  1. This would've been a nice pickup for us:
  2. Be very leery of spring training HR's esp from Arizona, those are warning track shots in the Cell. Uribe also has only one BB and 5 errors this spring, he hasn't beaten Willie out for anything yet.
  3. Hey, Schoe gets his preseason, I need mine too. Can't you wait til the regular season before you start judging my naysaying.
  4. Actually this last start was his full repetoire of pitches, I'm still not impressed. I'll give him one more start before the body slams begin.
  5. Headcase was probably a little strong(heh it was 3:30 in the morning when I wrote that ), difficult is what I recollect out of Philly but then who isn't with Bowa as manager. Still, he was cut by the D-Rays and now St Louis, doesn't that tell ya something? He's also never played anything but 2nd in the majors.
  6. Robin is having a bad spring for LA and there's a chance he might be let go, hell let's bring him back and have a reunion!!!!! I'd rather have him than Burke or Dransfeldt.
  7. Anderson is a headcase, stay far far away. Cora has only 1 yr where he was getting on base consistently plus you don't know about his relationship with brother Joey, he's also never played 3rd and he's been out all spring with a broken arm.
  8. Kong is hitting .317 and starting to heat up. Just noticed looking up that Kong avg, we hit 8 doubles yesterday. Damm!!!!
  9. Of course payroll was way down last yr from '02 also and it's still under from 2001
  10. Yes, and after having read all the other stories on the move it was the worst of the lot to boot.
  11. Let the Dodgers get hamstrung by his contract, our concerns/needs/questions going into ST were 4th starter, relief pitcher, leadoff hitter and now that we're heading into the final week of ST those 3 are still our biggest concerns/needs/questions. Jr can do none of those so adding him would do little to change our fortunes. Besides, in a yr or two you'll be stuck paying him $12 mil to DH, that's a silly waste of resources.
  12. Right, and even if he goes to as many as 40-50 games in person that's still a far cry from 162(81 on the road).
  13. Who did Oakland pick with the two draft choices they got for losing Durham?
  14. I would hope that KW has been talking to the Marlins ever since they selected him, it's not a good idea to have no flexability in moving your 12th pitcher.
  15. Of course the saving grace as far as getting him thru waivers is that any team that would claim him would also have to keep him on the 25 man for the whole yr.
  16. There's an exemption for a rehab assignment but it's limited. Not sure of the details.
  17. Actually wasn't it 5 yrs they were together?
  18. Bull, any disappointment in going back to 'Bham? I'm looking at Charlotte's pen and it's basically Arnie and a handful of converted starters. There's definitely move up room there for a reliever, so keep up the good fight. Also, have you been talking to Cotts at all? I think he's getting jobbed over the final spot.
  19. It should be a very good rotation but the pen is still suspect. The pen problems pale in comparison to the infield which may be the worse in AAA, expect alot of unearned runs and if Reed and Joe B. aren't hitting.............
  20. . Brian Roberts. The Orioles might wait a little bit longer to see how Jerry Hairston's broken finger heals before dealing Roberts. But Roberts has many valuable attributes, he's young, inexpensive and can lead off. Baltimore could live with Mark McLemore at second base until Hairston is ready. The Orioles are shopping for a starter and are willing to add more salary depending on the pitcher. Add lefty specialist Buddy Groom to the mix, and the Orioles have an attractive package to offer. Not sure if they'd consider a Rauch or Grilli but it might be worth looking into, he's a grinder. Also, do ya see a possibility here for a 3 way with Anaheim? I do definitely.
  21. Ramon Ortiz. The Angels' offseason spending spree has them looking to shed salary. It's doubtful they would want to part with Jarrod Washburn since he's the only left-hander on their staff. Ortiz, who has a 54-42 career record, can chew up innings. He will make $3.1 million this season (with a team option for 2005), and teams won't have to give up elite prospects to get him. That's a good recipe for a trade. $3.1 mil isn't a horrible stretch and could be made up by trading Maggs etc. later on if things don't work out.
  22. Your right on with both points, and last yr was only yr 1 of decent D. I'm afraid some though will always downgrade our D as long as Jose is the SS.
  23. AROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's.....MY GUY!!!!!!
  24. I agree, losses in ST aren't important in and of themselves but you don't want to string a bunch of them together at any time.
