  1. The Sox offer was supposedly 5/125. He ended up signing for 5/118 with Philly. The money was close, but $7m cash money is still $7m cash money.
  2. I actually like the hire, it's just weird to see him switching sides. I found him insufferable with the Cubs. It would be like Hawk switching in 2001 or so.
  3. Machado is an example of "sometimes the best moves you make, are the ones you don't make" Moncada is a borderline GG 3B, and he's way better there than he was at 2B. We'd have never found out with Machado here. They were going after the wrong guy that winter. They needed Harper instead. With the Phillies cutting payroll, now is the time to correct that.
  4. They're going virtual. Rumor is it will be a week later than usual so the week before Xmas. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-announces-2020-winter-meetings-are-going-virtual/#:~:text=Major League Baseball announced on,as a series of teleconferences. This article is outdated I saw something that they were going to push it back on twitter a few days ago. Can't find the link.
  5. Yeah, I'd say so. I think that the 3 Japanese pitchers (Sugano, Arihara and Tanaka) are on a clear 2nd tier above the rest of the FA options.
  6. They already have DeGrom and Syndergaard is returning from injury this year. They don't really need a TOR guy.
  7. Sounds like left handed Javy Vazquez. He's the guy I bring up constantly for pitchers that consistently underperform their peripherals.
  8. I can think that Kasper was insufferable and completely agree with you here. The way I look at it is that Len was kinda like Hawk during the time where Hawk was good at his job. Sox fans loved Hawk, Cubs fans couldn't stand him....until Hawk couldn't see anymore and got bad at his job. Kasper is nowhere near the Character that Hawk is though. I actually think I will grow to enjoy Kasper on the radio but It will be hard to wipe the years of Cubbie homerism off of him. There's no doubt that Len is good at his job.....can both things be true?
  9. Idk, I listen to games on the radio a lot because I drive for money. Maybe I'll grow to like him but he was absolutely insufferable as the Cubs TV announcer. I used the wrong word. I said only when I meant best. Everyone likes Pat Hughes too and to me listening to him is like watching flies fuck. So boring.
  10. Kasper is....uhh........insufferable. He was almost at Ron Santo levels of clownish insufferability to me. The best thing about the hire is that cubs fans are crying. Len is good at his job but I couldn't stand him.
  11. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/christian-yelich-turned-into-joey-gallo-for-a-year/
  12. No, but he got injured once. He looks like he made a smart move opting out, as a lot of pitchers got injured in 2020,
  13. Is Nick even pitching in 2021? Last I remember his elbow exploded a la Joel Zumaya.
  14. I don't think Jerry's wallet likes it. That's a deal I could live with though.
  15. Don't do it unless you know if you can continue to sign free agents.
  16. Yeah, and Senzel is yet another right handed bat.
  17. Grandal for Wheeler, sign Realmuto is a good idea IMO.
  18. I think that's gross. Isn't Garrett a reliever? Ew. While Senzel is a long term fit in RF, Don't you think you could get him for Dunning? Also I still like Zach Burdi. His stuff is back. He could easily still become the closer of the future for the Sox.
  19. They claim to have lost upwards of $130M in 2020. Their GM and Ownership are talking about cutting payroll.
  20. I really like him. Good call. Only 2 years of control and injury issues though. Also, I want to trade Stiever this winter. His value will never be higher and he's behind a lot of guys in the Sox system.
  21. Wheeler to the Sox makes a ton of sense. If the Phillies are desperate to shed money, then it shouldn't be that expensive. I'd start the call asking about Harper though. I'd ask the Phillies for 45M in cash that is not to be paid until the last 3 years of Harper's deal. That gives them 8 years to recover, and brings Harper's decline year salaries down to $10M annually. If they're willing to spend $25M on Springer, why not spend that on Harper, who is better? Yeah, it's a longer term commitment but it covers the last hole in the lineup and they only have to worry about pitching for years.
  22. Thirded. The Sox lineup is deep enough to deal with a RF platoon. If they're going to let Vaughn season in the minors for most of the season, which Jimmy suggests is the case, they need a DH as well and I think Schwarber would be a good fit there.
  23. If they got Bauer I'd first be shocked, then pleasantly surprised, and then when it sinks in, ecstatic. If they land Bauer it would completely change my opinion on Uncle Jerry for this window.
