You won't get paid anything if you're hurt, his rep is already solidified this season won't help or hurt him there, what he needs now are good power #'s and to stay healthy. He's admitted as much himself.
-
Actually, my impression is that he's going to try to stay healthy(ie no SB's, little D) and hit HR's. Little else. I'm not sure that the kind of Maggs I want on my team.
-
I think people have suspected things, I think it just all coming together in full light now. I'm not so sure Frank wouldn't mind playing in LA at all at this point. That is near his new home.
-
Would you still do a Kong for Perez trade too? That would give us a rotation of: Buehrle Loaiza Garcia Perez Garland And a bullpen of: Koch Marte Soriano Takatsu Wunsch Schoney Politte Wright Obviously one or two of the guys in the BP would need to be traded, how about Wright, Ginter, and Joe B. for Carlos Pena?
-
If we had to throw in an Arnie Munoz would you still do this deal?
-
So option have NOTHING to do with the 25 man roster, glad to hear it. Like I said at the beginning, I could be wrong. Obviously you're not.
-
You missed my point Rex, the option period is one yr in length. I believe that yr starts/ends at the beginning of each season(when the 25 man roster is submitted). Of course you have to be removed from the 25 man roster for an option to be used(That I am positive about) so I guess you would have to be on the 25 man at some point and thus on the 40 man.
-
I'm not sure that's true Rex, I believe the option period start/stop date is when 25 man rosters are made to begin the season so a Sept callup in '02 is covered in that period til the end of ST in '03. I could be wrong though.
-
Yes it is, of course that doesn't mean KW wasn't killing two birds with one stone so to speak.
-
Not exactly, if he didn't make the team out of ST then no option would be used. If he made the team and then was sent down later in the yr that's when he'd have to clear waivers.
-
Right! Or say the insurance settlement on Frank in '01(which they probably didn't get til '02) there's another $8 mil in the kitty. And the $9 mil they get from the TNT TV deal starting last yr? They didn't increase payroll that much last yr, in fact according to Rex they cut it by $6 mil.
-
I thought the part about not paying a dividend was hillarious, that means absolutely nothing. Microsoft didn't pay a dividend until a couple of yrs ago either but had/has literally billions of $$$ in reserves. For all we know the Sox could have $50-60 mil in reserve and will continue building it up but won't pay it in a dividend til just before they sell.

If LA signs Maddux will Evans rekindle...
upnorthsox replied to RudyLawRules's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Link??? Quote???? We've been thru this before and there's no such thing. All he has said was that he'd prefer to play near home. That ain't going to happen unless the Dodgers sign and keep him. -

Of course there's always the chance of a sign and trade(If Maddux is willing to do it) with the Dodgers getting Kong and the Sox getting Maddux. Maddux of course would have to be willing to waive his no trade rights but trading Kong does clear the salary room for Maddux, the Dodgers get their hitter for basically nothing(I'd like for them to throw in a prospect but that's not a deal breaker), the only ???? is what does Maddux get? More guaranteed money than the Scrubs were offering? -
All true Past but I'd still like another starter and the only one to ask is KW.
-
Well if age is a consideration then I have more issues with it than before. What is this age limit because I have others I can think of too like Schmidt and Millwood for Atlanta, Morris for St Louis, Garcia for Seattle, Ortiz for San Fran, Washburn for Anaheim, Lowe for Boston.................
-
As opposed to the sedate gathering it turned out to be?
-
Not sure how you can give the Sox credit for Wells and not give the Yanks credit for Pettite, or the Scrubs credit for Maddux, or the Dodgers credit for Pedro, or the Expos credit for Unit and Vasquez, or the Tribe credit for Colon and Sabathia, and.....and......, and how the hell does Hudson get left off the A's, and didn't Penny pitch in the bigs with the D-backs, and.............as you can see I have lots of issues with that list.
-
IMO this is Jon's make or break yr for his Sox major league chances, if he doesn't get the 5th spot or excel on callup for Schoney's spot then his next chance for the bigs will come with another team.
-
Thanks JimH, I'm glad to hear he handled it well.
-
I have no problem at all with Sox fans expressing their feelings, that it had to be expressed to KW instead of JR maybe unfortunate but then that's why he makes the big bucks. Rex, the question isn't whether KW has more insider info than us. That's obvious. The question is how was he answering questions, was it a condesending "you don't know s***" response or an informative "here's how it works". If it was the former then that's F'n bulls***. I wasn't there so I can't say which it was.
-
Well if you don't like Jay Bell then there's always Ron Coomer!! Remember, we're not talking starters here we're talking bench players.
-
On the brightside though, those RF stands would get all that warm sunlight for April/May/sept games. There's always tradeoffs.
-
But with the OF opened to the cityscape the 3rd base side stands would be blocking the setting sun to the west(just like the 1st base side does now) plus the homeplate and 1st base sides would be blocking the south which is the predominant solar position in the summer.
-
We still need a backup 3rd/1st utility guy, my preference of the guys available is Jay Bell.
