  1. I saw a crawl on ESPN news - broke his finger. I wonder if they'd be interested in Gooch.
  2. Extending Dye would be as stupid a move as could be made. Thanks JD, but see ya.
  3. I dunno - AJ gets booed in towns where he hasn't done anything.
  4. I'm glad it wasn't life or career threatening, but can you imagine the media and out-of-town reaction if it had been AJ whose bat hit Redmond? It would be on ESPN news every half hour, they'd bring up pro wrestling, and the next time AJ went to Minny he'd need an armed escort.
  5. From today's Arlington Heights Herald. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=328861
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) Randy Wolf got his ass handed to him today by the Braves. So your daily Buehrle/Contreras possible suitor update: Randy Wolf (LAD): 3 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 K Jason Vargas (NYM): 3.1 IP, 11 H, 9 ER, 2 BB, 2 K Wellemeyer (STL): 3 IP, 7H, 4 ER(6R), 1 BB, 0 K Feierabend (SEA): 1.1 IP, 8 H, 10 ER, 2 BB, 0 It's a great night on the trade front. Rumor in today's LA paper that Wolf is headed to the DL.
  7. Cedeno's career is somewhat similar to Brian Anderson's. The Cubs tried to give him the job at short, and he failed to the point that they traded for Izturis. They also gave Cedeno a shot at second, and wound up with Todd Walker and during the off season spent a good deal of money on the guy from Texas. I gotta think there's a better alternative than Cedeno.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) Who is going to close the games next year. Give me a name. Just saying, it needs to be blown up. Sure thats easy. Who is his replacement. It doesn't matter. We're gonna suck next year whichever way KW goes. If you completely retool (whicb I think we should do), go with kids, boom, we're gonna suck. Count on Pods, Erstadt, Terrero, Gonzalez, Uribe or his replacement, Richar, Thome another year older, our pen....we're gonna suck. Keeping Jenks on this club just makes them a better looking fourth place club.
  9. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) After playing volleyball at the beach all day yesterday we walked over to Chipotle on Rush Street. Jerry Reinsdorf walked past us. Was kind of cool. Did you trade glances, or does he have a no-trade policy?
  10. The Los Angeles Times reported the rumor, but the LA Daily News said it wasn't true. You can find both links at ProSportsDaily.com
  11. Pods is the Iron Horse of White Sox baseball. This latest injury stopped his consecutive game streak just shy of Cal Ripken's.
  12. Because: 1. If you're going to rebuild, then go at it with a vengeance. Bobby should fetch several (3) high quality prospects. 2. If you're going to rebuild, then you won't need a closer for 2 or 3 years, cause you're not going to be competitive. By that time Bobby may still be good, maybe not, but by then he'll be heading to free agency himself. 3. When we're good again, you'll be able to get a closer, either through your own system, or via free agency. They're generally around every so often. Don't get me wrong. Bobby has been terrific for the Sox.
  13. So, Bobby, feel free to strike out Aaron Rowand, for all those bloops he let fall in front of him when you were pitching.
  14. One thing that could lessen Buehrle's trade value is named Roy Oswalt. If Houston decides to reload, and there was speculation on ESPN this morning that they might, Oswalt would be a more sought after pitcher, I would think. So if you want to maximize the return, don't diddle around.
  15. Sorry. I posted the wrong article. Here's the right one. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/whitesox.asp?id=327839
  16. If Buehrle is traded: To Mark, thanks. You have been a great asset to the Sox, a terrific teammate, and a class act all the way. We wish you nothing but the best, and all of us will remember 2005 and your contributions to bringing a World Championship here. To the Sox, time to move on. That means trade anyone who can get you younger talent. Don't go halfway on this, like a guy with one foot on the dock and one foot in the rowboat. As other posters have said, it makes no sense to have Bobby Jenks on a team that will not be in competition for several years. If it is a mistake to trade Buerhle ( I'm not so sure), the way to compound the mistake is to think you can just fine-tune this team a little.
  17. Congrats 35 - next stop Cooperstown.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) So what if it was? You see this all the time. Big freaking deal. On another note - if you look further down you will notice they say St. Louis made an offer - Anthony Reyes, John Rodriguez, and Bryan Anderson for Buehrle. Why the hell would the White Sox want this package? I don't get it. Because you can't have too many Brian Andersons in your organization?
  19. This all conjecture, but perhaps Buehrle's agent has already told KW that no matter what, he will not sign a multiyear contract until he's a free agent this winter. If so, maybe KW is making it easier on Buehrle by letting teams know there's no conditional deals to be made.
  20. According to the Score's update at 10:30 AM. No names mentioned.
  21. Well, if you want some support for your optimism, here you go: http://www.dailysouthtown.com/sports/arvia...231ARD1.article Two things: my uninformed opinion is that the source for this story is most likely Buehrle's father. From the context it's not his agent, it's someone close to Mark and I think his dad occasionally talks to the media, so that's my guess. Second thing - I don't believe that Mark is gonna sign with us.
  22. Rogers has flip-flopped on the Garcia and McCarthy trades several times now. If you searched the Tribune archives, about 6 weeks ago he wrote a column saying 'I admit I was wrong to criticize these moves.' Screw him.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) It won't be Sweeney that's called up....watch J. Jones be our starting RF on Monday. Shoot me. Shoot me now. I won't move, so you'll only need one bullet. Unless it's a Sox reliever doing the shooting, in which case, you better use a grenade.
  24. This should draw some comment. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox23.article
