With Boston supposedly being interested I'd gladly take Andrew Miller back who I'm seeing may be on the block. A legit LH reliver to pair with Petricka/Putnam/Jones/Webb for the future would be real nice.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) 2 things to think about, 1. with the "A's" getting 2 pitchers for the stretch run, teams may feel compel to do the same. 2. the sox may will need a good rotation to help getting the momentum going for the sox fans and all. unless teams offer a crap load to entice the trade, who cares. we keep him. plus JR is not telling the brass to sell. If all goes as planned the rotation could be very good next year....I really wanna see Sale-Q-RH FA-Danks-Noesi and then eventually Sale-Q-RH FA-Danks-Rodon. That's a playoff caliber rotation right there.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) On the other hand, what does holding onto Danks accomplish? We're QUITE unlikely to be competing for the division next year if we trade Ramirez...the other alternative is to spend a ton of money on catching, bullpen, the back-end of the rotation, at least one outfield position and DH. Even if that "ton" of money was there to spend, there aren't enough attract FA targets (especially at catcher) to make chasing after a select group of players worthwhile from a cost-benefit perspective in terms of intelligent resource allocation. Again, like Rock and others have said countless times....The Sox don't need to cut payroll....At all. If they traded Danks theyd have 28 million on the books for next year. With him they're around 45. As you say there aren't a ton of worthwhile FAs out there so why get the payroll down to 28 mill? Peripherals be damned, Danks has been a great pitcher for us this year and his salary isn't going to prevent them from going after yet another starter AND a bat or 2.....If those signings work out and Rodon does end up getting fast tracked, it's very possible they could compete next year. At the very least keeping Danks another year makes him more valuable at next years deadline when he becomes cheaper.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) There you go. Even though the Yankees would SEEM to need a left-hander with the subtraction of CC Sabathia from the equation, they'd still prefer to take a smaller risk of $5 million on McCarthy vs. roughly $20 million for Danks in salary. Or maybe there wasn't even talks to begin with....Or the Sox were asking for "too much" because they don't really need to deal him.

Hopefully the reports a few days ago about Melo making his decision this weekend are true....I'm ready for this to be over so we can get on to Kevin Love rumors =p -
My guess is Dunn gets traded to an NL team looking for LH pinch hitter. He still has an OPS over .800 vs RHP so that could be valuable to some team looking for some help against RHP. I wouldn't hate seeing him stay just because there's no one that needs his playing time so keeping him isn't really a detriment to the team.

When do you fire Robin?

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) Always a good idea in the 9th with this talented, experienced bullpen. And who wouldn't pull one of the best hitters in MLB out of a tie game for a pinch runner! I've seen it many a times. Hell I (And 1 or 2 other posters in the game thread) wanted to see him pinch ran for when he first reached base. It was a "win now" move that didn't pan out. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) Danks contract would be great to get rid of, he will be hurt again sooner rather than later.................some decent prospects spin the wheel make the deal. Dude has been hurt once in his career I believe. Such a silly statement.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) Rondo and lots of picks I suppose is they find a 3rd team to take Rondo.. I'd rather take a shot on Mirotic/Butler and the 2 picks. -

Ya man, what an awful decision to bring in a LHP to face Cano...Managers shouldn't play matchups at all....Dreadful. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) Matt Lindstrom was hated by this board. When he got injured there were several posts indicating it was actually a blessing. I will say it again, if losing Jones and Lindstrom makes your bullpen the worst in baseball, it wasn't anywhere near average to begin with. FWIW, I was not one of those guys. Lindstrom wasn't great but he wasn't awful either. Losing him did indeed hurt. Jones was also a big lose since he has been really solid at getting LHers out. If he was still around they wouldn't have had to use Downs and Surkamp (who before today had actually looked good as loogy) that much. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:18 PM) Let's face it. Rock is primarily right concerning Robin. This is more on Kenny and Hahn somewhat. Robin's roster is so bad no manager would have any better record than Robin's that is for sure. Pretty much all the relievers are equally horrific when trying to save a game. I may think Robin is a clown, as well, but his record this year speaks for itself. Not bad for the roster. I liked all the signings in the pen, they just haven't worked.....Not only did Jones and Lindstrom go down but Downs and Belly haven't preformed like expected. In todays MLB where relievers are largely hit or miss from year to year those 2 had been fairly consistent. -
Well then, had no idea where this was going....Wasn't expecting a sex angle....was kinda waiting for a presidential angle.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) You think that was the reason they lost? People will find any reason to blame Robin for a loss.....Had he left Jake in there and he gave up a hit I'm sure people would point out Canos splits. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) It's been a while since Dunn hit a home run, hasn't it been? Is he in one of those Dunn slumps? Haven't heard much from him lately. Even I will admit that Dunn has been dreadful lately. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) Petricka will be next. Seems there's zero confidence in Webb. The amazing thing is the Dodgers have/had a streak where their pitchers had 2 walks OR less in 36 consecutive games. Not sure if that streak's still alive or not. And there shouldn't be until he proves he can throw strikes. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) That was a fastball, belt high. Why was Flowers setting up in that same exact location...where the ball was thrown to? Sigh. That's not close to Putnam's best pitch. We've now seen two great set-up guys ruined by pitching them in the 9th...out of their comfort zones. What can you do??? -
