  1. Jas, You make some interesting points here. I don't have time to talk about them all because I gotta get to work in a bit, but let's take a look. The two most vocal people on the Fox News post debate panel the other night was Fred Barnes who was absolutely gushing about Bush and Mort Kondracke who was angry that Kerry dared to mention that a gay activist was gay. That's dirty pool, he said. I can't say that I watch Hannity and Colmes very often. Mostly cause I work late, and I never found the show too terribly interesting or informative. When I have watched it, it seems like Alan Colmes can't get a word in edgewise over Sean Hannity. So, lets leave that alone. I don't have statistics to back up my argument, you don't have statistics to back up yours. I watched CNN mostly after the debate. For the first hour or so, the commentators were talking about how it was a draw. After the snap polls showed a Kerry victory, the commentators talked about how Kerry dominated the debate. I think I remember at least one CNN commentator talking early on about how Bush wiped the floor with Kerry. The problem with debate analysis is that it inherently leans on opinion. Any news network is going to show a slanted view based on the commentators who has it on. FNC had angry white guys yelling about Kerry's dirty pool, MSNBC had a nearly all republican crew, CNN had four people - two who said it was a draw, one who said Bush won and one who said Kerry won. If that's leaning left Jas, you need to review your definition of Fair and Balanced ™. I remember sometime last year a study being released that showed that this President has had more Press Events carried live by news networks than Clinton, Bush 41 or Reagan. The day after the first debate, Bush announced a new policy initiative would be declared at a campaign event - it was a standard stump speech though and all three major cable news networks carried it live for over 45 minutes. When was the last time CNN carried a Kerry stump speech for that long? I think it was when Kerry spoke at the Democratic National Convention. NPR differentiates itself from reporting and analysis. I think shows like Morning Edition and All Things Considered are incredibly balanced. But they don't shy away stating problems that this administration has. I hear stories on NPR, the other "news" networks wouldn't dare to cover. Partially because it doesn't fit the established storyline of the campaign. Pure and simple, most news networks aren't biased in this country, they're just lazy. As for treating Kerry like some kind of God. I don't. The truth is, I don't agree with his health care policy. I don't agree with a lot of the things he says, in fact. But this election is not about John Kerry. This election is about the last four years and the next four years. You can sit there and revel in the minutia of how a Senator voted in which case, etc. You can say Kerry voted for higher taxes 97 times, a number which by the way isn't true. You can also point out that Kerry voted for lower taxes over 200 times. Which is, by the way, true. It's all irrelevant to me. Kerry is my man in this election, but if he f***s with the things I believe in - he's out in 2008. Bush's supporters act like the guy should be put on Mount Rushmore. Like he's never made a mistake and marginalize anyone who disagrees with a president. Hecklers get a chance to heckle at a Kerry campaign stop. Hecklers aren't allowed in at a Bush stop. Hell, even undecided voters aren't wanted. I frame the election this way, and you should too. Timothy Noah said it much better than me so I'll quote him.
  2. Carville is on the payroll as one of the commentators of Crossfire. From the left side. In fact I believe his normal CNN introduction is "Crossfire! From the left, James Carville." Yeah, that's saying he's impartial. Pat Buchanan was on the CNN payroll as one of the commentators of Crossfire. FNC does claim Brit Hume to be impartial as an anchor, but on the weekend he clearly isn't. Let's look at other commentators on the "liberal" media. MSNBC had Conservative Shock Jock Michael Savage until he told a gay caller to go die from AIDS. They also had the low rated "Alan Keyes is Making Sense." Pat Buchanan is now a regular contributor and often fills in for Joe Scarborough on Scarborough Country. Joe, by the way is a former Republican congressman. Pat Buchanan is anchoring debate coverage for MSNBC by the way. On another point. I don't suffer from Bush "hatred." The reasons I don't support Bush is because he has established a track record which I don't believe is appropriate for our country.
  3. CNN Kerry 52, Bush 39 CBS Kerry 39, Bush 25 ABC Kerry by one point. CNN Focus group of unidentified voters. 10 Kerry, 7 Bush, 10 or so still on the fence.
  4. Kerry. I volunteered for the campaign today. I've liked Kerry since January of 2003.
  5. Nader is out for Nader. Exactly what does he stand for? If its because he was a green party person, vote for Cobb.
  6. Where did the lock box go?
  7. At least pick the right independent then.
  8. My Republican apologist father agrees that Bush looks like he's foaming at the mouth.
  9. If Bush was actually wired at the debates, someone would tell him to wipe the spittle off the corner of his damn mouth. He looks like he's foaming!
  10. I think whats most important is how disturbing my signature recently became. Is that Mary-Kate Olsen with the President's face? I don't know.
  11. I think the truth is, image always matters in the world. No state can acheive everything on their own. Cooperation is easier to get if your allies actually like you.
  12. Steff, there's a definite symbolism that can be found by putting the remains at Fresh Kills.
  13. Im just pissed off they're in a landfill instead of creating something real.
  14. Fox News is centered like I am without my meds dude. I mean, honestly, every time I watch HANNITYand Colmes it seems like I gotta wait five minutes to hear Colmes open his mealymouthed trap. In 2000, the guy that made the call on states in the Presidential Election was George Bush's first cousin. If John Kerry's second cousin's sister in law twice removed was working for CNN in any capacity, you'd hear about it all over talk radio and Fox News. CNN has Carville and Begala on the payroll, but they also had Buchanan on the payroll in the 80s when he still worked very closely with the Reagan administration. MSNBC has Joe Scarborough. He's a freaking former Republican Congressman. CNBC has Dennis Miller who is an avowed Republican. Fox News has Brit Hume, who acts as an anchor during the week and spits out right wing editorials on the weekend on the same channel. Everyone's got an angle. Oh, and for your information the ABC News memo said that on some issues the level of accountability is not the same for each candidate. How is the level of accountability the same for a Senator who voted on two different bills over four years on Iraq the same as the President who presided over the whole war?
  15. Brian, Carl's Jr took over Hardee's in the 1980s. The menu at Hardee's is closer to what Carl's Jr was than Carl's Jr is to what Hardee's was. Then there are White Castles in the south called Krystal. I think the creepiest part of the BK commercial is when the king touches the dude's knee at the end.
  16. This one time I woke up in Prague not remembering how I got there or who the other dude in the room was.
  17. I think you're missing the point. These people were promised something by the city. If the city said - we can't afford to do this, or its just not possible - I don't think the outrage would be there. But the promises were made and not realized. They weren't just not realized either. Picture this, the government promises to give you some form of your loved one's remains and then says "I'm sorry, it's too expensive, we're just gonna throw it on the old city dump instead." How would you feel? They could have placed this just about anywhere but a landfill and this outrage wouldn't have happened. Instead, people wanting to visit the final resting place of whatever human remains were left of these people have to climb a stinky diaper mountain. Its f***ing ridiculous.
  18. http://washingtontimes.com/national/200410...13555-7276r.htm This is a slap in the face to every person who died on September 11.
  19. I don't need no clique to tell me that I rock.
  20. The problem is that will probably never happen NUKE. They wanna do proportional college voting in Colorado and opponents are saying that will never happen. Doing things by congressional districting would be bad as well because of the way districts are remapped. You'd have a battle in every state to switch Congressional districts every four years and end up with situations like Texas. Originally, Senators weren't directly elected either. Would you like to go back to that?
  21. The exemption for US citizens living outside the US is to make sure that they don't pay more than their fair share of taxes. Given that in most states, the tax rate is much higher than the US, they're paying a much higher rate in the first place.
  22. What the bleeding heart would do to change the government. The whole laundry list. I'm too big for three things. 1. End the drug war. Fight the terror war instead. 2. Impeach Tom DeLay for multiple ethics violations. Hold our elected officials to a higher standard. 3. Hold someone in the government accountable for recent intelligence failures in the MidEast. Improve our intelligence and develop an arm that can do the dirty work in Farsi, arabic, etc. 4. Hold Iran and North Korea accountable and actively seek to resolve these issues, through diplomatic, economic or military means in whichever means is necessary. 5. Fund the Department of Homeland Security properly. Make sure that every cargo container finds inspection before being unloaded quickly and effectively. Make sure that cargo on planes are expected. Start worrying about bombs and stop worrying about nailclippers. Ban lighters on planes instead so nobody can light anymore shoe bombs. 6. Eliminate the Electoral College. Citizens should vote for the president, citizens shouldn't vote for other citizens to vote for the president. 7. Engineer further tax cuts from the bottom up rather then the top down. The average US soldier pays at the 15% tax bracket rate. The average millionaire earning his money through dividends rather than hard work pays at the same tax bracket rate. Something about that doesn't seem right to me. 8. Give our military a 30% raise and make their salaries TAX FREE. Supply them with up to date body armor and make sure that soldier's moms never have to organize fundraising drives to send their adopted company up to date body armor during wartime. 9. Allow for embryonic stem cell research in a fashion which is both ethical and beneficial to science. 10. End our dependence on foreign oil within 20 years. Do it by pioneering newer cleaner technologies not by drilling in ANWR. 11. Expand Americorps and create a draft similar to Germany, where military service is not compulsory but some sort of national civic service is. 12. End loopholes for corporate multinationals. End the loophole to allow US based multinationals to do business with embargoed countries via foreign based subsidiaries. 13. Create a culture that respects life. End the death penalty. Work to make abortion procedures rare but legal in the first trimester and extremely rare beyond. 14. End the No Child Left Behind act. 15. Properly fund the VA, Amtrak and start an initiative to renew a national infrastructure that has been aging. 16. Make sure that the Constitution is respected for everyone.
