I'm with you. Javy Vazquez is a kink in ye olde WAR system. He sucked except for 2007. Every time he was on a good team, whether it was with the Sox or elsewhere, he folded under the pressure.
I'd take either DK or HJR on a 1 year deal, but that solves nothing.
I think both will get deals in the 3 year 55-75M range.
Hard pass on anything over a two year deal on either Keuchel or Ryu.
Because he's basically Mark Buehrle at this point in his career, and only Buehrle can do Buehrle things forever. Lots of HRs, hits, ground balls, very few ks, and sucks against good offenses.
Ryu is more injured and misses more time. Wheeler took longer than most to recover from TJS, but the 3 seasons he was healthy he pitched 180+ innings. Ryu hadn't done that since his debut season in MLB until 2019.
You can't count on Ryu for more than 15-20 starts.
I've always been a fan of Pineda, even when he was with Seattle.
I'd grab him anyway. If they get another pitcher they can get by with Giolito/Lopez/Cease/Wood/absolute dumpster dive.
Just my opinion, they absolutely needed to land Wheeler for any shot of competing in 2020.
Just my guess:
Ryu: 20-25M AAV on a 3-4 year deal
Keuchel: 18-22M AAV on a 3 year deal
Bumgarner: 20-25M AAV on a 4-5 year deal
I'd pass on all of them at that price, and Ryu/Keuchel is a HARD pass.
It was reduced to 60 games because he was able to prove that it was a diet pill and not a masking agent. He still got suspended, but he wasn't actually using roids.
Basically he got suspended because he was irresponsible with what he put into his body.
Hard Pass on Keuchel/Ryu unless it's something like 2/30. (no chance with Boras)
I'd be ok with signing either as long as it's a 1 or 2 year deal.
Both Keuchel and Ryu are Boras clients, right?
