  1. That's why I don't want anything to do with Lynn. If they trade anything more than the offer in the OP for Lynn it would be a massive overpay.
  2. I wouldn't consider him a premier pitcher. I'd rather pay just money for Tanaka, even with the UCL issue. I think Lynn and Tanaka are similar pitchers.
  3. On another sports forum I argue that point. There are people that think that the Bears D has average talent. I cannot understand that point of view.
  4. I thought it was said that Jerry owns enough of the team that if he was gone, the group is selling. IIRC there is no majority owner with the Sox ownership group but I do believe that Jerry owns a significant plurality. Like greater than 30% and possibly slightly over 40%. Nobody knows for sure.
  5. IIRC Lynn played under Tony with the Cards early in his career.
  6. Yes. Harper's AAV is 25.3M. The contract has 11 years left. Jerry is 85. He probably doesn't have to worry about the last few years. Or at least, he shouldn't.
  7. You agree that the D is really talented to have been as good as they were in spite of Pagano for 10 weeks, right?
  8. He's making the same AAV that they supposedly offered to Wheeler last year, unless the Wheeler offer of 5/125 was bullshit.
  9. The Bears had given up 20 points or more 4 times in the 1st 10 games. The most points they gave up up until then was 26. IIRC 2 of the times they gave up 20+ the opponent scored on defense. They were 3rd in the NFL in DVOA leading into the Packers game. They obviously have the talent. The last two: 41 and 34. The team has to have quit....even though Pagano sucks. Up until that point, they had been good because of the talent and in spite of Pagano.
  10. Agreed, that was just asinine as well. The D played well until last week. They entered the GB game 3rd in DVOA despite facing the toughest schedule of offenses of any team in the NFL. I think a bunch of guys are making business decisions. That being said, Pagano sucks. They could be elite if he had a clue.
  11. With the percentage of cap allocated to the defense, losing when the offense scores 30 is completely unacceptable.
  12. The Sox spend more of their money and time going for Cuban talent that is older and basically playing at an AA level. They think it's a safer investment than 13-14 year olds. I understand their strategy completely, but if they have a chance to sign a guy at 16 they shouldn't just pass it up.
  13. I really like Kyle Trask, but I'd jump in front of Pittsburgh if they want to take him. You want the 5th year option for a QB. I wouldn't take Trask as high as the Bears are drafting.
  14. Everyone knows IL has high taxes and it's quite possible that they're higher here than they are in PA.
  15. Most of the time the money isn't that close.....and I'd take it that most of the time a player and his SO will take the dough.
  16. The difference in quality of life between $118M and $125M is about the same.
  17. Robert was 20 years old. That's a huge difference to Jerry. Yeah, and they had to take on $31.5M to trade for Moncada as well. Jerry is more risk averse than most in his tax bracket. He's very calculated, which is part of the reason he's a billionaire.
  18. When you're talking about a 9 figure contract, $7m changes his quality of life zero percent. And BTW, they're married now and have a kid together.
  19. Thanks bmags. This is exactly the point I was trying to make. This is how I think it went down: Wheeler: I'm planning on signing in Chicago Mrs Wheeler: I'd really prefer to stay on the East Coast, close to NYC. What's the difference in money? Wheeler: 20M right now. Mrs Wheeler: If you can get the money close, I'd prefer to stay over here Wheeler: Ok that makes sense Wheeler goes to his agent and says that if they can get the money difference to under $10M we'll sign in Philly. Go to Klentak and see if he can get it done. Klentak obliges, Wheeler signs in Philly.
  20. Hell no. The Cubs rebuild as a whole wasn't a failure at all. I think those who say it is are ridiculous. But pretending a lot of their players didn't severely underachieve in enough seasons is wrong though. It wasn't a failure and it was disappointing to their fans simultaneously. Does that make sense? Every one of their major players underachieved at one point or another except Rizzo after 2016.
  21. It would pretty much kill their flexibility and we'd be in a position like the Cubs were though. If some guys underperform they just have to deal with it. That being said I agree with it. However, there's no point in discussing it because it will never happen.
