  1. Jose didn't sign a one yr deal, KW picked up a team option on him. At the time it seemed like alot for a team crying poor so loudly esp. when we still had lots of holes to patch, given a reasonable budget for our market I doubt you'd have heard nary a word about. I think there's no doubt that Jose would get a raise on the open market, he would've last yr thus the reason for picking up his option. The wild card in this is has trading for Carl cost us Jose next yr, I feel fairly confident that Jose would take a 2 yr $10 mil deal from us. The question is would Jose be willing to take it at $3 mil and $7 mil to help offset the cost of Carl. Cabrera won't sniff anywhere near $8 mil nor will Nomar at $14 mil.
  2. The Los Angeles Daily News says that reliever Guillermo Mota is likely to be traded by the Dodgers before the deadline. GM Paul DePodesta acknowledged that several teams have made feelers for the pitcher who has the stuff to be a closer and is very affordable at $1.475 million despite having third-year arbitration rights after the season. This is from July 15th.
  3. Robbie would've been better than Carl and we could've gotten him for a hell of alot less.
  4. i Will the Sox still look for another bat? Why not, they sure didn't get one today. They did however waste trade material and salary space for next yr.
  5. This ain't some rookie we're waiting on to catch up to the league, this is a vet and either he's swinging a good bat or he's not. Carl is not. He probably won't get any more than 127 AB's with us IF he can stay healthy. Again, can he catch? Paying(AGAIN) for last yrs production is not what I call a smart move.
  6. Absolutely pitiful trade, power? What power? He has 1 HR in his last 120 AB's. Get on base? Not this yr. And in no way shape or form are we getting the Everett of last yr. On top of all that we still owe him $4 mil for next season and he's having as bad a July as the White Sox O. Can he catch or pitch? Otherwise what a waste of trade material.
  7. I agree, and it's not like the O with that whopping 2 runs did him any favors.
  8. Pretty damm close to, Harden got 7-8 calls at the top of the letters, many for 0-1.
  9. Gar had little chance with that zone, nothing low, shoulder high, and nothing on the black. He actually did pretty good considering but with Harden having a big advantage(plus we sure did help him out too) it was just a matter of time.
  10. Funny you should mention Mansgayb**** as they just sent him to the DL.
  11. .261.......so he's hitting better than Timo.
  12. 7 of the first 9 batters made outs on the first or second pitch, that's 13 pitches for 7 outs against a guy who had walked 6 in his last start and btw, both GIDP's came on the 3rd pitch and after finally getting to him in the 7th, only being down 2 runs, and him working on the longest start of his career, they let him off the hook with a 9 pitch 8th inning. That's a terrible approach to have on the road but in Oakland to boot............simply awful.
  13. Notihng at all really, it'll still be a sad day when RJ's traded there. Then again, will RJ going to NY hurt attendance at the Cell? Most probably, is this really a problem? not if you're the Yankees.
  14. she will be the best prospect we have if it goes down or she will be the best prospect we have if she goes down rolleyeyes.gif rolleyeyes.gif
  15. Are you saying last yr was all Robbies' fault?
  16. Well if we make it to the off-season we won't have to worry about facing Oakland.
  17. The part where it costs us nothing to get him and if he doesn't rebound or Frank comes back early we can easily cut him.
  18. That's a sad thing to hear, like someone died in the family.
  19. The newspaper cites a source who "speaks often" with Johnson as saying the left-handed pitcher's comments about willing to consider a trade to a legitimate potential World Series as meaning the Yankees as the only team he would consider. I've been thinking about this comment and I'm quite surprised at it since RJ should know first hand that the Yankmees don't always win it, and if he's not sure he can give another #1 pitcher Mike Mussina a call who also went to the Yankmees to "Win it all" and is now on his 4th yr of having not done so. Well, if he stays put and the Sox are in the series, I'm sure a popular sign around the park is going to be "Hey Unit, who's not legit now?" or "Theorize This!!"
  20. How does picking up Olerud to fill in for the injured Frank turn us into the '97 Marlins(and I'm assuming you're not talking about us being WS Champs)?
  21. Likewise, I'm not sure how much fraternization that goes on, but I'd have to guess that since we share ST facilities that the Unit knows the Sox more than any team outside of the NL West. Again that could be good or bad but if he hasn't ruled us out, I'd have to consider that to be very good.
  22. One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is that there may not be another team out there that know our minor leaguers first hand like the D-Backs do as they share our ST and minor league facilities with us. I'm not sure if that's good or bad but if they've contacted us I'd have to say it's good.
