Not so much KS and IN as much as Arkansas and Tennessee. West Virginia too.

You're acting like this is a Presidential year. It's not. It's a year based on state and local races. Folks like Warner in Virginia and Schweitzer in Montana are more likely to make the difference than Howard Dean or John Kerry.

I got two more years before that title qualifies thank you very much. Seven years before "creepy" gets added to the title.

No. the way it works is I'm playing in place of Penn State tonight. Helps to insure my pool victory.

This isn't relating to political success as much as general feeling throughout the year.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) Hope you didn't think long about that one... I'd rather scoop up raw sewage with my bare hands then do a job that would risk loss of life of myself or someone in my family. That would stop you from the sewage job too. The smell would kill you.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) Life or home...?? Are you kidding me??? Life. That just makes me think you'd never mine coal, period. It's a risky job when its done safely. Roof collapses happen in safe mines sometimes too.

A true gyro has feta on it. Falafel is a fried ball of fava beans and/or chickpeas. Usually served in a salad with tahini, hummus or tsatsiki sauce, salad, spices and chilis. to learn more: http://www.falafelgame.com

If your situation is working at someplace that might be potentially unsafe or losing your family's home, what would you do? Mine safety needs some teeth. Potentially deadly situations the company lets go only gets them a couple hundred dollar fine? That's ridiculous.

I thought it was NATO that was handling Peacekeeping. The French and Germans and such. I want to say Afghanistan is one area that has been done right militarily. Very few combat casualties and relative peace in a tenuous security situation has really made this action shine as a success. I'm a little concerned and have been concerned about the aid situation. It seems like we have a tendency to pledge a lot and deliver little. (And by we, I mean the Western world as a whole.)

Well, they tried to separate the city actually. Just didn't work so well.

I had some killer falafel last night for dinner.

The Zionist movement predated the Nazi regime IIRC. This land is the Palestinian homeland as well. I think a big part of the problem would have been defused had both portions of the original UN resolutions leading to the creation of Israel had been fully enforced and the Palestinians been given their own home state as had also been promised. And possibly if they made Jerusalem an international city. Originally they talked about that city being the head of the UN and belonging to no land.

There's an interesting article in Slate today talking about the blogging outcry of a Texas woman who was removed from life support last month because of economic considerations despite her being conscious and responsive. I'm not really sure what I think about the issue or the concept behind the article. But its interesting and I'm curious to see what you guys think about it. http://www.slate.com/id/2133518/

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) I'm rooting for Ohio State tonight. If they win by 4, I win my office bowl pool and 200 dollars. Son of a b****. Turns out I'm wrong. I need to win one of the two games coming up.

WOR radio told me that it didn't look good. No signs of life found yet and a very high Carbon Monoxide content in the mine air after they finally broke through.

And that's sorta my point.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) http://news.pajamasmedia.com/2005/12/19/67...Will_Retu.shtml Abrmoff was an equal opportunity scumbag. If he talks, ALOT of people, on both sides, are going down. Bloomberg Media would disagree with the "equal opportunity" tag. http://www.citizensforethics.org/press/pre...p.php?view=1239 I should say at this point - to preempt the "you'll do anything to exonerate the Democrats" accusation that seems inevitable, but I hope anyone that Abramoff helped break the law with goes down hard. I just seem to get the idea - that the bulk of people he helped were Republican. Why? Cause he was one.

To play devils advocate, would it have been? What about the legal fees they'd have to mount to make it happen? For the record, the renovation is stupid.

Most people just use hamsters. They're cheaper.

From what I heard, inspections turned up around 50 violations in the mine over the last 6 months. It was a shallow mine too, which believe it or not, makes these things worse because the mine is less stable when its shallow. Or so NPR told me.

Residents of Washington D.C. pay federal taxes and I think that's really about it. Is there a city income tax there?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) Im in total agreement that the state, local and federal governments are equally to blame for this mess. My problem is that Blanco and Nagin didn't even wait for the rain to stop before blaming Bush for everything and anything that went wrong there. There was no accountability at the state and local level whatsoever for mistakes made. There's all sorts of accountability there. On every level.
