  1. Wish we had some of that same attitude with the Cubs, been then It's All Our Fault.
  2. It looks to me like it'll be about $180 mil, still alot though: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/salaries?team=nyy Btw, ESPN's salary page is notoriously overestimated.
  3. I don't see how that's possible, they haven't added $70 mil in player salaries(including ARod) this winter and you have to subtract Soriano, Weaver, Pettite, and Clemens' salaries. Something just doesn't add up here.
  4. Even back in 1901 Milwaukee sucked: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/AL_1901.shtml
  5. Damm you're right, I didn't even think to look that far into it. The first WS was in 1903.
  6. LOL!! You have to climb into the way way back machine to the very first WS in 1901. I guess that makes the Sox the original Also-Rans.
  7. Who are the two proven pitchers Past? Buehrle and...................................
  8. Of course two of our WS teams were managed by guys with the letter "G", Griffith and Gleason. Now they both lost the WS(ok, to be accurate, one loss one thrown) but at least they got there which I'd settle for at the moment. So maybe there is some hope for Guillen.
  9. And yet we have much less team to show for it. I'll hold my commendations for them thank you.
  10. Honestly I don't understand it, he had difficulty getting that patented late movement of his on his fastball early in the yr and balls that were normally popups and flyouts were leaving the yard, he was able to get it back though and finished strong. If he had ended the season with no movement on his fastball then yea there'd be reason for concern. Buehrle likewise had problems getting his slider to slide early in the season but he also was able to turn it around. Maddux will sign with the Giants, win 16-18 games, and help them get to the WS. The Sox on the otherhand will at best be a 3 and done playoff team or more likely a trade deadline seller, but hey at least we didn't sign some 38 yr old washed up 6 inning pitcher.
  11. Where does this 6 inning pitcher stuff come from? Maddux had 15 starts of more than 6 innings last yr which is damm good for the NL, Buehrle had 17.
  12. Juan Rivera went to the Expos in the Vasquez trade.
  13. Without a 3rd pitch he's not a starter and him being injured or not wasn't going to change that.
  14. That depends if Affeldt is in the rotation or pen, if he's in the rotation then yea they still need a lefty.
  15. KC has a killer first two months, if they can survive it and by within 5 games of 1st watch out. Minny on the other hand, if they have a good West coast trip in May could break out to a 2000 Sox type lead by July 1st. They do have a brutal August but KC and the Sox may have already white flagged it by then. IMO the Sox best chance rest with Koch and whether he regains his velocity, we should know that in less than 10 days.
  16. Man, some of you guys sure are generous to Schoney who's previous season high is 10 wins and may not even make the rotation. Unless Cotts or Rauch steps up big time, 65 wins max out of the rotation.
  17. Now Obno who are you? You obviously know Baj.
  18. Where is this from? A story or an appearance on SC?
  19. IMO barring a trade, Neal will be the 5th starter out of camp, I base this mostly on my lack of confidence in Schoney to grab the 4th spot. If he will throw his new cutter for strikes everything else will follow and we'll end up with an effective young pitcher. Btw, I got to watch Neal vs the Rangers at the Cell last yr, did you guys give him any s*** for his only win coming on Elvis Night?
  20. Carl Everett? Thanks for another good example of what can happen by waiting, we could get stuck picking up a good portion of the $6 mil that'd be remaining on Magg's just to move him. Everett's value didn't rise during the season, in fact if the Rangers had said they'd pay his entire $9 mil salary for the yr(which is what they ended up doing) before the season started they'd have gotten more than what they got from us. I never compared Ray and El Duque to Maggs, but since you mentioned it, who was the last player of Magg's stature(no pitchers) to be traded at the deadline and what did they get for him? And who's your trading partner? The same guys as now? But of course they'd all rather wait til the trade deadline to pay more for Magg's yet only have him available for 2 months, and of course they're going to give up a starting pitcher to get him. So all we have to do is sit back and hope that Maggs doesn't get hurt, doesn't go Konerko, and that we fall hopelessly out of contention, so that some team with extra pitching, loads of good prospects, and tons of cash can swoop in and pay more for a 2 month rental than they would've for the entire yr. Sounds like a plan to me?
