  1. Here's the thing that gets me. If this was rehashed... Why did the government only know about the missing 380 tons of explosives last week, according to Scott McClellan, White House spokesman? Why did the Pentagon so much as admit today that they screwed up with this? Why did the Iraqi government bring this up now?
  2. You know, I watched movies made in the late 1960's that alluded to priests and pedophilia. It's not a new issue for the church. The difference is the level of openness and victimization in our society. This actually makes priests LESS able to fall into this trap rather than more able to.
  3. bmags: don't assume. Vote your conscience.
  4. Just so you know, American troops were at Al-Ca-Ca on April 4th. http://www.globalsecurity.org/org/news/200...readiness01.htm At the time, there were no signs of looting.
  5. You're right, provisional ballots are usually only counted if the election is very close.
  6. Call your county election office, it might be backed up. If, in fact, you don't receive your card go to your polling place and show your license. You may be on the Voter rolls. If you aren't yet on the Voter rolls, you should be able to ask for a provisional ballot. If you are still to be processed, your vote will be counted. Don't let them keep you down dude, vote.
  7. So let me get this straight. 380 tons of weaponry is missing. We knew where it was before the invasion. A convoy of approximately 40 big trucks would have to transport the mass out of the arms dump. With all the surveillance of military action over Iraq, are you telling me that the US didn't find it to be a priority to monitor to movements around the largest ammo dump north of Baghdad before the invasion? CBS interviewed the commander of the first unit into the area: Drudge Report first reported that NBC News had something on video that proved NY Times wrong. Here's Jim Micklaszewski's report on MSNBC today. Here's an MSNBC interview earlier today with a producer on the scene when the alleged video was shot.
  8. Actually, wasn't the movie actually made in 1988? That would be Reagan.
  9. Huge Cache of Explosives Vanished from Site in Iraq.
  10. Its a baby step Wong. I'm not concerned with gay marriage right now. I'd just like not to see a permanent ban to the extension of rights that all people should have available to them in the constitution. What's important to me right now? Making it illegal to fire someone for being gay. Just like its illegal to fire someone for being black or dyslexic or crippled.
  11. All I'm saying is the ten dollars you gave me turns into eight after taxes.
  12. But Michigan has a border economy too.... oh wait, wrong border. Never mind.
  13. 8 dollars???? What the f***???
  14. Totally dude. I finally got swayed when John Kerry said he was "reporting for doodie" at the Democratic National Convention. That was so awesome!!!!!!!!
  15. Flash ad about John Kerry
  16. I asked my roommate's mother (at my roommate's request) why she was voting for Bush. She said he was a flip-flopper. I asked her how he flip-flops. She couldn't give me a single answer. Uneducated voters are everywhere. I wish everyone who votes was as educated as you and I Sox4Life, but they just aren't.
  17. Where does life begin? That's a great question. I don't think its one that our society can answer with any good consensus as of yet. Personally, I believe that life begins at conception. But I think that we have to make a line at where that life becomes a human being and not just a mass of cells. I'm not qualified to make that answer. The truth is, abortion should be safe but rare. Let me tell you why. I have a close friend who excitedly called me four months ago about the possibility of having twins with his wife. Turns out, no twins, just a baby whose head would not grow around her brain. There was no way to save this baby after birth, the ten hours she would possibly live after birth would be extremely painful. She would however survive in the womb. However, carrying the baby to term created risks for the mother. After much soul searching, they decided to terminate the pregnancy. It was the last thing they wanted to do, but it was the thing they felt they had to do. Life is life. It's sacred, and we shouldn't give it up but for the most extreme circumstances. Just wars, situations like I just described. The death penalty - not acceptable.
  18. I actually just think he's boring.h
  19. Sox4Life: I think Apu was talking about you.
  20. Sox4Life: Emergency Contraception (aka the Morning After Pill) does not destroy a fertilized egg. It prevents fertilization. If she has already conceived, she will stay pregnant.
  21. I would argue that the Bible isn't so clear on it. What I've read has said that Paul may be referring to the sex slave trade and that the meaning of what he said isn't as clear as people might say. I also know that the Bible is divine writing through the hands of humankind. Therefore, I am willing to accept that every word may not be true. For example, the notion of a trinity was not included in the Bible until the late Fifth Century. But I'm not getting into a biblical argument. I'm not qualified. As to your points about homosexuality: 1. I don't know what causes homosexuality. I just know that it exists. I know that my bisexuality was not something I chose. It's just something that is. As to what caused it is immaterial to me. 2. I'm not a lesbian, I couldn't hope to answer that. 3. I don't quite follow here. If it is a deficiency of some sort, whats the big deal? It is not a (dys)functional deficiency. There is something different about gay people and straight people, yes. They are attracted to different things. They are "wired" differently. So what? 4. On gay marriage: It seems that some people view rights as a zero sum game. It isn't. Not to get on a rant here but if I want to spend the rest of my life with my boyfriend, why shouldn't I be granted the same rights and responsibilities as my friend who got married but to someone of the opposite sex? I'm not getting extra rights, you aren't losing your rights. Most of the rights that gay couples fight for are about survivor rights and visitation rights, rights that brothers or sisters, or immediate family already have. Call it what you will, but I believe any long term committed relationship, sexual or not, between consenting adults should be afforded the same rights as marriage. If that means calling it something different, whatever. With me, its about the rights not the name. The fight was a preemptive one politically by the way. Conservative politicians jumped the gun and fought this in 1996 with DOMA, not because it was seriously on the horizon, but because it distracts from the "gay agenda." That agenda was to guarantee the right of gay people to not be fired for being gay.
  22. What's the internet symbol for showing quiet outrage? Oh yeah, I remember now. ...

  24. There are always other people to vote for besides the major parties. I was not happy with Al Gore in 2000. I didn't vote for Al Gore in 2000. I didn't vote for Bill Clinton in 1996.
