The velo wouldn't be as big of a deal if he was still missing bats like he was in April and May. The problem is that he's gone from 92-94 in the early part of the season to 90-93 now.

He might cost Mena though. I'd try to get away with Thompson or Dalquist instead.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'd actually keep Burger as the 1B rather than Vaughn because I don't think Vaughn has enough power for the position nor walks enough. Burger doesn't walk either, but at least he destroys baseballs. Vaughn also has more value to other teams. Both kinda suck against RHP too. Vaughn is a really good hitter but I don't know if he ever hits more than 25 HR. I see him as a 16-22 HR type guy that hits .280, with most of his damage coming against LHP.

That is literally the only way forward. They're not getting anyone worth a damn without giving up someone that would hurt. I'm a big proponent of the flags fly forever mantra, but this team ain't it, now or if minor changes happen in 2023. Window is closed without a major retool now and in the winter. Yeah I like Kath as well, but again, you have to give to get. I'm leaving guys available for trade. If it was up to me I'd be selling and then hope that there's enough talent remaining to get the job done anyway. Replace Cueto with Martin, Abreu with Vaughn, sell Graveman and Lopez. Hope that you can cobble enough of a bullpen and that Grandal and Jimenez get their shit together. (Moncada already has)

I really like the types of players that Shirley and Paddy are targeting these days. Even if it doesn't result in much, they should keep doing what they're doing because the process is correct. Ceiling>everything is the correct way to go about it.
