Revisiting Hawk Harrelson
I used to like Harrelson, and I have nothing against a little homerism. Drysdale and Harrelson were great together in the early to mid '80's, and Paciorek and Hawk were real good too. But you need a balance between the broadcasters, and what we have now is Hawk and Hawk's number one fan, and it gets a little too much - a lot too much. The only time DJ disagrees with Hawk is if he thinks Hawk hasn't been enough of a homer. Like this: You know DJ, Bobby Jenks doing what he did in '05, that's one of the best jobs by a first year reliever I ever saw. Hawk, I disagree. It was the BEST job ever by a first year reliever. To hear these guys, no Sox player has ever made a bad play, or has ever failed to hustle. Just bad breaks, bad luck, tip your hat to the other guy, etc. etc., and Hawk is never wrong. So I said get rid of the Hawk, and bring in some fresh, HONEST, voices.

Baltimore claims Sean Tracey
QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) My money is on that Tracey will face the Sox at some point this season and the first batter he faces he drills. Then turns to Ozzie with a huge grin. But Tracey will miss whoever it is.

The deal is done.
There's a report in ProSportsDaily.com that MLB is giving cable one last shot at improving their offer to retain the out of market broadcasts, but it sounds like MLB BS to me.

Rowand to the Sox??
Here's the link. BTW, if it's much more than Boone Logan and say a Sean Tracy, I'm not so crazy about getting Rowand back. We already won in 2005, it's time to move on. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox09.article

Baseball Prospectus
Murphy on the Score today had someone from BP, and he said that their early projection for the Sox this year was... 72 and 90. Which struck me as a mite pessimistic, but there you have it. They thought our question marks in the outfield, 5th spot in the rotation, Uribe, and our tough division would add up to one hell of a bad year.

Sox on Veterans HOF ballot/results tuesday
Bill James has for a long time stated that Minoso is deserving of enshrinement, citing how many years he was delayed in reaching the majors because of color. I think Minnie has been hurt by the memory that some people have of him - an old guy hanging around to have an at bat in several decades, hiding what a dynamic player he really was. Kaat is also a very deserving candidate.

Jim Thome on the Oprah show this morning
Oprah's show today was about medical questions, mainly for women, that people rarely ask. About 15 minutes into the show, they talk about douches. The doctor says "the va-jay-jay is a self-cleaning oven." He adds that's why you don't want to put anything in it. Oprah and the audience starts screaming in laughter. They cut to the audience for a reaction shot, and it's Jim Thome, turning several colors of red. Oprah says something like how do you feel now, Jim? He holds his hands over his wife's ears, and says he's just trying to low key this. Really funny. They went to a commercial and came back for more of this and Jim said I'm really gonna get ragged on for this. In Chicago the show is repeated at 11:00 pm, so if you get a chance, catch the first 20 minutes or so, you'll get a big kick out of it.

Poll: KW media negotiations or bickering?
It's none of the above. Just KW answering questions with his take on things. What he says has no impact on negotiations. In fact, the negotiations impact on what he says. Buehrle in his last year with us - that can surprise no one who has a realist view of baseball's economics. Nor should it anger anyone - it just is the way things are. KW's job, and I think he's good at it, is to react to the economics and deal with them as best he can.

Crede Avoids Arbitration
QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) well i think they will still work on the multi-year deal. this signing was made just to avoid arbitration, which begs another question.... with amarus rameriz (sp?) getting the amount of money he did, A-Rod getting whats he getting, why wouldn't Crede be presumed to get more in arbitration? so why would boras and crede agree to this deal if they are looking to get the most money? or is there an deal ready to take place that required Crede to sign this deal then get a monster extension when the deal is made? Or does Crede really want to stay here? I hope its the last one. It's not just performance statistics that matter. The arbitration process also factors in years of service. If two players have comparable stats, one player's years of service often result in him getting more than a less senior player. I imagine Boras considered that.

Best(non-World Series) and worst all time White Sox moment.
Worst: There's a lot to choose from, but I'll go with having to for a day (I've researched but I can't pinpoint the date) in the Veeck era of the 1970's. He held a rock concert in centerfield, which combined with a rainstorm to destroy the outfield grass. The Sox had to cancel - or maybe forfeit, I'm not sure - the next weekend games, because centerfield was painted sand. I went out there and it was hideously unplayable. I think this was worse than Disco Demolition, because DD was impossible to anticipate, and only an armed militia could have stopped that. The rock concert was just bad planning and an attempt for some easy money, at the expense of baseball. Best: July 1, 1990, the last anniversary of the opening of old Comiskey Park. Sox beat the Yankees 4-0 without any hits. Hawk screaming "He drops the ball, Leyritz drops the ball" for one of three errors in the inning.

Notes from Phil Rogers' Sunday Tribune Column
"The word out of Houston is the White SOx tried to get the Astros to include outfield prospect Hunter Pence in the Jon Garland deal before talks broke down... The White Sox's interest in pursuing a deal with the Mets would depend on how highly they regard Lastings Milledge, whose production has yet to match his five-tool potential. They reportedly have asked for Mike Pelfrey, but the right-hander seems untouchable... Some interesting minor-league signings you may have missed: outfielder-DH Ernie Young with the White Sox." Is this the ex-Cub, ex-Brewer Ernie Young? This is the first I'd heard that we signed him.
