QUOTE(Spiff @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) Is he the one who runs around the studio yelling like he hears a voice in his head? Yes.

Wasn't he mentioned in "Through The Wire" by Kanye West?

but you'll never hear them say that.... Actually, they're happy with the dollar in this range - from what little I understand about currency exchanges. If it were too fall too much, it could cause some serious damage to the economy. Both here and world wide. A lot of economists say we're near the tipping point where the Euro becomes the currency of choice for reserves across the globe - mostly because of our massive debt issues.

Then why did it fall after better than expected consumer confidence yesterday?

Happy Birthday and stuff.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) So far I only have one book in the queue and thats: Real Money: Sane Investing in an Insane World by Jim Cramer. Ever watch that guy on CNBC? I think he's gonna pop an artery or have a cardiac every five minutes.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) Wow, even in disgrace the boy scouts have more class than just about any politician. This is not a big surprise. Units pad numbers all the time to stay afloat. Having been involved on a council level, I know that there are lots of ghost scouts around... as to whether or not they're used for grant funding on a regular basis, I have no idea. But I do know that my troop registered kids that were in their mid 20s when I was a scout, and so did most of the other troops in my area.

QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. Real intresting I like all the characters, but it is a little long for me You might love Sweet Tuesday (or is it Thursday) or Cannery Row. Steinbeck was at his best when writing about California.

Sad to say, its most likely a short term gain for the Dollar. Which sucks because it keeps me from a European vacation for quite a while.

So what are you reading and why? Also, what do you like about it? I'm currently reading "Travelling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith" by Anne Lamotte, and "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. I just finished "Beijing Doll" by Chun Sue. It's an interesting story about a teenage punk rock chick in China growing up. Actually, it's not very good but it was a free book.

Cause they're a better band?

By a larger margin no less, the No vote is expected to hang out at the 60% mark there.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 31, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) wino. I'm not sure what you mean by Opera being pre-Firefox unless you simply meant that the first version was released before Firefox. There is no connection between the two besides that. Opera was developed some ten years ago with the goal of being a small and fast browser. Some people swear by it, but it is true that most pages are not tested for Opera. If you use it, you would probably still need to use IE or Firefox to view some unsupported pages. pre-Firefox means it was the "it" alternative web browser choice before Firefox was.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) I'm not surprised at all. They have been projecting this for a while now. I was just surprised that they lost by 10 percentage points. I'm surprised it was that close. The EU is due for a big backlash this week in the first dozen states.

The EU Constitutional Committee was headed by Giscard D'Estaing, former President (a Gaullist). The Constitution really doesn't address a whole heck of a lot. I remember hearing them talk about how it was such a success because they didn't answer any of the "difficult questions" in it.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) Random music question for a song title Carl Everett's walk up with the NBA on NBC song in the background The "NBA on NBC" song is actually "Round Ball Rock" by John Tesh.

Opera is pre-firefox and was definitely an improvement over some of the IE 4 and IE 5 issues that people were having in 02 and 03 when I used it. There was also iCab, an opera like browser for the Mac that I used briefly too. I enjoyed Netscape 7 for a while, but my lappy died a terrible death so now I use my 6 year old iMac with OS 8.6 and a browser so outdated that nothing looks right anymore.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 30, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) What?!? Not even a crumb for the Roy ref...?!? I tell you I am sooooo slumin' when I come on here. Cretins... I caught it. *polite country club laughter*

I think the guy's just in a slump. He'll turn it around, but he needs to get more work than an inning every 10 days to do that.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) I bet Matsui could bunt. If you've watched a Mets game this year, you know the answer is... not really. I don't know if Matsui is really as bad as he is, or if his situation isn't right for him. Not everyone can handle playing in New York... I think the pressure there for big contract players is a lot higher than anywhere else. I don't think that Matsui works in New York - but might in another market. We've seen this before where players come to the Yanks or Mets and can't hack it, but come down to another market and play pretty well.... When I heard all the trade yells on WFAN last night, I thought the same thing... Matsui might play better with the Sox because I think the culture of the team might be better and more relaxed there.

That's a pretty selective memory, but you're right - those were huge concerns for Iraq, and considering that they basically had to lockdown the entire country to have the election go off peacefully, I'd say that was a valid news story. At the same time, when it did go off well, there was nothing but Iraq Elections coverage for days. It's a nice deflection to say, you aren't reporting the good news with a story like this - but its just a deflection. Because in the end, this story became about a government that tried to discredit a magazine for reporting a story that wasn't what the government wanted to hear... even though the magazine was right. What concerns me here isn't the press, it's our government's reaction to what the press does, and how our society acts as a result.

Cause noone covered the Iraqi elections.
