  1. Just to point out the overlooked but obvious, who to say that they were scouting Lilly? There's another BJ that would be of interest to the Sox, Miguel Bautista. I know he didn't end up pitching that night but maybe the Sox felt that the best chance of seeing a reliever pitch was with Lilly starting. Anyhoo, just a thought.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) This rook looks pretty good, a couple of mistakes, but decent arm. They have some good looking young arms, too bad their ownership will deal everyone off before they're all ready. Wish they'd deal with us.
  3. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) If Randa is willing to accept a bench role I would be interested in acquiring him. The Sox do have starters to spare so if that is what Cincy is asking we can certainly meet that price. Now that I've had a chance to think this over there's no way I do this at any price. 3 months of listening to the Crede haters whine incessantly over why he's starting over Randa is just not worth it. I don't know what it would do to the teams chemistry but I know for a fact that it would kill mine.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) I would be willing to bet that the Cubs season ticket base is double the Sox. No hard evidence, just a hunch. I'd be willing to bet it's almost triple(the scrubs are supposedly around 28k and we're a little over 9k). No idea how many are corporate holders but my guess is a majority are for the scrubs. And don't forget north shore Biff and Buffy who get tix so they can comp their semi-impressed friends.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) I think Randa would love the chance to play for a contender in whatever role ... A career of KC, and now last place Cinci? I would guess the same, however, if Cincy is looking for SP and Minny is willing to part with Loshe to get Randa, I don't see where we are anywhere in the ballpark unless we deal BMac which would be........god damm stupid! Now if they were willing to take Adkins.............
  6. Ok back to reality for a moment...... I'll throw a name out that's an excellent fit for what we are looking for in a starter, Jamie Moyer. Now there is the issue of his no trade clause, but given this is his last yr and if we are the mortal locks for a playoff spot that we should/could be come the last week of July he may be tempted into a 3 month "vacation" for a run at going out a winner. It's also pretty reasonable to assume that the M's would be reasonable in accomodating him.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Partially torn rotator cuffs usually dont excite people. But Jose Mesa and Sean Burroughs do?????
  8. Interesting no mention of Guadardo, he must fall within the exclusive domain of the scrubs. Insideous bias!
  9. Jim you left out how in the heck Randa is going to hit 45 points better without facing the Sox 19 times. Please add it to your list for the next time.
  10. Ok, I'll give it a try here, say: "MAN, did you see that slam that Jeter hit? That pitcher sure can serve up da bombs!" and if he mumbles something about it being him, come back with, "Really, you look much thinner on TV". Then finish it off with some Sox luv: "Speaking of bombs, The Yankmees and scrubs in the same place, where's Osama Bin Laden when you need him."
  11. As the season grows shorter and our lead grows wider the need for a 5th starter becomes less and less. Unless El Duque goes down completely and BMac just flat out can't cut it, we should be able to get by with a combo of those two the rest of the way out. What we need to do is solidify our chances of winning the other 4 days and since, IMO, there is no bat we can realistically go and get to assure that(in fact it can be argue that we just got that bat with Frank's return) then our best bet is to get a quality BP arm.
  12. Not sure why you'd say that no one would trade for him and his contract is quite reasonable for a closer(team option for $4.5 in '06, player option for less or FA). As to his arm, yes that concerns me but this is also something he has pitched with all yr to the tune of 19 saves and a 1.38 era. Is there a risk? Hell yea and that's why I've gone back and forth with him but that risk also means that his price will be much less and with him in a dual closer role with Hermy the prospect of him being overworked(actually both of them) can be controlled. IMO he is exactly what KW is looking for, someone who can easily be added to the mix without upsetting the chemistry while significantly upgrading a key team component.
  13. This thread shoulda been named Wet Todd Helton Dream so I could've ignored it.
  14. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Anyone got it figured out what our starting rotation might be for the Rockies series? If the rotation holds true it'll be Contreras, El Duque, and Garland in that order.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Wow. Any real baseball fan knows that you can't bust on Patterson for not making that catch. If he makes that catch it is web gem material, and it changes all of the momentum from the series. He was in a full extension dive people, we aren't talking about one of those cheesy, this looks way better on TV, but there is no real need for it, half-slide, Maggs diving catches... we are talking about a full board dive. Get past the Cub hatred, and find some appreciation for the rarity of the catch Patterson tried to make. That would have been an awesome catch, like Patterson or not. Excellent post. The only thing you could add is thank god he didn't make it.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) He wouldn't have to be trashed if he hadn't treated Marte that way. He deserves to be trashed, just like Ordonez. Get off his sack. Yea, yea, yea...he was a clubhouse cancer...yada, yada, yada.....whatever. Oh wait, are we talking about CLee or AJP?????
  17. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Some people can't be pleased with 31-12 and have to resort to their other scenarios that could have played out. You are exactly right, they wouldn't want Paul Konerko. Everyone should just be pleased with where we are and quit thinking up bulls*** that didn't happen. Get over it. Lee is gone, he was a dog in the clubhouse based on the Marte stuff that came out and I'm glad we have Pods. Some people can't be pleased with a trade working out well for his team but instead find the need to trash the guy incessently.............
  18. QUOTE(toasty @ May 22, 2005 -> 05:52 AM) just where would our pitching staff be if we had MO instead of AJ?? i don't even wanna think about that one! ... I say lock up AJ longer term before season's end oh... and yeah, clee has good offensive power.... but i think he was traded more not for his net worth to another team, but rather traded to remove his negativity from the clubhouse! Ya know, I can go along with the whole "going in a different direction" reason for trading CLee but I'll never get this need to trash the guy just because he's gone. Whatever!
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) What if it takes Frank 3 months to start hitting like it did after his last major surgery? What if Frank leads the Angels to the WS by knocking off the Sox in the playoffs?
  20. As someone who was initially skeptical of this trade, I've become satisfied with the results for both teams as it relates to SPods and CLee. I don't see why a winner has to be declared between the two. As to Viz(and the reason I wasn't too happy about the trade), he has so far been exactly what I feared. Mediocre at best. I would've been much happier with Turnbow or Wise.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ May 22, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) Tim Raines Exactlly, would also add that it would be Ozzie's call not KW's.
  22. A good point to resurect this thread, since the last post El Duque in his next outing had his worse outing of the yr and has gone on the DL with a sore shoulder. Was it really worth overextending him to save the BP an inning?
  23. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 9, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) As of now the Twins hold the Wild Card and that's my goal for the Sox. Sure winning the division would be great, but getting in via the Wild Card would be just fine also. The last 2 World Series champs were Wild Card winners. Uhm, make that the last 3.
  24. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 9, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) This begs the question: What constitues a start? Does this "start" extend to the All-Star break? Does it end after a set amount of games, wins, or losses? At what point does a "start" turn into a regular season record? ...I suppose that's more than one question. I'd say at this point you go with mile markers, 40 games, 50 games, All-Star break, and 100 games. After that you're in the stretch run and it doesn't matter. Since we can't beat the 40 game mark('84 Tiggers 35-5) then the next would be the 50 game mark with the '28 Yanks at 40-10. We could match that by duplicating our last 19 games with 16-3.
  25. Well I'd still love to get Mackowiak. Harris, Perez, and a prospect might get it done.
