  1. To their credit, they did. But still, what the hell else got in that we didn't hear about?
  2. I once won five dollars in the lottery - then my ego got inflated and I lost it all. Now, I just live in my lower middle class apartment and wonder, what could have been. Financial security was *gasp* so close. Oh, the humanity.
  3. Congress accidentally gives itself permission to view your tax returns.
  4. More than fair. The Republicans have controlled the house of Representatives, the body which does the heavy lifting on budget expenditure since Jan 1995. In 2000, we had a Social Security surplus which we now borrow from to fund discretionary spending that was not curtailed after a tax rebate and cut and further cut.
  5. Personally, I think its a shame. But its no justification for going to war. I hope the people are held responsible and brought to justice.
  6. The problem is that Social Security was never going to go broke in the first place. The expenditures for Social Security may, eventually, exceed the amount collected in the payroll tax but it doesn't mean that the government will run out of money to spend on Social Security. When the government makes its own money, its hard to actually ever literally run out of it. Personally, I think if our government ever got responsible about discretionary spending, we'd have plenty of money to fund Social Security. But the party in power has increased it at a rate faster over the last ten years then the ten years before it.

    Bowling

Congrats dude on the 300. I hit 210 once. And if i could get my spares more than 30% of the time, I'd be a 170 bowler.
  8. Savage Love is at http://www.theonionavclub.com too. Santorum is now also not just a senator but also the new voguish term for the frothy mixture between poop and lube.
  9. His real house is in a suburb of D.C. He's a senator who doesn't really live in his home state anymore.
  10. From Drudgereport http://www.drudgereport.com/flash7.htm
  11. I think I'm gonna let our military do its own investigation. They're better qualified to make a judgment than me. It's unsettling to be sure, but then again - what about war isn't?
  12. Another politician who claims to be a "conservative," but games the system and doesn't exercise the personal responsibility he expects the rest of the country to follow themselves. Wonderful. In the interest of full disclosure, I loathe Rick Santorum. This was a politician who last year compared homosexual activity as being on the same level as bestiality. I felt, oh, just a little insulted.
  13. Druggists refuse to give out pills.
  14. I wonder how they'd treat it if there was just one straight dude on the Real World. It's nice that they have gay characters on the show and all - but seriously - so f***ing what? And can't they get a normal one on there? Maybe one who doesn't leave carbon marks on the ceiling, or isn't stuffed so far in the closet - he spends the whole time talking about not wanting to come out.
  15. Don't celebrate yet. On the short list? Alberto Gonzalez, the man who said the Geneva Convention was quaint and outdated.
  16. Lamest show on TV in 2004: Blow Out on Bravo. Reality series about a hair salon in Beverly Hills. Yet I watched every episode. God, I'm lame.
  17. There has also, oddly enough, been widespread protest from Shiite Muslim parties as well over the offensive. Politically, the situation in Iraq is tenuous at best for the Interim Government. The elections are scheduled 10 days after Martial law expires and some of the more major parties look to be sitting this election out. That's a little scary.
  18. I think Muhammad Ali said it best about me. Hung like a butterfly, stings when I pee.
  19. Yes, but the resignation isn't announced until it's accepted. In the resignation letter, John Ashcroft all but declared the war on terror won, by the way.
  20. Is it bothering anyone else that the debate between Dems and Repubs here is turning into who's stupider than whom lately?
  21. I don't think Afghanistan was really a factor. I think the disintegration of the Communist foundation in the USSR began sometime in the mid 1960's. With the rise of Maoist thought and a turn away from the intellectual base that defined much of the communist movement in its past. I also think that the influence on its border satellite states of Western media did much to hurt the health of the bloc, in particular the DDR. A lot of people said it wasn't a lack of freedom that killed the DDR as much as the lack of bananas. This lack of an intellectual ideological base coupled with a generation of living beyond the state's means on an economy defined by currency it didn't have led to its demise.
  22. Not really close at all. Reagan was able to bankrupt the USSR by increasing the arms race while growing an existing detente.
  23. Actually, I don't think Michael Moore is even a registered Democrat.
  24. He raises some interesting questions from time to time.
