  5. Interesting... Baseball Prospectus says this about his time with Pinar del Rio: "He was considered at least an average defender at both shortstop and in the outfield, and his bat was thought to be good enough to play at either position. Though regularly a shortstop for Pinar del Rio, he spent a significant amount of time in the outfield as well, and played center for the Cuban entry in the WBC." http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=8152
  6. QUOTE (4 points @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 01:14 AM) Are you mentaly challenged? You call the Ramirez deal a salary dump no brainer, and in the same breath, laud the Swisher deal, which in fact, was a salary dump. IMHO, the best trade in Chicago baseball over the last 30 years, was the Sandberg deal, which was no effin salary dump. But, because it`s the Cubs, I wait in anticipation of another 2 year old response. Whoa, I actually I haven't said anything about the Swisher deal. By the way, I'm not one to usually call people out on spelling mistakes, but come on: 'mentaly challenged' The irony is way too rich there genius.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the deal. Getting Aramis Ramirez, Kenny Lofton and CASH for Jose Hernandez, Matt Bruback (never made it to the majors) and Bobby Hill is just ridiculous value. You make it sound like any team with some money to spend could have made that deal, well of the teams with the necessary resources the Cubs pulled it off. Sure it's ridiculous value, but it was still a no brainer. Ramirez was a guy who already had hit .300 with 30 homers at 23 years old. What GM wouldn't have made that trade if they had the same resources Hendry works with? Was there another team even competing for Ramirez.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Um, as much as I hate it, the Aramis/Lofton trade for crap was the best trade in last 10 years. Aramis is going to end up with HOF numbers if he plays another 8 seasons or so. I don't know... salary dumps are pretty easy deals to make when you're one of the few contending teams with salary space and a team like the Pirates is desperate. That deal was a no brainer.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) I could see someone like J.D. Drew being 100% clean, as he has a strong religious background that frowns upon taking drugs. LOL - I don't frown against using drugs... I just hate cheating.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) the truth is that nobody is 100% clean i dont think..maybe tony gwynn and ripken were...but you never know I disagree. If I had gotten that far I wouldn't have used them... I'm sure there are a lot of players who feel the same way.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Because he's the best pure hitter I've seen in my lifetime...but like you said, he does look like a PED user and there's been tons of speculation about him being on PEDs. I'd take Frank over him, though they're obviously really really close... but at first glance I'd say the numbers actually favor Frank and since I watched almost all of his first 5,000 at bats or so I'd have to say I'm a little biased. In my perfect world Pujols is exposed and Thomas stands alone... lol. Fingers crossed a positive Thomas test isn't out there somewhere.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) Sadly, I'd be shocked if he wasn't/isn't. I'm with you, he's the non-Sox player I'd most like to see clean. Just out of curiosity... why do you want him to be clean? He's always looked like a big mass of steroids to me... What's worse is his first 5-6 seasons have made Frank's first 5-6 seasons look a little less remarkable. I want him to go down!
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Abreu to the Sox makes a lot of sense but I'm guessing the Sox want that to stay as quiet as possible because you don't want other teams to know we are more forced to deal Dye (not that we are truly forced). I would be so thrilled if we could get an A prospect for Dye and than replace Dye with Abreu. The obvious question would be "why would a team trade for Dye when they could keep their prospects and sign Abreu?"
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) LOL... Thanks for weighing in Tweezer. Yes. You are Cabrera's #1 fan, aren't you? I'm not going to sleep until the clock strikes midnight Sunday night.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) If he accepts arbitration and is on the team, he will start. Over my dead body.
  16. If you want to talk BP in relation to the Cuban league, you might also want to point out that Silver's PECOTA projection for Alexei's 2008 season with the Sox is: .295/.340/.451 with 13 HRs
  17. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) Sure, he COULD be dealt. But from what I've seen so far, I'd rather stick Fields in LF or RF and keep his bat in the lineup if they re-sign Crede. While Fields isn't some untouchable super-stud or anything, it's going to take a pretty good player - or a VERY nice package of prospects - to get KW to trade away a cheap, young player with Fields' skill set. Yep... a really good pitcher to add to the rotation to try to make a playoff run. Not saying it's going to happen, but IF the Sox are in it AND Crede is playing well...
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) I did say Carl Everett...and he can do everything, so it counts. My bad.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Carl Everett? LOL - I did say pitcher... Freddy?
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) First of all, there is nobody eating crow on anything, its 7 games in. Also we are all sox fans, nobody wants him to fail. And that deal would be not only not accepted by sf but it would be moronic for the sox to shop their best young hitter and future 3b and depth at of, and try to sign a player who will be overpriced and will suck payroll flexibility for the sox in the offseason. and I have no idea who you are, so you must be a junior member of his crew. Either way, sometimes it better to read in the background rather than post something like that. Actually, if the Sox are in contention in June, and Crede is playing well... I would absolutely be open to dealing Fields (and I'm positive KW would too - I mean, that's what he does). He is easily their best trading chip and might be able to get them a real playoff-caliber pitcher.
  21. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) He's AZ. I don't know about any of this Uribe stuff. It's just what he told me. Cowley was on the score about an hour ago. He spoke to Uribe tonight and Uribe told him he's headed to Phoenix with the team tomorrow... so if he's been cut, I guess he's going to start stalking them. Uribe told Cowley that neither KW or Ozzie said anything to him today about waivers.
  22. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) I hope this bullpen comes around even though it's real early in ST. They should be out there shutting the opponents down so they can show last year was not the way they really perform. I am pulling for Brian Anderson to make it also. The guy has the talent 7-6 Sox. Cole Armstrong with a 2-0ut 3B and Bourgeois with a 2B off an OFs glove.
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) MLB has it list as 4 ER right now. I did not see it myself. They've got it wrong. I'm listening to the game.
  24. QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Konerko with a 2-Run 2B. Tied at 6 The homer Wasserman gave up was to Augie Ojeda.
