In either case, what prevented the NSA or FBI or administration from attempting to obtain a FISA warrant within 72 hours after the surveillance started? -
Except usually, in these cases, its power of some people - and they usually aren't even in the local market.

Excuse me, you're clearly trying to ruin my thread derailment and I'm not having that.

They could also choose to not watch the TV show. I'm not a fan of pressure on affiliates to drop programming. I'm a fan of pressure on advertisers to stop supporting programming. I'm a fan of encouraging people to not watch a station because of programming. But mostly, I'm a fan of watching "controversial" programming disappearing because its just so f***ing boring. My favorite was The Savage Nation! on MSNBC. It got the axe because he said something about I hope that gay person catches AIDS and dies or whatever. But it was gonna get the axe because it was flatlining in the ratings anyway, getting 0.1s. That's always more fun to watch.

It's totally fine. Just stupid.

That's kind of par for the course in this forum.

It doesn't walk at all. It's an inanimate object. Nor does it quack or smell or do anything other than lie there in cyberspace.

I love how linking to a news article now constitutes blaming Bush.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) so as long as I don't name names, I can say.... I hate homosexuals and their abhorrant anal sex. If you want a quick ticket to hell, your best bet is to suck down on some dudes dong and write a children's book called "you're different and that's super". If I'm wrong, please let me know. I'm trying to find the line. That's not the line. I don't name names either but I really hate hypocritical people who pretend being christian so that they can play the martyr on internet message boards and hold grudges against people they've never even met. No wait, hate's not the word... I think its more pity. Who has the best sig on here: "Arguing on an internet message board is like being in the Special Olympics, even if you win - you're still retarded."

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) People from certain sectors of society say precisely that sort of thing all the time, and I consider such people in general to be mouthbreathers. Stop making fun of me because I have a cold.

Krugman taken to task over Canadian healthcare

QUOTE(juddling @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) I don't have to experience anal rape to know that I would not like it, just like I don't have to experience socialized medicine to know that it isn't the best. How would you like to go to med school, work your ass off in residency, and then have the government tell you that you have to do X,Y & Z for what we give you, YOUR costs and bills be damned? In systems that work, that's not how it works. Universal health care has a lot of different forms and modes and you're describing one of them. And not the best. -
Hey, wow, YASNY understands that there's a difference. Thanks!

That is, obviously, the same thing. We aren't comparing apples to rocks there are we?

You beat me to the Amanpour story. AMERICAblog which I usually don't read has a good summation about why this is so disturbing as an invasion of our privacy. Anyone within a degree or two of separation from Amanpour might have been affected because she might have been tipped off about where something might happen sometime maybe in the future. Your rights are like your arms, if you get one cut off - it's gone for good. If they sew it back on, it still will never be the same.

South Park Really Ticks Off Catholics
Rex Kickass replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in The Filibuster
I love how people see someone attack a church apparatus and think of it as a direct attack on their faith. On the whole has the Catholic Church apparatus done more good than bad? Probably. But that doesn't make the Church apparatus any less culpable or anymore excusable for actions that it has taken over the last fifty years. Using the Eucharist as a political tool is contrary to my faith's beliefs. Sadly, I agree with LCR. I think my faith and my religion got separated somewhere along the way. Maybe its because the current pope once said that people like me don't deserve human rights while he was a Cardinal. Or maybe its because I grew up with a Diocese that was more concerned with fundraising than doing the right thing. I don't as an indictment of Catholics. I see this as an indictment of the church apparatus. And there's a big difference. -

And just curious, your experience is what with socialized medicine? In 1994, I had infections on my feet in France. I was able to get a doctor to take good care of me and get medicine - and because of my semi-nationality, I was able to take care of things quickly and easily. I'm in my mid-20's. I don't have health insurance. I don't have the 200 to spare every month in my budget. As it is, I'm barely hanging on right now.
