Things getting worse for Roger Clemens
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in The Diamond Club
Today's NY Daily News quotes the girl as saying she cannot refute the allegations. Clemens hasn't been hit this hard since JD took him deep in the Fall Classic. -
In case you missed it, Frank Thomas tripled off of Garland in the first. You can see it on MLB.com - bloop down the right field line got by Vlad, but a triple's a triple.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) Trade him for what? No hurry to do anything IMO. It's nice to have the problem of too much talent for now. Just get better and work on your game in Charlotte Jerry.....your time will come. He's 27 years old. His time better hurry. I thank God Ozzie recognizes there's no role for Owens on this team, barring injury.

You must remember that Konerko was a free agent after 2005, and said that Thome's acquisition was a big part in his decision to stay with the Sox. Now, you can argue if you want about whether Paulie has been worth it (I'm a big fan) but at the time, I think having Konerko and Thome was the better way to go.

#42 ~ Should the whole team wear it Tuesday?
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thome, Dye, Swisher, Guillen, Cox and Harold will be wearing 42, according to the Sox website. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) I didn't know his dad played for the cubs. On December 11, 1973 the Sox traded Steve Swisher, Ken Frailing, Jim Kremmel and STEVE STONE to the Cubs for Ron Santo. I heard Stone jokingly say recently it was a trade the hurt both clubs.

Who is the MVP of the Tigers Series
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hawkfan @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 12:53 AM) Cabrera's golden glove. Did anyone else notice Cabrera's actions when that Tiger rookie got thrown out going for the triple? First he was backing up Uribe, then he watched the hitter make the turn for third and Cabrera ran towards Uribe, I'm sure telling him that the man was going for 3rd. I mention this because so many times in the last couple of years uribe and gooch didn't seem to be able to help each other in these situations, and the relay man was left eating the ball. I'm also enjoying the fact that popups in short left field are being caught, a play Uribe had huge problems with. -
In today's SouthtownStar (formerly the Daily Southtown) it is being reported that this is a done deal. ITT haas donated half of the necessary land and has agreed to maintain landscaping. Metra will soon be looking for contractors to build the station. You can find the article in today's paper or at http://www.Southtownstar.com/news/880933,0...etraSox.article For you local fans, the article says that "eventually" Metra wants to reroute the Southwest Service Line onto the Rock Island line, which would make the new station available to Manhattan, New Lenox, Orland Park, Palos Park, Palos Heights, Worth, Chicago Ridge and Oak Lawn.

April Fools Day Thread: Joe Crede and Nick Masset dealt to SF
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is this thing actually happening? -
The Sox website says there are 3 new food items this year: a foot-long hotdog, being called the Super Comiskey; a cart for hot roasted peanuts; and a stand for barbeque pulled pork sandwiches, and beef brisket sandwiches. Personally, I would have named the foot-long hotdog the Harry Chappas, but that's just me.

QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) 1959 Sox lost the WS to the Dodgers. That off season they traded 24 year old Norm Cash who went on to hit 377 homers...a batting title (.361), a career .850 OPS along with 24 year old catcher, Johnny Romano who had a 7 year stretch with .800 OPS and a couple of all star appearances. In return they got 34 year old Minnie Minoso who was a fan favorite but was done by then...basically they got one mediocre year out of him. You'll be hard pressed to beat that. I can come close. Veeck also traded 14 years of Johnny Callison for one year of Gene Freese. Freese hit 17 homers and drove in 79 runs in 1960 while fielding .946 - just a butcher at 3rd. Callison went on to have 1757 hits, 226 homers, career slugging at .441, made the allstar team a couple of times.

QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) Yea but at least those other pitchers probably have other good pitches to compliment. He basically just said all he has is his fastball, and if I read that, im sitting fastball every single time. If his other pitches aren't good as well, you won't have much trouble. If you have control and command of the pitch, you can have a long career throwing fastballs. I have heard Hawk say many times that the best pitch in baseball is the properly located fastball.

Say "Hi!" to ARow, Drop off Crede, Pick up Cain

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) Its a bit strange. If I'm not mistaken, he is in his free agency walk year. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. -
My proposed idea: - Rickey Henderson...
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just because you're good at something doesn't mean you're good at teaching others how to do it too. Ted Williams could never teach people how to hit. Henderson has always been so full of himself (with good reason) that I'd be surprised if he'd be an effective teacher, or want to. Don't think coaches pull down big paychecks, either. -
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:35 AM) If Crede is healthy he will stay here and play in front of Fields. I have heard media types most recently on the CSN Chicaog tribune show talk about releasing Crede and crap like that. Fields could use a little more work in the minors to tighten his game. How exactly would this hurt him? If he wins the AAA triple crown then maybe I was wrong. Also how does another year AAA affect his service time toward free agency? If we get Fields for an extra year while playing Crede this year I am all for it. Service time for free agency is determined by number of days on the major league roster. Crede keeping Josh in the minors would delay Josh's progress to eventual free agency. As well as arbitration.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) I haven't lived in Chicago since back in the day. It seems people were back then afraid to take the El to the game lest they get mugged. Is that now a crock? is the El safe and sound? I would assume it is. It used to be if you went East of the park people were all scared they'd get mugged. Don't venture too far east and north of Wrigley Field at night.

I think there's another reason that Santo isn't in the Hall, and if this has already been posted, forgive me. Once Santo fell into the Veterans Committee voting procedure, his personality undermined his play. There was an extended time in 1969 during which Santo would celebrate Cub wins with a sprint down the left field line and click his heels. This got a lot of publicity. Back then you didn't do this sort of thing, and I think he pissed off a lot of his contemporary opponents. He also reamed Cub centerfielder Don Young after Young made a couple of crucial errors in a game against the Mets during the stretch drive. I think the people on the Vet committee have been influenced by Santo's behavior over the years. Politics plays a large role in the Vet committee's deliberations.

3/7/08 Game A - Sox @ LAAAAAAAAAAA, 2:05pm CT

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) Yeah if a double header like this were to happen in the seaons I'd be pretty pissed off. What, last July 6 didn't qualify? Final score in that double header was Minny 32, Sox 14. And it really wasn't that close. -
Score reports just now that Singleton is going to Baseball Tonight. Stone doing radio analysis.

I hope their World Series rings are ok. Wait......

This is from Reifert's latest blog: "On Friday, I travelled to Highwood with a former player and his wife to check out the newest sculpture. It is always unnerving to see yourself in clay (so I'm told), and it was fun to watch his and her reaction. As emails of the sculpture were sent out to children, the couple laughed at the positive responses. Unveiling is tentatively scheduled for July 20 for this year's addition to the outfield walk of fame." My guess is Harold.

Moments ago the Score said we signed Dotel to a 2 year contract 5.5 million per year.
-
If this has been covered elsewhere, sorry, but other than Hoyt Wilhelm, is Goose the only former Sox and Cub in the Hall?
-
ESPN News today is saying that the Reds are confident they will obtain Bedard.

Well, it's looking like the Sox are one of those teams. When it's third down and 20 yards to go, gaining four yards isn't enough. I'm in agreement with those who say we need to blow this thing up, and I think we should have started before we resigned Dye. I think we're gonna be spending 100 million dollars on a club that's gonna hover a little above or below .500, and that's just stupid management, to me.
