  1. My boss had these meetings at work talking about our Christmas bonuses etc etc etc.... My check came today. I received no bonus. Not that I was really expecting one, given that I left here and came back - but still - if not everyone gets one, why are you making such a big deal about giving them out? Things like that remind me why I left here the first time.
  2. I think it also depends on how the taping was done. Was it a little piece? More for show than actually stopping the kid from talking? Or was it really really applied?
  3. I hate Monmouth University. Just hate em. They made the NCAAs last year btw.
  4. Sorry, its the radio dork in me.
  5. The White Sox will become America's team when they keep winning. It's dynasties that usually give you a nationwide following.
  6. I guess this is my point. The Marlins shouldn't do the same old thing as every other team because they aren't the same old team. A new team needs to do things differently or more specially based on market conditions. I don't think that Loria seems to understand that as an owner. As a result, they have teams that do the same old thing which doesn't work because he's in a market with different needs. They fail.
  7. I liked Stern on WOR-TV. I remember watching it a few times.
  8. I don't really see the problem. It happened in my school and in my bus too.
  9. I'd say its a fine day in America - but I think its a sad day in America that we have to spell this out. Again.
  10. Gonna have to call BS on that figure. The top billing stations in NY, LA and Chicago bill 70-90 million dollars a year. Clear Channel had stations in none of these markets carrying Stern. Stern only brought in about 25 million in profits a year for Infinity. Clear Channel only had Stern in one top 20 market, San Diego. I can pretty much guarantee that none of those stations billed more than 20 mil a year, Stern representing maybe 1/3 of that total revenue. A new morning show would have probably maintained most of that revenue as well... so I'm willing to guess that the hit to Clear Channel over the two year period of Stern being on terrestrial radio and not Clear Channel was probably less than 10 million.
  11. Did he though? Getting good players is only half the equation to making a successful baseball team have a following. You also need a good place to play and a good marketing strategy to get fans to become Fans. How did he market the Marlins in 2004? What promotions did they do to make the team more palatable to Miami? Yeah, the team won 2 world series in the last 15 years. Great. But if you never identified with the team to begin with, why would you come back to it? At least the White Sox have a longer history to tie into then the Marlins do. Something tells me if our franchise was 15 years old, we'd have similar problems building a dependable fan base. It wasn't until we got our marketing turned around that things started to change for us...
  12. One of the pictures is a CNN video capture too.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) As for Infinity sitting him.. they are his biggest cash cow. Just for suspending him from those 6 markets last year they lost, by their account, nearly $200 million $'s. His ad supporters are extremely faithful. That speaks louder then his fan base, IMO. I don't know why Infinity lost 200 million dollars, those six markets were Clear Channel owned them. Lots of markets were looking to dump Stern years ago because they are such a tough sell locally and is an incredibly expensive show to get the rights to. In Grand Rapids, for example, the rights to Stern cost 300K a year. The company that ran Stern got good ratings for AM Drive but could not sell the show as well as they wanted because there are lots of local advertisers that will not advertise on Stern because he's Stern. BUT, a lot of the folks that advertise on Stern will advertise on his replacement because they know that people will listen anyway. In order to not violate Stern's contract the company (that I worked for) moved the show to an AM affiliate. The FM morning ratings tanked. Yet within six months, the rock station with a much crappier morning show and fewer listeners was making way more money for the bottom line than Stern was. Revenue was up, cost was down.
  14. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) Stern was on Best Damn Sports Show last night...he was excellent as always. He showed that new portable unit to the audience. Tomorrow should be pretty cool. I hope he causes a hugh scene in Manhatten and traffic shuts down. That would rock. Jackie on today was awesome. That guy was a riot. Love Artie too. My favorite moment....hmmm...that's tough. I enjoyed the day they beat the girl with a fish, for the first time. Every time he comes up with this stuff, I'm stunned. My favorite parts of the day was always the news. And Howard has been a bright spot of my day for 10 years now. Love you Howard...my Sirius is just waiting to listen to you. Since there will probably be a transit strike in the city tomorrow, traffic will probably be shut down already - especially since a lot of cab drivers are planning to not "scab" and drive. Howard Stern is very much an innovator in radio. But I think his time has passed him by. As far as I'm concerned, his show has been stale for five years to be honest and although I think that a couple million people will follow him to Sirius, most won't. There are enough other people doing things similar to what he's done - and MOST people who listen to radio aren't so strongly attached to any personality to follow them to a paid service. XM thought they could do it with Opie and Anthony and that turned out to be a bomb. If I was CBS/Infinity, I would have made Howard Stern sit out his show from the day he announced the switch until next month. It leads me to believe that his show will be back on regular radio - sooner than later.
  15. I don't get why owners expect the city or the people to pony up for a stadium for their use?
  16. http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa...an.bb0e76d.html The juicy bits.
  17. Loria destroyed the Expos, then he destroyed the Marlins. It's like he's the MLB hatchet man.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) That's nice, but I never blamed Bush for the bad intel. How about the guys that fed him the wrong info taking a hike? How about we learn from this and figure out how not to make this mistake again? Not just this administration, but future ones as well. I have a lot of respect for Dubya in several areas. But when guys start taking blame for s*** that happened several layers beneath them, they seem to be placating some element of society. I am not criticizing him for the statement, I don't think it needed to be made by him. I think it needed to be made by the people who actually delivered the wrong information. Apologies and "taking personal responsibility" tends to mean little if things aren't being changed to make sure it doesn't happen again. Some people need to get the s*** can.
  19. Ah President Arthu! I remember his re-election slogan "Arthu, Deethu!" It wasn't until 1977 that anyone ever got it.
  20. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) can't wait to get my hands on a James Buchannan $1 Gold Coin!!! Screw that! I want my Millard Fillmore!
  21. I don't wanna see him go in the offseason. If this is his walk year, he can be an enormous help to us in the first half and we can get a lot for him to fill any holes that we might have come June 20 or so. I'd love to see him stay in the uniform - but if he doesn't want to lock up a long term deal now - I say he's on the block. I want good pitching, but I want that good pitching to say with us for years to come, not just one more year.
  22. Totally ridiculous. This war had less to do with oil than most people think or realize.
