I don't actually believe that the Sox went to 5/125 for Wheeler and I don't actually believe that the Sox went to 8/250 with 2 team options for Machado, or at least they didn't do it until his agent already had the $300M offer from San Diego. My belief is that the 7/175 offer that Bruuuuuce was reporting was the offer on the table to Machado until San Diego came in and offered $300M. Then they had to make an offer they 100% knew would be rejected to look like they tried to the fanbase.

an A level talent is one that costs 9 figures and is universally lauded as one of the best in the game. Grandal is the largest FA contract in the history of the team. They've never gone to 9 figures....ever and actually finished a deal.

I feel bad for watching football because I know what those guys are doing to themselves. It's the same thing. I choose to have cognitive dissonance because I enjoy consuming sports. I barely watch TV that isn't sports related.

Anything regarding an A level FA talent is bullshit until proven otherwise. Someone in baseball either enjoys fucking with Sox fans or its coming from the org because they think we're suckers. I think the latter.

I'm an idiot and naive for actually believing that the local and national governments would put public health over the ability for insanely wealthy people to make money. Shame on me. We shouldn't be playing sports right now. Sports are a reward for a functioning society.

I feel for guys like CWS and KrankinSox that actually believe the rumors that the Sox are going to spend at the top of the market each and every winter. My approach is to treat all of it as bullshit until either the ink is dry or they sign elsewhere. Remember what David Samson said about the carrot? That's what they do to the fanbase each and every winter. Some people should wise up and quit chasing the carrot every time Jerry puts it on the table. Eventually, fans should realize they're not getting the carrot. they might get some crumbs from the carrot, but they're not getting the whole thing.

Depends on what the Indians and Twins do. They're all really close. Right now, the Sox are ahead.

They were absolutely not transparent about Machado. They never made him a serious offer. It was more Daily Star bullshit. any number that didn't begin with a 3 and have 8 zeros attached was a non-serious offer. They made a high enough offer that they knew would finish in 2nd place, just like with A-Rod so they could say "we tried" This is another example of insulting the fanbase's intelligence and the utter contempt they feel for the fanbase. In fact, it's probably the best recent example of it. C'mon, fathom, you know better. Ownership with offseason rumors is the equivalent of an internet troll. They're fucking with us to prove that they can.

Maybe if ownership wouldn't continually insult the intelligence of the fanbase, and be transparent then nobody would be mad. The Sox offseason rumor mill is like the Daily Star and the info plants are like the Paparazzi. I seriously think that ownership as an insane amount of contempt for their fanbase. We're all idiots staying in an abusive relationship.

This is a really good fucking point, and I suggest that there's a catch all thread to discuss bullshit rumors about top of the market free agents being involved with the White Sox until Jerry either signs one, or is no longer the chairman of the White Sox. It's been 24 years since Jerry signed a top of the market free agent from outside the org. He's done it exactly twice in his 40 year tenure as chairman. (Fisk, Belle)

I think they pick and choose if it's in a client's benefit to do so. Agents have to do what's best for multiple clients.

Or it could have been conveyed to rival clubs through agents. This had to come from an agent, there's no way in hell other teams would know where the Sox budget is.

She had a point about the umpiring during Carlos's starts though. I actually enjoyed watching her argue balls and strikes on twitter. Not sure if it did Carlos any favors with the umps though.

I think injuries have fucked with his command to the point where it's possible that he just doesn't have the ability to throw enough strikes anymore.

If they land Colas, he can play RF, and rakes in the minors, that changes a lot.

I'd agree. If Rodon goes elsewhere and stays healthy and puts it all together good for him. It wasn't happening here.
