  1. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-12-11/-...y-giveaway.html I think they need to raise taxes just a little bit.
  2. Baseline budgeting is the problem. Fix that and we can start to have honest budgets in this country. Calling a cut in the rate of change in spending as an actual cut in spending is ludicrous. But these guys in Washington are clowns, so I expect nothing less from them.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 08:30 AM) An extra delivery truck = $800 million in debt? Wtf are you talking about?
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 06:51 AM) Poor management, not union intransigence, killed Hostess What work rule changes were implemented? He fails to list them...Probably because they weren't any...Two trucks delivering bread and twinkies from the same distribution center is not efficient. But union work rules say its a good idea. Probably would save on truck wear and tear too, no?
  5. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/report...ael_663502.html This opens up another can of worms.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) As someone who is Jewish, this whole situation concerns me. The Muslim extremists will stop at nothing to kill Israelis and destroy the entire Jewish race there. Meanwhile, you have the stubborn Israelis who refuse to give up any land. It's just a bad situation, where no one is right. With respect to Gaza, there are no Israelis occupying that land, right?
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 11:38 AM) For now, until someone buys them up and re-opens them and needs to find a skilled labor force to staff them. Without the same work rules for sure.
  8. Word out of Washington is s***heads trying to kick can into 2013, i.e. sequestration. Futes rally. Looks like opportunity to once again sell a rally. While this selloff is blamed on tax selling, I believe in addition to that, there may be a large hedgy going belly up. Too much complacency in the VIX. Big moves, i.e. crashes do not occur from overbought mkts. And everyone on the boob tube is saying this mkt is oversold. Bingo. that is when it is most dangerous. I think we test 1322-25, and if no bounce there we test 1270-75 area.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) That's not the point I'm making, and it's pretty silly to take it that way. The point I'm making is an anti-austerity point that we should not be obsessed with budget deficits in the middle of a recession precisely because unemployment (much more important) is low and interest rates are essentially free for the government. Now is the time to borrow to get our economy going again and to do things we should be doing anyway like infrastructure. Nowhere in that argument is the claim that interest rates will never rise or that we should run deficits in perpetuity (though Modern Monetary Theorists would argue that we should). It is an argument about priorities. We are not in a recession. They say it ended a couple years ago.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 5, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) Note my signature below. I will have a Google Spreadsheet of all the Presidential Exit Poll data as it comes out. In my experience, exit polls rarely differ from more than 1-2 points off the final results. So, if an exit poll shows one candidate by more than 2.5 points, it's a very good indication that candidate will carry the state. With the exception being 2004, right? I think the exit polling that year was horrible.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) The electoral college is s*** and should be abolished. But it's existence has an impact on the national vote totals. You can't assume that what happens on Tuesday is the same voting pattern that would emerge in a true national vote. Proportional electoral votes would at least give R's a chance in CA and D's a chance in TX, to obtain some electoral votes in those respective states. And you would at least see a national campaign with both parties actually interested in visiting states they now write off because of winner take all. If a candidate wins a congressional district, he wins the electoral vote for that district.
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 4, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Your posts are as productive as tits on a bull. Post this s*** in your own thread.
  13. Staten Island= 9th Ward Obama= Bush Bloomberg=Nagin Media = Invisible....After all there is an election they have to win....
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 3, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) Yeah. It's always different. Mainstream media ..rug....
  15. He strikes again! http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2012/11/biden-2016.php
  16. OBAMA: “WE LEAVE NOBODY BEHIND” A dead ambassador would say differently if he could you lying piece of bleep.
  17. Hey regardless what you think about Rasmussen, give the man some props for giving us ESPN.
  18. Is there a bigger asshole in public life? “Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?” — Vice President Joe Biden to Charles Woods, grieving father of slain Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, during a memorial service at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Obama by 3 percentage points, and with around 300 electoral votes. I will take the exact opposite. Romney with 300+ Electorals and 4+% popular vote advantage. I see Obama winning PA and NV.
  20. Why are you both conflating Chicago with Chicago metro?
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) For now, the second part is a pipe dream. The first part is very realistic and a LOT of problems trace back to it. That is if enough people are aware that it can be done... We've got people currently in Congress who actively oppose it because it is in their political interest to do so (hint as to where most of them come from: look at which SCOTUS justices voted for citizens united, and against, and think which presidents they were appointed by) Do you think the Dems from Chicago would approve of a new system? There are how many Dems from Illinois in Congress? 7 IIRC. That is asinine. CHicagO has a population of just under 3 million and they have 7 reps. By my count that is three too many. The redistributing should be limited to no more than a few miles from the previous boundaries. This nonsense with districts running fron Wrigley Field all the way out to Hinsdale and Burr Ridge is just silly. I am now represented by Lipinski, which isn't so bad really because he is probably the only Dem I would vote for in the Illinois delegation. But Rush and Jackson should be running against each other and the city should lose that seat. How can anyone justify The number of seats Chicago has in the US Congress?
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) If you reallycare somuch about intelligence failures, I seriously hope you didnt vote for Bush after 9/11, Iraq etc. People make mistakes, who cares either way. If that is the reason you dont want vote for someone, so be it. Thank you Jethro Tull.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Without ~details~, who will ever know?! edit: seriously, they were unclear on this for a bit, but Obama said it was a terrorist attack on 9/12. Period. To say otherwise is to lie. edit2: is there a non-Daily Caller-type site that has a summary of these statements? I haven't really been following this dumb "they blamed a video!" non-issue. That is my point. If they felt/knew it was terrorism, why send the UN ambassador out five days later on every Sunday morning show to say otherwise.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) It is a mystery, much like what "act of terror" he was talking about. We will never know! And he called it terrorism the next day,but yet his UN ambassador came out five days later saying what???
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) I know, without specifically addressing the details of which "act of terror" he is talking about in a speech about the terror attacks on the embassy, it is impossible know what he meant. And he continued to blame the video, why?
