  1. Well in looking at that Steff I'm seeing for 2003 revenue from Team share as 1,340,740. I'm also seeing Park Maintenance Expenditures of 7,296,772 and Team Mainenance Subsidy of 2,641,050 or 9,937,822 for park and team maintenance. Now to be fair it is up 5 mil in '03 probably do to all the painting and AS prep falling under Park Maintenance but I'd say JR did quite well with the state not only paying for park maintenance but also reimbursing him for clubhouse(and most likely field) maintenance.
  2. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=whit...ov=st&type=lgns CHICAGO (Ticker) - The Chicago White Sox signed eight players to minor league deals Wednesday, including veteran righthander Robert Person and outfielder Marvin Benard. Also signed were righthanders Mike Jackson and Jose Santiago, lefthander Vic Darensbourg and infielders Bobby Smith, Kelly Dransfeldt and Mike Bell. All eight were invited to spring training. Person, 34, is 51-42 with a 4.64 ERA in 206 major league appearances. Always considered talented, Person has been hampered by injuries throughout his career, although he went 15-7 in 33 starts for Philadelphia in 2001. Benard, 34, spent his first nine big league seasons with San Francisco, batting .271 with 54 home runs and 260 RBI. He ranks 11th among active players with 52 pinch hits and still can provide speed in the outfield. Jackson, 39, was out of baseball last season after making 58 relief appearances with Minnesota in 2002. He is 60-67 with 142 saves and a 3.35 ERA in 960 games - all but seven out of the bullpen - over 17 major league seasons. The other five also have major league experience, most notably Smith. The 29-year-old Smith hit .276 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI as a rookie for Tampa Bay in 1998 but never developed at third base and enters the 2004 season with a .232 lifetime average. Outfielder Jeremy Reed, one of the top players in minor league baseball last season, also received an invitation to camp. Reed, 22, combined to bat .373 with 11 homers, 95 RBI and 45 stolen bases between Class A and AA last year. The White Sox invited three other non-roster players with major league experience to spring training - righthanders Carlos Castillo and Ryan Kohlmeier and lefthander Josh Stewart. White Sox pitchers and catchers report to camp February 20, five days before position players
  3. He's someone by April 15th you'll have completely forgotten about.
  4. Ginter had 20 appearances 40 IP in 2001 and 33 appearances 54 IP in 2002, that seems to me like plenty of time for a guy not getting it done. Last yr he had only 3.1 IP put he gave up 5 ER in that short time.
  5. I think the Sox have given Ginter ample opportunity, he just hasn't responded with consistent performance. I would agree he could be a trade sweetener, maybe for our backup at 3rd/1st.
  6. Yes Ginter is make or break, it's doubtful he'd clear waivers. Rauch has one option left(thus the reason we didn't bring him up last September).
  7. There are no fantasies that have Odalis Perez in them.
  8. Huh?? Aaahh No, they didn't send a writer they sent Teddy Greenstein.
  9. LOL!!! The omnibus trade rumor! Surprised they didn't include Maggs and LoDuca going to Boston from LA for Nomar and Damon. Or will that be tommorrows rumor.
  10. At this point the taxpayers(fans) may be the happiest out of the deal.
  11. Well I know you had eyes set on others so at this point I'll just agree to disagree.
  12. Owens is another RH bat and would have limited uses for us.
  13. An answer to your Carl Everett question comes in a round-a-bout way from Jason Stark. One of the hot rumors bouncing beneath the baseball radar screen this week had Pudge Rodriguez signing with a mystery team, then giving his permission for that team to trade him back to the Marlins. Otherwise, of course, the rules say he can't sign with the Marlins before May 1. Well, there's just one minor problem with that scenario: It's about as legal as armed robbery. "That would circumvent the intent of the rule, the heart of the rule and the rule itself," says one baseball man. "The rule says he can't go back to his old team until May 1. Period." A free agent can agree to waive the rule which says he can't be traded by his new team until after June 15. But a trade back to his previous team before May 1 would look like a blatant attempt to circumvent the law. Which, oh-by-the-way, is exactly what that would be. So there you go, we couldn't trade for Carl back til May 1st at a minimum and more like June 15th.
  14. Well that pretty much puts the kabosh on it then as it'll take a couple of months to sort out and there's no way KW will let this go into ST.
  15. Thanks JimH, I didn't know about the Monday schedule for invites so I got two good tidbits in one post.
  16. First, any trade for Maggs would have to bring a major league starting pitcher in return, that's a non-negotiable point for KW at this point as it would be PR suicide not to. Second, it would have to include Jackson or Miller or it makes no sense to do the deal. KW also has to get enough money back to balance his budget, that's a non-negotiable JR requirement. Demands for Mota and a prospect could easily be dropped and not effect the core of the deal so if this grows any legs don't be surprised to see KW drop his demands for both. Any way, nothing is going to happen til the sale is at least imminent which means next weekend at the earliest.
  17. DETROIT (AP) -- Ivan Rodriguez has been offered a $40 million, four-year contract by the Detroit Tigers, a baseball source told The Associated Press on Friday. The 10-time All-Star catcher and his agent, Scott Boras, were in Detroit on Thursday, according to the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski said earlier this week the team is interested in Rodriguez, but has declined to elaborate much on his discussions with Boras. ``We continue to explore the situation,'' Dombrowski said Friday, before flying to the Chicago area for his father's birthday. ``I don't expect anything imminently.'' http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-t...ov=ap&type=lgns
  18. Reed should have almost no chance of making it, he needs time in AAA. EOS. The ????? will be if JoeB can impress this ST, even then there's worse things to do than carry 5 OFers. Say like, carry 3 catchers. JimH, how old is rumor?
  19. He'll be 34 this yr and yes he been hurt the past two yrs but he's my top 4th OFer candidate of the guys left and he's also an excellent LH PHer. If we have signed him I'm quite pleased.
  20. Well it's going to feed up to ST no matter what, so I guess it doesn't matter either way because even if he did confront things at Soxfest he'd have to do it all over again in ST for the reporters who weren't there.
  21. I thought Jose was planning on skipping winter ball altogether this yr, that he played at all may have just been to get some LH AB's against lefties. If that's the case you can take those stats with a grain of salt.
  22. Good point Rex and I agree, but just to play devil's advocate for a second, wouldn't it be better to get the inevitable media scrutiny over with now in a more casual environment than to wait for the highly charged atmosphere of reporting day? Even if it's to say little more than "I don't need a relationship with my manager to play baseball".
  23. Funny MSF, JB was exactly who I thought of when I heard we got Person. I guess that's not either terrible or great though the Ritchie comps above but a scare into me. Really though, the only way this is a bad signing is if they think that they're done now and don't need to pursue anyone else. Personally, I'd like to see them also go after Astacio, he does have ELo potential.
  24. Don't see Juan Gone getting anything better than what the Tiggers offered Reggie Sanders, in fact Sanders wouldn't be a bad alternative either.
  25. There are still lots of options out there esp. now that they cleared all that brown money.
