QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) I just think it's a huge mistake unless you are removing debt ceiling forever. Because it's such a ridiculous that what you are 'giving up' is allowing the government of the country to function. How much debt is too much?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) They sure as hell count if you ever actually need to use your insurance. Agreed. More of a comment that should have probably been green.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) Her deductible and out of pocket went up 4000% for same coverage under Obamacare. Deductibles don't count. That's how a s*** sandwich tastes like a reuben.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) So are you sure this doesn't have anything to do with millions of people trying to access the website at the same time because they're trying to sign up??? I am referring to it being fixed tomorrow. I am sure it was overloaded. Not saying anything about the site or the service it offers. Something this large and complicated will be hard to fix in 24 hrs. That's all i was saying. I would feel the same for a comparable problem with a private company. As an aside, I was watching the ABC news last night and they mentioned that these exchanges do not include the deductibles in the pricing of the plans....Is that true? And why would that be the case?
-
The exchanges, which went online Tuesday morning, have been riddled with technical difficulties in states across the country. The administration has said that the glitches consumers are encountering will be ironed out by Tuesday afternoon. If you believe this I have some Detroit municipal debt to sell you at par. GMAFB... This is why what the Republicans are doing is assinine. Let this get implemented and let it fail from its own weight.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Do a quick check about corporate profits and then reread your post. Corporations are experiencing all time record profits, and unlike the promises that have been made, they are not hiring or increasing wages. The economy for businesses has never been better. You may recall the argument that we need to cut taxes on the wealthy and corporations and they will reinvest those profits in hiring more workers and increased salaries. That has not happened, which is why I believe those profits should be taxed at a higher rate to encourage hiring. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/04/business...ed=all&_r=0 So the Fed keeps rates extremley low and tries to manufacture a recovery via higher asset prices, and a result of that policy is higher corporate profits. And you want to tax those profits? These profits are not due to increased revenue, they are a result of low interest rates being used to float debt to buy back stock to increase EPS. Like everything with this gov't this too is phony. And for these numskulls to say there is no food inflation is insane. Have you seen the size of a Pringles can lately? About 1/3 smaller than the old one but the same price. There is no reason to increase the workforce..

What happens to states' budgets when the federal medicaid subsidy ends in a few years?

Massive overnight shooting at Southside Chicago park
Cknolls replied to knightni's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) This is hitting all parts of the city. Not to the magnitude of the shooting last week. If Rahm can get money from the American people, this all can be covered with a saturation of police coverage. Much Better! -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 02:04 AM) Is it a disaster because nobody is cooperating? The Rebubicans are fighting it every way possible? One thing is certain. Everybody needs health care and the system before Obamacare was OK for the rich and s***ty for everybody else. Something needs to be done. It didn't help these govtment officials are so stubborn. I was reading this week Lawrence Memorial Hospital would have been given 1.2 million this year or something had Brownback not declined the boost from Obamacare. Instead they are getting something like 2 million dollars less and are in dire straights because of Brownback. WTF is going on? People in this state elect Republicans no matter what. They don't even know the issues or the track record of these s*** candidates. You know what? The Dems do the same s*** in this state. How can we stop this madness?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) A couple days late, but zero Republicans accepted the invitation to speak at the anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Equality. http://thehill.com/homenews/house/319239-b...ton-anniversary Does that include Sen Scott?

Absolute disregard for a human being. What a waste of oxygen. Was it hot that night. Is that why they killed an 88 year old veteran. Beats working. Blame whitey. Wouldn't even be a trial if I found them. Slow and painful in a wood chipper sounds about right, one appendage at a time. Hey al and Jesse who can we shake down? f***ing silence from those black s***bags.

Original quote: “If we don’t deepen our ports all along the Gulf – places like Charleston, S.C., or Savannah, Ga., or Jacksonville, Fla. – if we don’t do that, these ships are going to go someplace else and we’ll lose jobs.” Here’s the quote after a member of the elite Associated Press Obama Gaffe Repair Team sprang into action: “If we don’t deepen our ports all along the Gulf – (and in) places like Charleston, S.C., or Savannah, Ga., or Jacksonville, Fla. – if we don’t do that, these ships are going to go someplace else and we’ll lose jobs.” Keep blowing the smartest President of all time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) No one needs healthcare. It just makes people lazy. That's exactly what I said. Why is it retires cannot pay any premiums toward their healthcare?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) You can still go out and get your own 401k plan, and if its underfunded its because you didnt put enough away to retire. Pensions make zero sense to me, we will pay you because you worked for X amount of years? A wealthy retirement isnt a right. And we will give you healthcare for life for free and 3% cola every year regardless if CPI is 1%. , 2% or negative. Not our problem how to pay for it. We deserve it.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) Why should pension plans project returns that are so far below the rates that have been observed historically? You ever read a disclosure on any investment fund: past performance is no guarantee of future return. Unless you are a pension fund run for gov't employees. It is a scam that hides the true cost of pensions. Nothing else.
-
Maybe all the state and local govt's will stop using accounting fraud when compiling pension obligations. Rates of return need to be lowered to a more reasonable 4-5% and so to does the discount rate. But if then no politicians would get elected because people would see what a crock of s*** they've been selling hem. But I blame all the gov't workers for actually believing the nonsense these people spew. We get what we elect. A far as I'm concerned I hope it happens here sooner than later so we can be more realistic in our benefits for everyone.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Michigan courts order the bankruptcy filing withdrawn because it's against Michigan's constitution. Next stop feds? But she is sending a copy of her well thought out ruling to Narcissus. He will save the day.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) I am saying that Martin was going home minding his own damn business when Zimmerman reported him to the police for being black, followed him for a period of time and then chased him on foot while armed with a deadly weapon. I call bulls*** that anyone actually thinks this is a 100% legitimate, rational course of action for an adult to take. I call bulls*** on him reporting him as black. He was asked by 911 what race/color. He did not say I am reporting a black kid.......
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) So are you making the argument that although neither was doing anything unlawful, they were still both equally at fault? I am saying Martin could have gone home and nothing happens. But he chose to hide and the rest is history. You guys are saying he is a big man and a puss but yet fast enough to "chase" Martin and catch him. No way. I call bulls***.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 04:27 PM) If Zimmerman's statements are to be believed, he had plenty of time to do so but was unable to do so because he wasn't able to overpower the kid. His statements to the police was that his head was struck on the ground >20 times before he pulled the gun. Personally I don't believe that, but if that was the case he would have had time to try to say something or fight back, but was unable to because of the kid's fighting prowess. If I had to guess, I'd say the kid surprised him, hit him, knocked him down, maybe even hit his head forcibly on the ground once or twice, and then Zimmerman pulled the gun and fired. There might have been some rolling around to explain the other witnesses "sights" of different guys on top, but it's hard to call any of those statements credible. He had the injuries of a guy who got hit, went down, hit his head on teh ground in the fall, and then took the shot. Well thank you Cyril Wecht. Any thoughts on the single bullet theory.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Because he did and it's documented in the 911 call. And he caught him? in a chase? you guys are really soft in here if you believe this tub of goo caught a 17 yr kid. Please someone answer WHy didn't Martin just go home?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) Now you're excluding context. He wasn't simply walking down the street. He was following somebody for several minutes, including chasing after them on foot once the person began to flee. Everyone keeps saying Zimmerman chased after him. Then why in the hell couldn't Martin make it home? Why did he hide? Surely it wasn't because Zimmerman was going to run him down before he reached his father's apt. Seems like Mr. Martin, who was a little high at the time, and had a history of fighting, was looking to kick the crackers ass. He did and got a little more in return. When they make following someone illegal, then I will support a conviction for Zimmerman.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) Yet murders are down like 25% from this point in 2012. Last year they blamed the murders on the unseasonably warm weather. I wonder if this year they will credit the cooler weather with the decline in killings. Has nothing to do with weather. Animals will be animals until they are all dead or locked up. These people have no conscience. Give them all guns so the good ones have a chance.
