  1. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) If McCarthy gives us the best chance to win, then thats who I want pitching. If that were true then I'd agree but our best chance to win is to skip him and go El Duque, Garland, and Buehrle vs the Tiggers.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Robin Ventura Dan Plesac.
  3. DJ was probably complaining about how awful his experience was at the ballgame with Hawk smoking next to him so Hawk said "fine, I'll give'em an awful experience, let DJ do the PBP by himself".
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Anyone remember that Ken Rosenthal piece where KW thought he has 5 starters who could all win over 15 games each (and got pretty much shot down by other GM's experts etc.). Maybe, just maybe he wasn't so crazy after all, but I doubt things will keep up the way they are. If we get 2 or 3 over 15 wins, we should definitely take that IMHO. Jose can't win 15 games if he can't get decisions and he can't get decisions if he keeps throwing 100 pitches thru 5 IP. The others have a chance but the O will have to do better with RISP to have a chance.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) No doubt. Brantley says the sox have bullpen issues that will show up later in the season :rolly EDIT: I could care less what these guys have to say but imo the bullpen is the strongest area on the team and he thinks it's a weak spot, yeah he's an idiot. Well we do, and they may show up later, or sooner, or not at all. Or we may trade to rectify them. At this point I have concerns with our BP and also Ozzie's handling of it but I'm willing to ride it out for a while to see how things shape up. I surely wouldn't call someone an idiot for questioning it just like I wouldn't call someone an idiot for calling it the strongest area on the team. Btw, IMO in the long run the teams dreadful OBP and hitting with RISP will cost far more than the BP.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) He had to pass through waivers to get to AAA. Nobody wanted him. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) No, he really doesn't. Any team could have had Davis for the cost of a waiver claim. Unless he lights it up at Charlotte and a team loses their catcher to injury, Davis has zero trade value. If a team had claimed him off waivers they would've also been responsible for his $1 mil salary, thus the reason he was not claimed. He also didn't sign with someone else because he would've had to forfeit that $1 mil and Mrs Davis didn't raise that much of an idiot. He still has value to teams(if the Sox pick up most of that salary) and that could include the Sox but we really don't have a need we need to fill at the moment so why force a trade.
  7. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) you mean you don't like this ? Just for that I'll have to perform an exorcism:
  8. Honestly, let go straight to the root cause of the problem. IT'S ALL F'N TITO LANDRUM'S FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) To those around 30.. was losing HC that big of a deal to you guys..?? I ask this because if it wasn't.. then do you think it's appropriate to still blame that on lack of attention? Most season ticket holders I know are in the 28 to 40 range... Me personally, I don't care that he was fired. For many(mostly the older fans) it was definitely part of the equation, that he went over to the scrubs and turned the place into the beer garden it is now stings a little more. Let me ask you this, if a new owner came in now and summararily fired Hawk would it bother you?
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) Almost $25 million in two years, including going from $65 million to $75 million in 2004 to 2005. Not sure where that $75 mil is coming from but adding up salaries brings the payroll at a little over $67 mil including Davis. And 3 yrs ago it was around $66 mil.
  11. we are also 17th in runs scored, 23rd in AVG, 29th in OBP, 30th in RISP AVG and OBP, and 29th(.156) with RISP/2 out. I think the central point of Couches column was that we were sold "smallball" as an improvement when the reality is is that it was merely a cover for costcutting.
  12. If you can get Gar signed to a 3 yr $16 mil contract plus incentives I'd do that now for sure. I not sure he'd sign that but it would be a fair contract for both sides.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 05:57 AM) That, I agree with. If Shingo was throwing those meatballs up there like everyone said, then Ozzie should have jerked him after that second dinger. No doubt. Or why didn't he at least go out there after the 2nd HR to say something? And this isn't just an Ozzie thing, you see managers sitting on their ass all the time while some guy is out there serving up meatballs. You have 2 trips why not use them. Instead, the guy gets taken long on the next pitch and the downward spiral continues. Btw, JM used to be the worse at this.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 07:23 AM) Man, how good does that trade look? Snyder pitched only 1 year with the Brewers, and Navarro was still horrible with them. Meanwhile, Eldred won 10 games for us and Valentin was our SS for 5 years, and was huge for our division winning team in 2000. Props to Schu for that one. How can you give props to Schu when he was the dumb f_ck who signed him over Alex and Clemens in the first place.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) Actually it should be their 67% to out 33%. I fear for our education system, but just to clerify this flawed logic 3 mil + 2 mil is a total of 5 mil. Thus 3 mil of 5mil(3/5)= 60% and 2 mil of 5 mil(2/5) = 40% so even going with the flawed logic, coverage should be a 60/40 split. Cowley has cancer and must've had some relapse as he was there in Feb, the question I have is why haven't they given some intern a shot at doing the coverage?
  16. So are you saying our chances are closer to 50-1 then???
  17. Didn't they run the same story last yr?
  18. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) BMac is being asked to be the #5 SP, not the #1 Is he? Or does it depend on what he thinks he's has to replace? In the meantime, Friday should be a big start for him since until now he's been able to pitch worry free all spring.
  19. Well this may have turned out to be the best scenerio there was, I've broken that toe before and while it hurts like a b**** when you do it, with a special shoe, in a week or ten days he should be throwing again and the majority of his discomfort will be covering 1st base and it should have very little effect on his delivery. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if only misses one start. PHEW!!!!!
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) I used to feel the same way. Rogers used to be one of the best. However since he became the Cubs beat writer at the halfway point of last season, I've noticed a very distinct change in his point of view. Paul Sullivan is the beat writer for the scrubs. I didn't have a problem with Rogers column, he didn't just make those Ozzie quotes up and he was there in Fla to give us context to how the Maggs quotes came about. Ozzie needs to zip it(esp when he's standing in a glass house). Gay boy on the otherhand immediately turned it into another JR rip job and of course in the end made it all about himself.
  21. QUOTE(BridgeportHeather @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 05:39 AM) Does anyone know the terms to which Cotts signed? And, what's Honel's chances of playing in the bigs this summer? September call-up? Wait til next year??? Neil is entitled to a 10% raise or $330,000 if he makes the 25 man. IMO Honel's chances are slim to none but we'll wait and see about September.
  22. Yep our problem was too many HR's.
  23. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) What does Gload have to do to prove he can be a strong bat off the bench? I don't buy into this RH & LH bat stuff. What count's his how a guy does against RH & LH hurlers. 3 yr avgs vs RH, LH: Gload 218AB .298A, .358O, .445S .803 Gload 47AB, .383A, .420O, .574S, .994 That looks pretty strong to me I like Gload alot but where's he going to get AB's this yr? He'll be lucky if his AB's are only cut in half. Merkin is a shill for the Sox, that's ok if you want some insider info or just need a little Sox love but as far as an objective analysis you might well listen in to a KW news conference.
  24. All the pitching staffs have ?????, I know it's stating the obvious but it needed to be said. However, with El Duque as our #3 and the ???? about his durability there's no way we should be considered a top 5 staff, I mean where would you rate us if Gar is our #3? That's what we'll have if El Duque can't go. Btw, I can't believe the no love that Radke is getting here, if we had signed him away from the Twinks that would've been the coup of the whole off-season and I'd now be driving Sox ALC Champions train.
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Actually his analysis is spot on. We lost Maggs HRs from 2003 to 2004, not 2004 to 2005. Maggs loss will only be felt as what we aren't getting from his 2004 numbers. This year we won't even notice Maggs is gone, because we essentially lost him last year anyway. So then our analysis for '04 to '05 should be that we finish 9 games back of the Twins?
