  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Yeah, you have to realize there are just some things that you can't talk about with a public persona. Especially because you know your employer has already laid down the law here and targeted people much more important than yourself in this exact regard. This is inherently wrong. You should be able to voice your private political views, when not at work, without being fearful that you could lose your job. This is thought control to the nth degree. If organizations are so incredibly "image concious" that speaking publicly( whether on social media or calling into a political show on the radio) about politics, when not at work, is such a workplace "no-no" that you can lose your job there is something really really wrong with US corporate culture in general. The ramifications are incredible. The only thing that should matter is whether or not you are doing your job, not political ideology when off the job. I mean, this is your employer saying "shut up and do what you're told, otherwise starve to death" The only thing that should matter is whether or not you do your job. Obviously, extremely hateful ideology is an exception,(think Nazis) but just voicing reasonable political viewpoints on the web and losing your job is a slippery slope that leads to bad places, somewhere that we don't want to go in this country.
  2. I think Kopech has probably grown up a bunch since he was 19, and making stupid decisions. As long as he learned from his mistakes, he should be a better person and athlete.
  3. I rewatched the prequels, which everyone hates, and have come to the conclusion that they are not a s***ty as people make them out to be. To me, it makes sense that the Jedi who become Sith Lords are whiny insecure emo teenagers. They don't know their path in life. Everything is conflicted. It makes perfect sense to me.
  4. I'm staying out of this thread from This point forward, because if Hahn pulls this off he will have lost his f***ing mind so I don't want to even think about this possibility. I have said all that needs to be said.
  5. I don't like how quiet things are. Makes me think they are serious about this lunacy.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) I mean, we have absolutely zero idea what has been discussed, if the Sox are being used to drive up bargaining, which players were offered, how serious any of this is. Losing faith in the front office due to winter meeting speculation is laughable If there is any truth to these rumors, I disagree. I would feel much better if as soon as the 72 hr window non-existence tweet came out, then Hahn pulled his offer and there was a report that they were out on Machado. Zero reason to give up ANYTHING without an extension in place.
  7. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) If anything they should be selling off Abreu and Garcia figure out what they have for next year when it comes to prospects figure out a bullpen (move guys in and out) and get things squared away for next year. That's when the next wave of talent will happen Really. They're wasting time with "pie in the sky" ideas and should be focusing on transactions that actually help the talent pool.
  8. One can only hope that Angelos and JR are good chums and Angelos saves JR from his own inept FO. Hearing what I have today, I have lost an incredible amount of faith in the FO to see the rebuild through and do it right. They are trying a shortcut. If they don't think they can compete with other markets for Machado's services on the open market, then they should cross him out as an option and move the f*** on to other options, because bringing him here, I'm 99% sure will change nothing.
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) I honestly don't know what you're saying. Blah people=non-white people
  10. Like others have said, it makes zero sense that 1 year of Machado costs as much as 5 years of Eaton.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) You were so in love with it before! Lol. It made a small amount of sense with a window, without one it makes a negative amount of sense.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Orioles are still talking to teams about machado but sources say there’s no expectation/belief MM/agent would grant negotiating window for acquiring team at present. So would be 1 year player. Heyman Now I hate this.
  13. If they are discussing these guys I would imagine a 72 hr window is involved. It is the only way anything of the sort makes sense.
  14. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:21 AM) The Sox always seem to have a bunch of pitching prospects and are good at developing them. I'd have no problem giving a top prospect, or two, for a guy like Machado. Only if they get him signed. If the guy is intent on testing the market, it is pointless. At that point you're wasting assets for nothing.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:18 AM) You can already kinda tell they don't plan on offering the most money next year if their whole idea of trading for him is they can sell him on culture and stuff like that for a year. Then this is beyond stupid, it is insanity. $$$ talks, bulls*** walks. Why? This is a stupid White Sox idea that needs to be kilt now.
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:02 AM) So what are you comfortable with the Sox trading? Who is off limits? Off Limits: Anyone already on the major league roster or in our top 10. If they like some of our lower level guys, sure, go for it. I would be infuriated if they traded anyone super important to the rebuild.
  17. QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:37 AM) Kopech or Giolito is insanity. Pure insanity. Even with an extension. Kopech, Giolito, Hansen, Rodon all need to be off the table. Lopez as well likely. Cease and Dunning, sure, with an extension in place. But Kopech is a damn near fireable offense. Agreed. This is such a dumb White Sox move. Just when I thought the organization had come to their senses...............
  18. Now that Stanton is in Yankee pinstripes, I think it is almost a certainty that Machado will be a Yankee next offseason. The Sox are delusional if they think that they can convince Machado to sign here without testing FA. Giving up anything for him now is a mistake. It would certainly make me lose a ton of faith in the FO's ability to stay the course and rebuild correctly.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:03 AM) A) "All teams" are not going to offer 10/300. He's going to have a handful of offers in that range and will likely sign with whichever has the most money + opt outs + NTC. All things that the Sox are not known for. B) There's a 0% chance he signs an extension and skips free agency C) In the entire history of the Sox, they're never the 'desired' location and never will be. The only way we get guys is to overpay, which again, they don't do. D) We can make that offer 11 months from now and not give up a guy with 5+ years of control Trading anyone of note from this roster for a rental is such a huge risk that they shouldn't be making 1 year into a rebuild. Great Post. This x 1 million. I hope this is a ploy to get a head start on negotiations, where they make a strong offer contingent on a 72 hr window to get an extension done, it fails, Sox get to keep their pitchers AND get to talk to Machado's camp about what it would take to get a deal done next winter.
  20. This is so stupid. Why? Kopech or Giolito? Seriously? With no guarantees that he re-signs? Again, there has to be a 72 hr window otherwise forget it. IMO trading either of those guys for Machado, with one year of control, when he is almost certainly going to test the open market is a fireable offense. I would hope that either Kenny or Jerry are grabbing Hahn by his tie and telling him if he even discussed them with the O's that his job is on the line. But this is the White Sox, so they do stupid things from time to time. If they pull a stunt of this proportion, I won't be going to nearly as many games this season. This is contradictory and bulls***.
  21. QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 09:51 PM) I think our is only dumb by who they have offered. I would be ok if say out was Rutherford and Fulmer as the 2 headliners Even that is too much in my book. With that offer I'd have to get a 72 hr window.
  22. Do. Not. Like. Why? He's not going to sign an extension, so why? This is such a dumb White Sox move.
  23. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) I didn't see that as Dan saying he'll be below replacement level, just that he thinks Sox fans will expect a repeat of last year (although most of us don't). Steamer has him as a roughly league average player and I don't see his ZIPS projection as being much worse than that. Well I expect him to be Melky Cabrera from 2017, at best, so if much worse than that, then he would be below replacement level at that point given that Melky had a 0 fWAR last season, lol.
  24. Dan Szymborski of Fangraphs seems to think Avi will return to being a below replacement level player. If that is the industry-wide view, it seems the most the Sox would get for him is a bag of heavily used baseballs. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/winter-meet...ive-blog-day-3/
