While I agree with your assessment the reality is that he can't get his curve over for a strike thus the hitters discount it and sit on that weak fastball instead. His changeup fools no one, they all get wood on it. For him to be anything but a wasted roster spot for us the rest of the yr he's going to have to remake himself, that's a tall order to expect.

Yesterday loss could mean to our manager and GM that we need another closer. Imagine if what happened yesterday happens in late september in a series agst tthe Royals or Twins??? The idea is to have everything gelling by the time "late in the season" rolls around. And that's another bright spot in this sea of misery -- while losing to TB sucks gonads, I'd rather have what happened yesterday happen @ TB as opposed to @ MIN or @ KC. Of course if you keep losing TB type games now then the games in Sept. will be meaningless. Come to think of it, when was the last time we played a meaningful game in September? '93?

Not exactly true, Koch's velocity dropped off in September last yr and eventually cost them a WS. Beane recognized that and unloaded him on KW.

The Royals traded a couple of marginal prospects -- pitcher Wes Obermueller and second baseman Alejandro Machado -- for hard-throwing Curtis Leskanic. That won't make big headlines anywhere. That won't get Bobby Valentine cooing. But this is exactly the kind of subtle move that makes teams better. The Royals had to improve their bullpen. So they traded a couple of guys who didn't fit in their future, spent a little extra money and got a guy who might make a big difference in that bullpen.

Not neccessarily, if you're a team that wants him but are down on the waiver order you may make a trade to assure getting him, that's how we got Olivo for Bradford and basically Marte from Pitt.
