  1. Dahl might be a good DH option. (Keeps him healthy) Another thing about Dahl: He was non-tendered so the signing team has his control rights until he accumulates enough time to be free. BTW I think in the next CBA FA becomes an age. It will be something like 29-31 depending on the age of the player in his first completed full season. In return players get arbitration after 2 full seasons in MLB.
  2. I'm surprised that the 125M offer to Wheeler was legit. In normal times, that would be very good news. The Sox are going to have to get creative in order to finish off this rebuild now. Like I said, I don't think Jerry is cheap, but I'm annoyed how he hires 3 players that do less combined than one player at the same price. That will never make sense to me. He likes to spread the money around. $25M is $25M whether it's spent on 3 players or one. That I'll never understand. For example, he could end up paying, this year, Pederson and Schwarber a couple million less than Springer and get a much worse result. I'll never understand that. Jerry has had top 5 payrolls in baseball before so accusing him of being cheap is dumb. I just disagree with his philosophy in a couple places. Free Agency is one of them.
  3. Based on the info in this thread, I think Jerry would have gone to 9 figures if we weren't in a raging pandemic that makes gate revenue impossible. As of now, I don't think he's willing to go to 9 until he makes up whatever paper losses he has from 2020 and 2021. Jerry is very risk averse, and I get it. It's his team, his choice.
  4. I thought that they didn't offer the $250 until the $300 was already on the table, and apparently that was incorrect. I also have maintained that the offer wasn't serious if it didn't begin with a 3. That turned out to be accurate. I admit that I was wrong on the Wheeler deal, and I'm surprised they actually went there. Sounds like they would have had him if Philly had decided to tap out at that point.
  5. @SonofaRoache You might want to delete this post before wifey finds it. She would be pissed.
  6. I didn't see the Y2J posts on Wheeler. That's believable. Why not offer the same for top dollar to Bauer then? That's about where he's at.
  7. Guaranteed money is guaranteed money dude. I'm tired of litigating whether or not Jerry is weird when it comes to player contracts every time I post on this board. Do I believe Jerry spends? Yeah. He prefers to spread it around rather than on top of the market guys, regardless of the fact that spending it on top of the market guys might be a more efficient use of the money. That's his choice. He's the owner, and there's nothing I can do about it. If you guys want to believe fairy tales, that's your choice.
  8. Dude. I think the Machado and Wheeler offers were very real. I also think that the Sox already knew that there was a zero percent chance that the player accepted at the time they made them. It was 100% a PR ploy with the fanbase to not let them know how cheap they really were.
  9. Supposedly there were some options at the end but they were monopoly money vesting options that were unlikely to be reached by anyone.
  10. Yeah, because I don't think they had any intention of going over the 7/175 that Bruuuce was reporting. Manny was never going to sign that.
  11. You are so naive. Bruuuuuuuce was telling us they were at 7/175 for however long. That offer was a joke. San Diego goes to $300M. Sox offer the $250M and insult the fanbase's intelligence saying that they think it's a better offer.
  12. Would they really? Sure they don't want the 2 extra years of control?
  13. Why don't you understand that the $250M offer was never going to be accepted because it began with a 2 and not a 3. Neither Machado nor Harper were signing for a penny less that $300M guaranteed. Harper's price was probably $326M, as that would have been the largest deal in MLB history at that point.
  14. Where did you get that idea? Vaughn is a hell of a prospect. I have no issues with Vaughn as a hitter. My issue with taking him where they did was that he's 1B/DH only, and the Sox already have a logjam there.
  15. They brought in his buddies to see if they could avoid paying MSRP.
  16. I shudder to think of what a long term piece would cost.
  17. Eh, I'm talking about options beyond Springer. Beyond Pederson and Calhoun, there really aren't any that won't be super expensive. So if they don't sign Pederson, can't reach an agreement on a deal for Calhoun .......where's the upgrade coming from?
  18. I'm failing to see the options beyond Pederson and Calhoun, if it's true that Nimmo/Conforto/Gallo aren't available. What teams have an MLB ready top 30 OF that bats L or S that also have a huge hole at 1B? Bleday would look pretty good rn.
  19. Idk how I missed it. I follow Stone on twitter too. I had no idea the Sox were frustrated with him. EDIT: went back to the start of the season on Stone's twitter and saw nothing of the sort.
