Barry Rozner on ARod / White Sox
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Generally Boras takes a lot of time before his guy signs. The A-Rod leaving Texas to the Yankees took a lot of time if I recall correctly. That could weigh against him coming to the Sox, because I would imagine KW/Jerry would like an early answer so they can go with plan A, B or C. Jerry has a penchant for the big name guy - they took Seaver in the compensation pool in the '80's, Bo Jackson and Albert in the '90's and maybe he would like to go all in for A-Rod now. In the short term, the next 3 or 4 years, the money part could be worked out. The Konerko and Garland idea (I apparently can't call it a rumor) for Kochman, Figgins and Shields saves a lot of the dough, you wouldn't have Uribe around for his $5 million option, and you'd have a pretty strong lineup with Figgins leading off and playing center, it seems to me. Starting pitching is gonna be a puzzle, no doubt, if they trade Garland. If Arod leaves NY, it just wouldn't shock me to see him with us. -
QUOTE(spiderman @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) Considering that Stoneman made the decisions for the Angels, I would assume that this is the puts to rest that Terry Boers has any inside knowledge on this rumor he made up ? First of all, how do you know that he made it up? Second, early in this thread some people thought that Stoneman's refusal to trade younger players for older players was the reason this trade would not be made. If that fact is true, then his leaving would make it more likely that it would be made. But, who knows - time will tell.

Don't forget the ex-hometown discount. Might bring him down to $83.5 million.

A little help - What's BAPIP?
-
I was listening to Boers & Bernstein at 4:30 today, and Boers said that this deal is being discussed by the Angels and Sox: Konerko and Garland for Figgins, Kochman and Shields. FWIW.

No. Too many holes, too many question marks. Contreras, who knows. Danks still unproven (but promising), Vazquez in and out career wise, the 2007 team has had no bench, Thome is getting older, you hope Dye and Konerko can remain productive, and the best thing you said was I won't bother about the bullpen. That kind of is how this whole mess started. We can spend our way into mediocrity (mediocrity is a step up right now), but we won't be a good baseball club in 2008.

The biggest comeback in White Sox history

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) World Series Game 1? What about it? I think you mean game 2, but you could argue game 3 - losing 5-0 to Oswalt on the road. -
Is this the worst year in your Soxfandom?
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 11:33 AM) 1988-89 sucked a lot worse. The Sox were awful and had no talent. At least this team has some talent. Absolutely right. The first half of 1989 was the worst team I saw - there was a home stand I remember when they never had a lead. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) By the way, I still say that the Sox could also go with Fields/Dye in the corners and just sign someone like Willie Harris (which I think would be a smart move as he could be your top of the order guy, steal bases, and play a semi-decent d in center, plus he won't cost near as much as Rowand). Boy, an outfield with Fields in left and Dye in right is gonna need two centerfielders.

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. He is terrible in left field. If you are going to suffer that kind of defense, the player should be a power hitter, not a punch and judy hitter. 2. The Sox did not dump Ordonez because they thought he was injury prone - he had a severe injury and would not let the Sox look at his medical records. That made him a huge risk for the Sox. 3. You don't platoon two lefties. Pods, thanks for '05, but we have to move on. Putting Fields in left until the Crede situation is resolved is a far better option for the '08 Sox. -
Well, if they get Gagne, Delcarmen should be more expendable, I'd think.
-
Both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald say that the Dye deal is becoming more likely. Although neither paper specifies the offer, they both say Pena is a likely part of the deal, and one paper said that Boston is thinking about trading Delcarmen, formerly not available.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:43 AM) Since when does JD have a NTC? I read in the paper last week he has a limited NTC - 6 teams I think.

McDonald's has those 1-888-Go-McWakeup things, and one features Nancy Faust. And it's free.

My official do not trade Dye sale
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to harfman77's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Trade him. Thank him for his years of service and his role in '05 - but he's on the downside and will be looking for a raise and multiple years. Not a fit for us. -
I didn't see this anywhere else, so I thought it might be interesting. To me, Shaffer got fired, and is firing back. Me, I'm glad he's gone. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxnt24.article

You know, if they did call up Floyd for game 2, it might give us all a case of deja vu all over again. He started game 2 against the Twins - the day the earth spun out of control.
-
Harrelson said Javy would start game one, and undecided would start game two. My guess is undecided will be replacing Day on the big league roster.

The .198 Hinske overshift, Ozzie's brilliance at work
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The positioning of our infielders -- kind of a bench coach's job, isn't it? I'm not defending Ozzie here, I'm just saying don't forget Cora on this one, either. -
QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) It is pricey.. Best bet is to have a the sandwhiches.. I never had to pay, always eaten on cop account there. example.. 10beers nachos hotwings 5 sandwiches was around 120-130 range if I remmeber correctly. We go up have a beer or two.. eat downstairs, get a brat on the concourse much cheaper and larger portions. Thanks. I'm just going up there to take some in-laws who've never had a chance to see it....hot wings sounds good tho.

Can anyone of you give me an idea about the food available in the Stadium Club bar - not the sit down restaurant - what they have, what's good, how pricey is it, etc? Any information about your experiences there would be helpful. Thanks.

BoSox Interested in Jermaine Dye
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I hope that the White Sox would disregard JD's preferences if they want to move him somewhere. They need to do what's right for the team, first and foremost.
