Iraqi elections deemed credible by UN
Rex Kickass replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
Well, since everyone here seems to think the UN is "worthless," I guess it isn't worth much. -
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) .........against Bob Dole?! Come on. Your mom would clean up in those states if she were running for re-election during good economic times against a tree stump like that. He just said the last time a Democrat cleaned up in the Midwest was during Vietnam.

How are the Dems being any more obstructionist than what happened during the late 1990s? Newt Gingrich shut the entire government down for Christsakes.

18% is not necessarily that bad. I'm guessing that administrative costs would include fueling airplanes and ships to bring aid, hiring people to administer the aid to the regions affected... and there were A LOT of regions affected.

We won't have an honest picture of how Bush 43 does for another 30-40 years or so I feel. We're just starting to get a good focus on Reagan, 18 years on. The hallmark of a President's success is not what he necessarily accomplishes in office, but also what happens one, five, ten, twenty years afterwords as a result of his policies.

QUOTE(Irishsox1 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) Why "Scoop" would get all in a tizzie about the communities Joe Buck mentioned is a waste of time. I recall that Joe mentioned that a lot of White Sox fans WORK (Not worked) at the stock yards. Somebody forgot to tell Joe that the stock yards have been gone for almost 40 years. Would it make Scoop happy if Joe mentioned all the White Sox fans in the Robert Taylor homes?...is that what he's looking for? As for Scoop, being a White Sox fan and writing about the White Sox not getting respect from Sports Illustrated is a valid point. Every World Series winner since 1995 has been on the cover....except the White Sox. Not to go all derailed and such, but aren't the Robert Taylor homes gone too?

Ah alright. I don't know why I forgot about the 79 shortage, but I did. Carter's presidency is still too fresh to get proper historical perspective I think. It was a failed presidency, but I don't know that it was anywhere close to the worst presidency of our history. I think we're just now getting to honest assessments of FDR, Truman, Eisenhower and JFK.

QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) naw man sleater kinney was 05, i totally forgot about that...the first song on that album was great I do love The Fox... track 3 (whose name I cant remember at the moment) really stands out for me as well. It was a relatively slow year this year. Beck's album sucked - and I'm a big fan of the "everything but the kitchen sink" style. Ben Folds was a disappointment as well. Whole albums seemed somewhat lacking for the most part, but I've found stronger singles from artists I love though.

The gas shortages were in 1973 and 1974. There were however spikes in gas prices. But we have those now, too. Carter wasn't the worst president ever. I think that right now James Buchanan would hold that title. The old bastard basically put the country in an unavoidable collision with civil war.

That's the point, guy. The guy who plans and executes is #1. He should have a spokesman, but if he did - I'm pretty sure that would make things worse.

When I was a baby I kept trying to talk but I didn't know how so I kept opening my mouth and getting really frustrated because nothing would come out according to my mom. I think if you want your daughter to have a relationship with your grandfather eventually, don't shut him out. But remember that you can control the relationship that your father has with your family. I'd keep the gifts though. Why make a situation worse? If you feel bad about keeping them, donate them to charity or something.

He will be the number 3 guy for the party. He's not running for anything.

It was so big, it never really felt real to me, ya know?

QUOTE(timotime @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) once again, what you are saying is completely contrary to what recent history has proven. Hillary would kill in the midwest?? if by kill, you mean win wisconson and MI, and lose all other midwest states, then yes, she will kill in the midwest. OH has a lot of electoral votes, as the last election proved (the whole claim about voter fraud was sore losers, and i dont blame them, but OH is a red state). and the midwest piles up votes. SOURCE??? you have absolutely no grounds to claim that hillary, or any democrat, will sweep out the midwest. I dont have one for what i say either, but the last election backs me up. you tell me when the last time a democrat cleaned up in the midwest. probably during the vietnam war is my guess. In 1996, Bill Clinton won Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Iowa too, I think. That would be cleaning up. He also won Tennessee and Arkansas.

He's great for the party - where he stands on the platform is immaterial to me. He's establishing 50 state coordinated campaign offices to help the Democratic party be more conducive to helping its candidates win offices in every state. He's changing the way that the fundraising works for the Democratic party. They are actually getting money from small donors instead of big business again. Howard Dean represents something big for the Democratic party. The actual grass roots of the party taking it back.

The more New Yorkers have seen of Senator Hillary, the more they like her. I think she's not that likely to be the dem nominee as much either - because I think you're more likely to see a Governor Warner or Schweitzer rise to the top. Straight shootin' liberal from a red state.

Not to be rude, but maybe you should get some help. AA, or a counselor or something. If you have an addiction, you need to take care of it.

There are a lot of New Yorkers who think she's doing a damn good job as their Senator. Republicans included.

Pirro was pretty much a laughingstock anyway. It was one misstep after another her whole campaign. And stupid stuff, like inadvertently insulting her host at a fundraiser, forgetting to show up to things, etc...
