legally that isn't the case. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) Quit making excuses and just call this spade a spade. They are sick bastard pedophiles. By definition, someone going after a young pubescent male or femaile is not a pedophile. A child molester sure. A sexual predator, absolutely. A creep and a half, most definitely. But a pedophile, no. -
Happy birthday and such.

I don't doubt that's the case. However, I hold my Congressmen to a standard. A standard that involves not having cybersex with potentially underage boys while voting on the floor of Congress. It changes nothing. He's still a creep and he's still a child predator. The GOP leadership still knew about it and still chose to do nothing - whether or not the creepy old guy was led on by a couple kids because he's a creepy old guy. Limbaugh bringing this up, is just a way for him to shift the blame on someone other than Foley, or his own party. -

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) Ok, the 97 or 98 % who are not violent fanatics are too scared to stand up to the 2 or 3% of their religion that make them look bad and cause them trouble. You get funny looks in airports BECAUSE of that 2 or 3 percent. You have people watching you (the 97 or 98 percent) BECAUSE of that 2 or 3 percent. Do something about it, and STFU. By doing what? Overreacting? Like when the 25 year old dark skinned muslim was denied boarding for wearing a t-shirt with Arabic script? Like when they divert flights because someone left a Blackberry on board accidentally from a previous flight? Like when jets divert at the aid of fighter jets because someone has a panic attack on board? Why don't they do that for white people? After all, it was a white person who bombed the Murrow building in Oklahoma City. It was a white person who bombed the Atlanta Olympics. White people regularly bombed the London Underground in the 1970s and 1980s under the guise of freedom for Northern Ireland. So much so that they removed every trash can in the London subways system well before the 2005 bombings. But we don't profile for white people. Why? Because there are plenty of them here in the US. Some would say that there are more white people around the US than any other type of people. A person who appears middle-eastern, Arab, Persian... tends to stand out. And there aren't that many of them, relatively speaking. So it's an easy profile to make. -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) sox pride just opened back up again. here's a perfect example of the logic used to close a thread. I'm closing this thread. Because nobody has anything new to say. It's a conspiracy, it's not. It's a conspiracy, it's not. This got talked out a month ago and its boring. -------------------- So if a thread is boring or repetitive to a moderator, it automatically gets closed??? There are reasons why every thread I close is being closed. Not all of them are disclosed. Sometimes its to protect people from themselves. Sometimes its because its being bumped up for little to no reason. In this case, it was both.

Looking for that last stocking stuffer this year?
Rex Kickass replied to EvilMonkey's topic in The Filibuster
That's a long time ago, but you don't see any Christian sectarian violence, as long as you ignore the IRA attacks in England, the break up of Yugoslavia and the sectarian violence that followed... or the terrorist bombing of Hindus by Christian extremists in India in 2004, or the Christian Identity terrorist Eric Rudolph who bombed the 1996 Olympics, abortion clinics and gay bars. But let's not split hairs. -
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) Embarassed to say, but I have actually been watching that horrible Flavor Flav dating show on VH1. It's worse than you could imagine. That show is even more amazing than Being Bobby Brown. And Breaking Bonaduce premieres this month!!! I VH1

No party has ever had a candidate running in all 435 Congressional districts. However, this year I believe the Dems are running a candidate in all but 9 spots.
