Most exciting sporting event you ever attended.
zenryan replied to bigklita's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
1. ALCS Game 7 last year. Actually tripped and broke my ankle walking up to the stadium. Ankle swelled up big time by the time I got to my seats but it was so electric that I didnt care about my ankle anymore. But the 7th inning I could barely stand but it was still worth it. I've been to games at the Swamp in Gainesville, Miami/FSU games but nothing match the noise level after the final out was made. 2. Capital One Bowl a few years back between LSU/Iowa. Sitting on the 10 yard line on the Iowa side, things looked really bleak. Then Iowa hit that bomb and the Iowa fans went f***ing nuts. I was rooting for Iowa since I like seeing the SEC lose so that was fun. Those are my top 2 events. Last year's ALDS Game 1 was fun but nowhere near as exciting. My parents were at the Miracle on Ice game. Don't think that one will ever be topped. -

Stuart Scott is one of the top 3 reasons I hate ESPN. For a guy who has never played sports, they sure like to plaster his mug on every damn commercial and ESPN tv show. Every time he start yapping I just want to poke him in his good eye.

That whole Red Sox offense was probably on something. -
Time for the Sox to cleanse Colon from the club.

Sucks that Fedor is basically a puppet to M-1.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) The stadium is too small seating-wise. They might be losing out on some fans but they can just raise the ticket prices to offset it. -

The Zooker wants to have the 2010 Ill-Northwestern game to be held at Wrigley. That would be pretty cool. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4358676 -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) Im not so sure what yesterday's game proves. Sure the US lost in devastating fashion, but some times in soccer once a team goes up 2-0 the score can get out of hand because the other team brings to many people forward. The US defense failed to step up to set the off side trap properly and gave up some good chances to Mexico. As for the depth argument, I believe that about half the players on that team will be starting for Mexico in Azteca. On the other hand 1-2 may be starting for the US. The real shame here is that the US did not field a better team. I mean does Altidore and others not need the experience all of a sudden? I dont think any of the guys from yesterday's final will be starting in Azteca barring an injury. I'm pretty sure Altidore not playing had more to due with him trying to secure a spot with his club team. It'll be more important for his development for him to play a full season at the club level than playing 6 games in the GC and possibly pissing off his club coach and falling behind.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Get over it. I rarely post about US soccer. All throughout the tournament, the US was awesome and they rocked and yadda yadda but you get your asses handed to you and respond with "Congrats, your b-team beat out b/c team." GMAB. All throughout the tournament? Go back and read the last 4-5 pages and point out where everyone is saying how great the US has looked and "yadda yadda". Outside of the first game where myself and a couple of others said we looked nice then there isnt anything like that at all. That was 5 games ago. No reason to make s*** up.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) OK,so what you are basically saying is that playing for national pride means nothing since this doesn't count for nothing in the big picture, hmmmmm If the USA b/c team would've beaten Mexico's youngsters by that same score I highly doubt that would be the sentiment here, you got your asses handed to you at home, own up to it. Anytime its USA/Mexico on a soccer field then of course national pride means everything. Only reason this game was important was because of who played. If it was USA vs Costa Rica and if we won or loss who really cares. It wasnt a important tournament this year but since it was a loss to Mexico at home it stings. Since we rolled over and quit after it was 2-0 that is even worse. This was a very big win for FMF. It wasnt the "A" teams but the past few months have been tough for the Mexican side and winning this tournament generates a lot of good vibes going into the final stretch of WCQ's. Guess we'll find out Aug. 12 what today's match really meant for both sides.

But as bad as ESPN TV is, I do like their national radio shows. Scott Van Pelt and Cowherd. I really like Tirico when he did he show.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) 5-0? Ouch. Somehow I believe you wouldnt be posting on this game had the US won. So we basically have a mod trolling now.

Losing is one thing but to roll over like this is pretty pathetic. Ching was doing his best not to rip into these players during his post game interview.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) I just dont get what your argument is. What does it matter if Soccer isnt the #1 sport in the US? Since he thinks Americans shouldnt talk about soccer, maybe he shouldnt talk about baseball anymore since he wants to claim Serbia..

Have a week Bobby! Youre the difference in being 3 games out instead of tied for first right now. Biggest game of the year tomorrow night.

I'll watch live sports on ESPN or College Football Gameday/College Scoreboard Show. Thats pretty much it.

Goodell moves draft to Thursday, makes it 3 days
zenryan replied to lostfan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Goodell did a great thing last year by dropping the first round to 10 minutes per team. By the time the tv people analyze the previous pick and predict the next pick the 10 minutes is about up so I like that. But the first round still lasts 5 hours so moving it to primetime is just stupid. It's going to start at 730 so that means around 1am by the time it ends. This is dumb and I doubt the NFL does this for more than 2 years. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) I mean what LA and the MLS needs to realise though, is that playing for Milan is obviously so much of a higher standard than playing in America with a bunch of players either past their prime or not good enough to play in Europe. The World Cup is less than a year away and if Beckham's got a chance to make the squad (which certainly seems the case), then of course he is going to want to play with Milan. And Milan's still a pretty prestigous team, so it's not like many people round Beckham's age get to play still with a team like that. Bit rich of Donovan to say that, when he has deserted the MLS before also. I dont think MLS or the fans would really fault Beckham if he hadnt said how much he wants to play in America and how he wants to make soccer more popular here. He said all the things fans wanted to hear and at the first chance, he tries to strong arm the MLS/LA into letting him go to Milan. It is so obvious Beckham would rather play a full season in Europe instead of being in the MLS. Maybe he shouldve thought things through a little more.

MARK BUEHRLE PITCHES THE 18TH PERFECT GAME IN HISTORY
zenryan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Linnwood @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Only thing separating Buehrle from being the only pitcher in MLB history with two perfect games is a walk of Sammy Sosa. I wonder how many pitchers have thrown multiple No-No's and only faced the min. batters.
