One minute the team is talking about World Series or bust, the next they aren't interested in the players most apt to get them there.  In my world, that is what is bizarre.

  • The failure is artificially limiting what your team is capable of to shame the other owners into not giving out contracts the owner thinks are unseemly.

  • Look at Ray Ray Run

Yup, this is my entire point. This team spent no money for YEARS under the guise that they were going to spend when the time came to supplement their core. They said such over and over. They made

Jeff Passan carrying water for owner Jerry Reinsdorf. Sad!

Good morning.

"As much as Chicago White Sox fans are frothing for George Springer to round out their dynamic lineup, he is extraordinarily unlikely to sign with Chicago for a number of reasons, sources told ESPN. Springer's market isn't lacking -- not even with him valuing himself at center-field prices. The White Sox don't need a center fielder, though, with the dynamic Luis Robert holding down the position; and paying center-field prices for a corner outfielder isn't the White Sox's style. Actually, paying nine figures for anyone isn't how team owner Jerry Reinsdorf operates. And with the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets among a large group interested in Springer, Chicago is likelier to seek a left-handed bat -- someone like Springer's old Astros teammate Michael Brantley."

Welp, this coincides with Jimmy's article about Joc. We can only hope they sign Joc and get another pitcher...

This isn’t surprising. It is ironic that the first national rumor of the meetings is not about which player the Sox might sign, but it’s about which player they won’t sign.  Joc has always made the most sense by far.

As much as you guys like to act like the best writers are part of some spy network sending codes to be deciphered in the media, Jimmy isn’t sending subtweets to fans by writing about a likely player.

Yep. I hope they really go after Bauer at least.

Something important for us to remember despite Hahns overtures is the white Sox are still very much the white Sox.

The great news is there is still a lot of ways to make this team great next year as it’s foundation is incredibly strong.

Passan said Jerry doesn’t do 9 digit offers.  I’m shocked at how many people think Bauer is a realistic option.

Winter meetings hasn't even started and we've reached this point. I'm not throwing in the towel yet on Bauer. If we don't get Bauer or Springer we'd be leaving a big opportunity on the table. Other teams will get better in the AL. We need to continously make smart decisions to stay at the top.

I’m fine with this. It would’ve been nice to sign him but he’s more of a luxury. We really don’t need to make a huge splash for RF this year. All we really need is someone that can play the position and a lefty that will hit for good numbers.

Bauer may be open to a shorter deal between 1 and 3 years. And the Sox offered Wheeler 125 last year. The offered Manny 250.

It was always going to be a lefty hitting RF.  That’s been obvious for months.

We offered Machado a 9 digit offer in 2019 and Wheeler a 9 digit offer last year.

I feel like we’ll be signing a B tier OF sometime this week and this story is just our front office reestablishing expectations with the fanbase.

That being said, saying Jerry Reinsdorf doesn’t “pay nine figures for anyone” in the year 2020 is one of the most pathetic statements I have heard in regard to a sports owner in my lifetime as a fan.  A $100M contract is nothing crazy in this day and age and acting like it is fucking ridiculous.

If you think he's taking a 1 year deal your living in fantasy land.

Maybe the worst thing to happen to the white sox this offseason may not even be LaRussa but Steve Cohen getting his sale for the Mets.

JR knew he had to batten down the hatches and let labor know whose boss, down to hiring a manager that will yell at them and tell them their place.

I don't think he will, but he has said he could. So 1 to 3 years is an option, maybe not a very likely one, but an option nonetheless.

Saying not a very likely one is an understatement.

I’m more surprised that he says Brantley is an option

Before they hired LaRussa I thought they were going to run Mazara back out there. This Springer or Bauer or the off season is a failure narrative is bizzarre.

Yeah the other part about them not wanting to pay Springer should be the least surprising thing. Brantley just isnt a fit.

I also wouldn't do that. The White Sox don't benefit from a 1 year deal. Why would they give up a 2nd rounder for 1 year of Trevor Bauer?
