That's hilarious. Really.

The arctic circle marker and shopping mall just north of Rovaniemi Finland. The weirdness and kind of surrealness of it makes me think about it. Christania, Copenhagen, Denmark. Relax Art Garden, Berlin Germany. Asbury Lanes, Asbury Park NJ. Blue Danube, Columbus OH. US Cellular Field, Chicago IL.

QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) I'll keep my opinions to myself on this one, i wouldn't want Rex Kickass to lock the thread, like he did on the Tookie Williams string, which was uncalled for, imo. I did nothing wrong to warrant the locking of that thread, if indeed i was the cause of it, for counting down the time till the plungers were pushed into Williams' arms, which indeed they were, and justly so. Another loser on his way to Hell....... Oh, and I'm gonna respond to this publicly, because I feel everyone has a right to know why I do the things that I do. We've let a lot of stuff go in this forum. To the point where a lot of our users and guests feel uncomfortable entering into what could be some wonderful discussions. As a mod in this forum, I've made the decision to be more aggressive in terms of trying to thin out the pissing matches and make this a place where anyone can feel comfortable. Because I don't want that to happen anymore. I lock threads for a couple reasons. First, if posters are being directly attacked and the conversation is completely derailed, I lock the thread. Second, if people are posting things that I feel to portray this messageboard and website in a less than good light, I'll lock the thread. If you wanna post somewhere every half hour about how its xxx minutes til somebody dies, fine. You're just not gonna do it here. Because its the opinion of myself and other mods and admins that its in poorer taste than the poor taste that we already know and love. K, thanks.

Actually quite the opposite, they're entire worldview in the 60s and 70s were completely opposite. And the situation they faced in 1980 is wholly different than the one they have now.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) I also saw the line about Iran justifying the need for nukes with defense against invasion, and just wanted to point out that the arms race isn't a new objective for Iran. They have been actively pursuing atomic weapons for at least 30 years now. Israel already destroyed one nearly complete nuclear facility, back in the early 80s if memory serves me correctly. Also if memory serves me correctly Iran didn't have any immenent invasion excuse then either. Simply what we have now is Iran being able to fit their propaganda to serve the agenda they have had since at least the middle 70's. Nothing has changed here, Iran has always wanted the ability to blow Israel off of the map, they just have a rational now for posessing that ability. If memory serves me correctly, that was Iraq. Previous to 1979, Iran actually had fairly warm relations with Israel as far as that region is concerned, given the Shah's cozy relationship with the U.S. Iran did become more aggressive in 1979-1980 under the new leadership of the Islamists and threatened and did in fact help provoke the Iran/Iraq war throughout the 1980s.

White Sox introduce 2006 gift cards

Polish? I want me some Churros and Margaritas out of a guy's backpack. -
And we're locking this now. If you want to celebrate lamely, do it in private.

It's a sticky wicket, that's for sure. The way I see it, although its still obviously wrong. But causing harm accidentally is different than killing or causing harm with intent. After all, we control what we control. What we can't is sort of beyond us.

Wow. A countdown to death. Classy. I've never defended this asshat. But anyone jumping for joy over the death of someone is always sad.
-
Sometimes this board amazes me. Now we're looking up to places like China and the Taliban and Saudi Arabia who use public executions as a deterrent? This is what we should aspire to?

The truth is, what he did or didn't do is immaterial as far as I'm concerned. The death penalty is wrong. Put him away for life. Take away his cable tv, deny him communication privileges, fine. (Right to vote is a different issue entirely btw.) But no man has the right to kill another knowingly and in cold blood. It doesn't matter what that person did. It's just not right. To answer what Nuke said earlier, it is absolutely wrong of the Christian/Catholic Church's practice of war against the nonbelievers. If the Church hadn't at some point realized it, they'd still be fighting. There are moral absolutes in life. Killing someone is at the top of no-nos for me. Especially in cold blood. Especially with intent. You can sit there and insult this person for being a horrible human being. For having a stupid nick name. For being a pox on his society and the world at large. But you don't have the right to take his life away. Only one being has that right, and last time I saw you weren't that being.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) I can't wait till 4:20 on Thursday (the time my last final ends). Sure, your *cough* final will be done. Here, you might need this incense.

Happy damn birthday. Dammit.

Jose Paniagua? Ooo, Maybe I'll get him to sign my baseball right next to Tamako Ohka.
-
I don't either to be honest. There are some crimes that should be unforgettable in my opinion. But I can't support knowingly putting someone to death. Just can't.

A nuclear Iran is nothing more than a move to attempt to prevent military action against it from the U.S. I don't believe the Israeli threats by Iran to be any more than bluster aimed at keeping its internal mess from exploding on itself. North Korea has been threatening a sea of fire for decades on Seoul. Yet, none has happened. I wonder why.... Oh yeah, because dictators in power really only have the goal of staying in power. Oh yeah, by the way, anti-semites hate Jews and Arabs equally. Because they are both semites.

Is nothing sacred anymore? That's really neat. And gross. At the same time. Sort of like a John Waters movie.
-
Sorry, I oppose the death penalty. Under any circumstance. That's not the liberal in me. That's the Catholic in me.

Thanks Mr. Ny. Sometimes I think that we forget - as a society - why we're supposed to be better than the people who we're fighting. I think we get caught up in the "any means necessary" mentality and forget that in most ways its more important for us to be right and true to the ideals that we live by. That our way of life is way more important than the information we might be able to squeeze out of some guy in Pakistan.

BEARSSSSSSSSSSSSSS vs Steelers
Rex Kickass replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Bears get 1 more cookie with Green Bay on Christmas but sandwiched with tough games against Atlanta and, of course, Minny. Its gonna be dicey. They win next week against Atlanta they have a good shot at locking up the division cause Pitt goes to Minny next week. I wouldn't call the Pack a cookie either. They've lost a ton, but they haven't really gotten blown out that often this year. Favre has kept his crappy team in games this year and I'd never count them out. But the Bears will probably win. -
Yup, but usally another senator who's GOP, as well as GOP Congressional delegation and a GOP governor.

Actually you can, because the British ruled Pakistan for a very long time. And he's Pakistani so its possible he speaks a third language other than English or Arabic. But you're missing my point. If this story is true, of course its bad. But what would it say about our society? Would it make us the same as the people we're supposed to be better than? Would it just be "exuberance" in trying to defeat the bad guys? Does it make the line to determine who the bad guys are harder to define? See, I'm a firm believer in trying to look at things from different viewpoints. Maybe what I'm asking is to have a conversation about whether torture is acceptable beyond our usual "Bush Bad/We can't just feed them candy" level we've been having. Because I think its a discussion worth having. And because I think there are a bunch of people here who have been hiding behind partisan hackery rather than actually speak truthfully. And I'd like to hear what they have to say.

True but its been competitive. The Republican party is hurt in Michigan for a lack of a deep bench. Even though they have a majority in the house and senate. When it gets beyond the state level, they can't really go anywhere. Last year, Jon-Benet Ramsey's dad ran for the Republican nomination for Congress in Northern Michigan. And the dude that fell in the fire during Survivor was almost the Republican nominee for Senator or Governor. They actually though his 15 seconds of reality tv fame would make him a good candidate. Virginia has been tough for the Dems to get lately too but they seem to have a serious strategy for turning a few of these swing states bluer (Virginia, NJ, Michigan, Ohio to start.)
