  1. Hey, in New Jersey, I just get WFAN. Where if it isn't Yankees, Mets, Giants or Jets, it doesn't exist. After the SuperBowl, they were talking about the Mets. The Mets! Last time I checked, they didn't play in any SuperBowl ever. They didn't even mention the game outside of the updates.
  2. If you're color blind, it doesn't work.
  3. We have someone in the White House who doesn't flip flop? Really? Who is that?
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) Enjoy your relish. I'm not eating hot dogs. But thanks.
  5. It's not a liberal boo hoo stance. It's a new testament stance, if ya gotta know.
  6. First off, when we invaded Afghanistan, the people we sent to Cuba seem to qualify as a prisoner of war.... Which seems to be the very definition of an enemy combatant. Here are the protections afforded prisoners of war So the problem is what, again, with the Geneva Conventions?
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) This is a case where there we have to find an appropriate middle ground. We aren't dealing with a sovereign nation that has to answer to world opinion. On the other hand, we are exactly that. Our enemy plays by no rules, yet we have to play by rules. We can't let them keep beheading us without striking back, yet we can't cross a line that puts us in the same light. Do I think we should be sticking to the Geneva convention ver batim? No! Do I think we should resort to maiming and killing detainees? No! This is not an army we are fighting, it's a gang of thugs. There's a middle ground somewhere that we have to find. A place where we can be effective in gathering intelligence needed to protect the homeland and advance toward winning the war on terror, yet a place where we can still maintain our national dignity. This ain't black and white. There's no middle ground when it comes to maintaining human dignity. Who that human is is immaterial to me. All humans deserve a basic level of respect and dignity, regardless of their behavior.
  8. The Federal Discrimination Amendment couldn't even get 50 votes in the Senate (It needs 67 to pass.) The vote failed 49-48.
  9. Except on September 10th, the Bush administration was threatening to veto a defense spending bill because a 66 million dollar earmark was shifted from a weapons system program to bolstering anti-terrorism efforts. In the summer of 2001, there was a lot of clatter on the Hill about terrorism - from Rudman and Hart. Unfortunately, few people on either side of the leadership that summer seemed interested in talking to them.
  10. WHO TV declares Culver the winner. My friend is his head scheduler.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) Can somebody explain to me why somebody would want to be gay? In my experiences, it seems to be people craving attention. Any attention is good attention to somebody who is craving it. Do most of you agree with Rock that it is a choice, or do you believe that it is an innate behavior? The only logical thing that I have heard is "God's way of stopping over population", but don't all boys in middle school have raging hormones for the females? Even the gay guys that I know from my high school were straight in middle school and "liked" girls. You asked for an explanation. So here's one. I didn't want to be what I am. I fought it for five years. I still can't be honest with my parents about who I am and the people I date. I had to hide who I am for an entire year from everyone I lived near in an attempt to save my career. I can't be honest with my brother because he'd disown me. One of my best friends tried to kill himself multiple times because he couldn't accept his own homosexuality. I've personally called 911 twice because of other friends who couldn't accept their own homosexuality and tried to end their own lives. The leader of the religion I was born into once said that homosexuals don't even deserve human rights. My religion deserted me. The organization that I grew up in won't let me give back some of the help that I've received in becoming the person I am because of who I love. When I find the person that I want to spend the rest of my life with, chances are I will not be guaranteed visitation rights in the hospital, the ability to carry out his final wishes if they conflict with his family's, and all sorts of little rights and privileges that married couples take for granted will not be available to me and my partner. But I guess its all for the attention. I don't mean to be harsh, because I don't think a lot of people who view homosexuality as a choice understand what they're saying. But I'm pretty sure that my sexuality wasn't a choice. Whether its a product of biology, chemistry, psychology, whatever - I frankly don't know and don't care. I am what I am. I can accept it, embrace it and live a life that's honest and positive and responsible to myself and the world around me - or I can lie about it some more. I didn't choose who I love. Love found me. And although this love has had me "lose" a lot, I've gained a lot more. I lost my religion, I kept my faith. Guess what, I got the better deal. Every time I'm honest with myself and honest with others about who I am, I'm proud of myself. Because it's just the right thing to do. So I go to the pride festivals, I support the rights of people like me - because ultimately its good for the rights of everyone, and I try to be a good person and help others. I don't know if I had "chosen" to be straight if any of the good things about me would have ever come out. But fortunately, I didn't choose anything. So yeah, I'm pretty damn proud of who I am. BTW: I liked girls in middle school because I thought that's what you were supposed to do. Not because my hormones were raging.
  12. RIP to the 5th Beatle.
  13. I had two uncles that were second wave.
  14. I'm glad that you feel I'm as important as our President - but frankly, I just don't do that much vacationing.
  15. It's been amazing how good he's gotten in a year or so. Every once in a while I wince, but he's really gotten a good grasp on the fundamentals of good radio and his show is pretty interesting now and again.
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) I know. At the same time, though, it amazes me the amount of attention the acts of a few get over the whole. When those few represent the highest level of our federal government, I think that attention is warranted.
  17. I listen to Jerry Springer on occasion, Randi Rhodes on occasion, Brian Lehrer, Lionel, and sometimes John Gambling.
  18. Except most of the people in Guantanamo aren't or weren't terrorists to begin with. So that's one major hole in your theory. And secondly, when we change how we deal with other human beings to fight the terrorists - when we stoop to their level which you clearly advocate - you become the terrorists. If this is about protecting our way of life, its about making sure that we don't change our values to do it either.
  19. An investigative panel does not have to make all of its findings public. The 9/11 commission certainly didn't. What would make this any different?
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) And I said that. Uh, oh, we agree on something. I said about 5 posts ago that I might have intertwined something that I didn't mean to. How does that keep happening? We've agreed on more than we disagree on lately.
  21. The FCC tried to investigate this program to determine its legality and the NSA flatly refused to provide any information. The FCC has since said it will no longer pursue an investigation.
  22. I've said they ought to be treated fairly and humanely. I've said that we ought to treat them as we would anyone else in our custody. Not because they're deserving of constitutional rights but because it's the right thing to do.
  23. QUOTE(mreye @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) Yep. It'll be 10 years ago this August. I'm going to hold a vigil. Pssst...Yes, there is. It's called the 14th floor. I'll send a can of Schlitz for you to pour into the ground in memoriam.
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) See, I couldn't get into them. To me it sounds like the worst parts of Black Sabbath, Monster Magnet and Led Zeppelin. I see trucker hats and "vintage" Foghat t-shirts when I hear Wolfmother. Remember the Foghat Principle. Your fourth album should be a Double Live Album!
