QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Then why would the world be switching to the Euro? It's viewed as a more secure currency, less at risk of default because the Central Bank is not running massive deficits and debts.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) It really says something that people believe that Fox has a hidden agenda. How much more obvious could their bias be? So some dude from Fox admitted the slant and now the conspiracy comes crashing down. Whatever. I can't even stand FNC much anymore, blowhards like OReilly and Hannity really have a tendency to get on my nerves, and I'm fairly conservative. But the idea that they've been trying to mask their bias is a ridiculous idea. They can't get much more obvious. I didn't need a bureau chief to tell me so. Nine times out of ten, the Fox News Channel will deny that there is a bias to their coverage. Although CNN is really becoming just as bad, as much as most people don't want to admit it... the RNC's preferred media outlets are NBC, Fox News and CNN in that order.

The Europeans don't want a Euro this strong. It hurts European economies more.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Obstruction of justice is obstruction of justice. Period. Too many people get wrapped up in "it was just a blow job vs. Watergate - waaaay different". Yes, that part is true, but they both tried to conceal illegal actions as a result of an investigation. It doesn't matter what was going on, they both obstructed justice. Actually, Bill Clinton was acquitted of obstructing justice.

It's cool that they're fair and biased. Just wish they'd admit it more often.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Mercy. You got your tickets? Probably not gonna see her. *sniff* Can't really afford the trip or the tickets.

Except watch the anchors. They lump Opinion into the actual news reporting. Let's be honest here, Fox News is fair and biased. And that's just fine.

Not as big as you think. This is some dude with a Minister job that isn't of the majority party. With upcoming elections, it has more to do with his name than with them actually leaving the Euro. I wasn't convinced of the survivability of the currency three years ago, but I am today. If Italy left the Euro Zone, its economy would collapse.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) What it would have achieved, and the political landmines surrounding it are two different things. And it is those same politics that will keep countries from dropping the dollar as the currency of choice. The second line I totally agree with. It is a unique period of history we are seeing. I disagree, the Euro has a pretty strict set of guidelines and its own Central Bank. In time, the political independence of these states (especially as the newer members become more stable) will be seen as an asset and one state's actions will be less able to shake the currency as a reserve force.

Some morning show played that on the radio, when she starts howling after the second or third taser, listen with your eyes closed and tell me what it sounds like.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Yes! I was thinking Karma Bums--but I knew it was wrong. You're wicked well read. Thanks for the compliment. Steinbeck and Kerouac are a couple of my favorites. Only talk about what you know I guess. You might wanna check out "Subterranean Kerouac" a really good biography by one of his last editors. I have been reading a ton this year.... all for fun. Maybe I should post the whole list.
-
That's "The Dharma Bums" you're thinking of.
-
One of my favorites. You might also enjoy "Lonesome Traveler" by Jack Kerouac. It's a collection of short stories/vignettes of his own travels over the course of the fifties and sixties. Very much not like his speed fueled novels.

I think she could win. She's done a very good job of turning over a lot of the "Hillary Never" voters in NY, and I could see it happening across the country too. She has been a good senator for her people. I'd just rather she stay a good senator. I'd really like to see a Presidential Race not involving a Clinton or a Bush for the first time since 1976. Feingold/Obama 08.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) I could have bought that if the EU would have pushed the consititution through. With the history of Europe, it isn't hard to see them desending into factional fighting between the haves and have nots, which would be way worse than the US debt issues. Economically it could be the right choice, but politically, I am going to say not. But the dirty little secret of the EU Constitution is that it did literally nothing. It just furthered a political integration that wasn't nearly to the level of the economic integration Europe has acheived in the last thirty years. I think that we're seeing a unique model of economic interdependence with political independence, and if I was still into studying that stuff, I might actually find it pretty exciting.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) I never miss "Mad Money" on CNBC. Cramer may act goofy on his show but he knows his s*** I still think that one day soon his head will asplode.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) I just finished East of Eden. It was pretty good, but really long. Plus, I had to do a research paper on it, so I know wayy to much about that book now. I'm not gonna read anything but the newspaper over the summer, I read enough during the school year. Only 4 more days.. I read East of Eden in 1996 one summer. Fell in love with Steinbeck over that book. Funny thing is that I still can't get through Grapes of Wrath.
