  1. I'd like to see Quentin back at 3. Pods Beckham Quentin Thome Dye Konerko Ramirez Pierzynski Getz Tomorrow. I call.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Encouraging news, Sounds like he’s right on schedule. I wonder if Coop will teach him the cutter (Green?) You know what's funny? One of the scouting reports I read says that's one of his best pitches. Sounds like he fits right in!
  3. 0-2 at the dish. Would have been cooler if he went 2-2 with a double or something.
  4. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) Beckham is a natural 3 hitter,I envision him hitting .300 plus avg and 20 plus homers,a righthanded Joe Mauer if you will. Carlos Quentin 2008 is a 3 hitter. Beckham is a 2. IMHO.
  5. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) I think they said it best on Mully and Hanley this morning....BA and Wise are not players who should be on a "good" teams MLB roster... hench why BA was sent to Pawtucket.... That's it right there.
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) That pretty much says it all. You could even change Option B to "good defender" and the choice would still be a no-brainer. There's no question in my mind that Ozzie has a personal vendetta against Anderson. If Ozzie had a personal vendetta against Brian Anderson he would have been gone three years ago when he still had any value at all. The entire league knew he was available this week!! Nobody cared!! The best offer they got was a DFAd Mark Kotsay. Everyone needs to breathe deeply and repeat "Brian Anderson is not as good as we thought he was." "Brian Anderson is not as good as we thought he was." "Brian Anderson is not as good as we thought he was."
  7. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Anderson was hitting .230 wasn't he? Not good at all, but compared to Wise it looks pretty good. Anderson is also a better defensive outfielder. I think Anderson would have been a more valuable player to this team. Wise should have been cut and Anderson should have remained to be the defensive sub...why send a guy down to AAA hitting .230 when you have a guy playing the exact same position hitting .186? And spare me the 'lefty right' thing...Wise can't hit anything so what side of the plate he stands on means nothing. Levels of suckitude. The difference in having Anderson vs Wise on the roster is severely negligible. Anderson + Fields vs Wise + Kotsay? Who knows? But at least Anderson can finally be free of his White Sox shackles and can now unleash his baseball fury on the AL East. It also gets him the hell out of the way for the next round of prospects.
  8. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) Obviously it was total BS getting rid of Anderson, and they're whole excuse for sending him down was that he had the option and they could keep both players if they kept Wise up, even though they subsequently traded Anderson shortly after. Anderson is bad and Wise is bad. They're both bad. It's like flipping a coin and getting pissed about it landing 'tails' instead of 'heads'. Maybe the difference is one knows he's bad and the other still thinks he's good. Good luck with that in Pawtucket.
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) i dont think race has anything to do with it...but i'm fairly certain that nobody will deny that ozzie certainly, and often times wrongly, plays favorites....wise, andy gonzalez, erstad, lillibridge...all guys that stuck around way longer than they should have seemingly because they are/were on ozzies good side I believe that he plays who he THINKS will give him a better chance to win the game at hand and the season for the long run. A lot of times fans don't agree with his decisions so to bridge the gap they jump to the conclusion that he's "playing favorites". Andy Gonzalez? The roster was devastated that season. Was he blocking someone? He was just a body taking up space because there was nobody else to use, right? In 2006 I thought the Sox would have won the division if Anderson had played every day in CF instead of Mackowiack. That's because their offense was good enough to hide him. I don't buy into the personality conspiracy crap though. Ozzie wants to win as much as any of us and has been around baseball long enough to know not to let that kind of crap get in his way.
  10. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Now Hef. Sure he’s not doing anything to get on base. But he’s probably hitting the ball hard every now and again right? No, dummy. Weren’t you listening? This guy has almost no value with his bat. His slugging percentage is an impressive .313 which puts him behind such sluggers as David Eckstein (.322), Willy Tavaras (.335), and Yuniesky Betancourt (.344). He has 11 doubles, 1 triple, and three home runs (along with his 14 singles for a grand total of 29 hits all season). But at least he’s stealing bases, right Hef? Right? Totally. Of the 23 times he’s sat on first base this season (not counting fielder’s choice outs–14 singles, 8 walks and a HBP), he’s swiped 4 bags. But he’s also been caught twice for a SB rate of .667 which is below the magic number of 75% which is supposedly the break even point. So…he’s costing the team runs in the few times he’s actually getting on base. Which is bad. I think. Ozzie and Walker ruined him with their racist inability to develop young talent!
  11. Most prospects don't pan out. Chris Young and Ryan Sweeney haven't lit the world on fire either. You can't blame Ozzie and Walker for them. Josh Fields and Brian Anderson just aren't good enough.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=5812 Ask and you shall receive. I don't think that article says they're promoting him. It was a great piece though, thanks for posting it.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) I will never slam on Dewayne Wise again. According to Baseball Almanac this would be the 18th perfect game in history.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) Turn to ESPN ASAP. It was a great catch under normal circumstances. Add in it literally saved a perfect game AND no-hitter, and it's one of the best catches I've ever seen. Well if I had a TV available right now I would have seen the catch! I'm at work. Thanks though!
  15. LOL! I haven't seen the catch yet - but this thread had to be made!
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) There's the very legit argument stating that pitchers are actually more fragile now because their arms get weaker and not as conditioned because they are babied through the minors and their first couple years in the bigs. Hell, now the vast majority of pitchers get babied no matter how proven they are. In high school and college, pitchers throw a ton, and I personally believe that builds up arm strength. Unless you have very poor mechanics that are conducive to arm injuries, a well trained and conditioned pitchers arm should have no problem throwing 130 pitches every 5th or 6th day. But once you start limiting them to only 70 pitches per outing their first year in rookie ball, and so on, I believe thats when you lose arm strength. Even if that argument were true, then by your own logic Richard's arm has been babied and is now fragile and weak. It definitely wouldn't make sense to leave him out there for 120+ pitches now. Like I said earlier - the Sox have been very good at keeping their pitchers healty during the Ozzie/Cooper/Williams regime. They seem to know what they're doing. McDowell's just being a tool.
  17. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Another argument to McDowells comment was Cliff Lee for the Indians last night...entered the 9th at or over 100 pitches and they let him finish the game, which he did in 12 pitches. Ozzie needs to 'manage' and not just 'follow the protocols' ... really, HOW HARD is it to manage when every situation has a stock response on how to react? Leading by 3 or less, entering 9th, insert closer. I'd rather for him to send Jenks out sometimes and other games let the SP stay in, and no rule exists that says you can't use Thornton to close out a game (esp if you have strong lefties coming up). If Ozzie were to do a variety of things that would tell me he's actually trying to manage and using his instincts (which Ozzie does have great instincts) instead of just going by the standard issue response to baseball play 101. Baseball is a great game because the nuances of the game...when every situation has a standard response, those nuances are neutered and rendered sterile. We can debate the decision to put Jenks in last night, but McDowells commentary is very valid. 100 pitches is different than 115 pitches. It's also Lee vs Richard and the fact that the Indians don't have a bullpen option that doesn't suck. Richard has thrown over 100 pitches three times all year. In his last 5 starts he threw 65, 81, 85, 80 and 46. I'm a little surprised that he even came out for the 8th. He made a decision and it didn't work out - I think it's weak for McDowell to take that and try to make it into a bigger thing about Ozzie hiding behind Jenks.
  18. Under Ozzie and Cooper - the Sox have had an amazing run of healthy pitchers. They've also rarely allowed their starters to go much past 115-120. McDowell can say what he wants in his blog about the science of pitch counts - but when it's your ass that's responsible for winning games AND keeping guys healthy to win more games, then you're going to keep doing what you've been doing.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Any info on Justin Jones? Probably another soft tossing lefty... Our 4th round pick looks bad in that scouting video. Not much velocity at all. Justin Jones is commited to University of California. He had great high school numbers the last two years: 0.41 ERA in 70 innings with 124 Ks as a Junior and 0.42 ERA in 66 innings with 118 Ks as a Senior. http://www.modbee.com/sports/story/734017.html
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Apparently our 4th round pick is committed to UCR, who has a decent program, but nothing special out in the Big West. Had a 2.06 ERA in 74 innings of work with 72K's. No clue on what his stuff is. On second note, here's what I found: I'm wondering if he is a guy that was hurt in 09? I read somewhere he's 6'5" but already lost the link. Here are his numbers from 2009: http://www.maxpreps.com/california/basebal...yer&group=2 3.14 ERA in 58 IP with 56 K and 14 BB
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) They must have skipped college I'm just so tired of watching guys do that kind of thing. Sometimes they look like they didn't watch or play the game growing up - which I guess is probably true for some of them... but damn running into the SS on a groundball? That's my old man rant for the day.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) He has a sac fly which does not affect his batting average but drops his OBP. That's what happens when you can't draw a single walk. LOL - at least it was a productive out.
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Nice. Dweezy tracker! .290/.281/.484/.765, 0 BB/7 K I'm not a Wise fan or anything, but how is his OBP lower than his BA?
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) don't get me wrong, I don't think Richard is bad at all, I think he can be an effective SP in the league, I'm just not ready to rag on MBs contract just yet I wasn't commenting on the Buehrle thing, I was just posting the Gameday link. The quote was accidental. My bad.
