Opinion on DH: Let Collins/McCann/Abreu/Grandal/Platoon RF/Mazara split it. There is no reason not to. Vaughn will be up next spring and Abreu will be the full time DH. There is no reason to absolutely clog that up. If Collins/McCann/Mazara/Platoon RF don't cut it, they can trade for a rental if they're contending. If they're not(shudder) then stand pat.

Listen: I'm not 100% against Keuchel. You have to get him at your price. Anything over 3 years and $50M and I'm out. I think he's going to get 4/80. Hard pass at that price.

Well sure. I just think there is too much risk with Bumgarner/Keuchel/Ryu and not enough reward to sign them to the deals they want. Any of the three could be the next James Shields. Save the flexibility.

I don't hate this deal. I've liked Mazara for a long time. I'd rather go sign Alex Wood and Rick Porcello than Bumgarner/Keuchel/Ryu.

They should try to lock up Giolito and Moncada. That would go farther than any FA signing they could make the next two offseasons.

I think they should stick to short term fixes via FA. It would be a more prudent allocation of resources to do that at this point to save the big bucks for re-signing Moncada/Giolito.

That's arguably a better package than the one the Sox received for Sale. At the time, Moncada was #2, and Kopech was #75 And Snell is going to cost 2 top 25 prospects? You're high. Cease, Vaughn and Basabe for Snell would be highway robbery by the Rays. You can get one of Cease or Vaughn, but not both.

He's a player that seems attractive, but if you actually look into the numbers, he sucks. I don't trust the projections that give him a 2.6 fWAR next year. I think that's generous. I think the 1.3-1.5 WAR he would have put up in 2019 over 190-200 innings is more realistic for the remainder of his career.

If they're not willing to hand out even a $100M contract, let alone a $150M contract, they were never serious about competing anyway. Let's go one step further-if they're not willing to hang in Strasburg/Cole land, they're not serious about competing. Top talent costs greater than $200M in today's market. If you're not willing to go there, then quit selling the fans a bill of goods. We can go spend our summers doing other things.

Maybe they're going to trade Moncada and Giolito after they do it again next year to gain players with more control. Probably would be their best shot of extending the window. They have 2 choices at this point....either extend Moncada and Giolito or trade them. It's unlikely they're winning anything during those guys tenure with the Sox. It sucks because those two are starting to scratch the surface of their immense potential, and they're probably going to peak elsewhere, just like Sale.

At this point, I'm down with trading Vaughn for a Pitcher. If it takes Vaughn/Dunning for Snell, do it. Nothing better is going to come up over the next two seasons. There's not a lot of hope unless Moncada/Giolito sign extensions.

Problem is, they were never going to spend the Cole/Strasburg money and Wheeler was never coming here. What else could they do really? There's really nothing they can do from this point. It's better to keep the payroll flexibility than to waste it on trash. See if you can get someone next winter.
