Pau was offered the MLE from the Thunder......That seems awfully low. I didn't really want Pau because I thought he'd be getting ~10M. At the MLE I'd love to have him. -
I'd be thrillied with Webster or Workman for Viciedo.

Kinda odd none of the Bulls reporters are saying anything about Mirotic. Also if the reports are true Niko himself if the one paying for his buyout...That's kinda odd, I think EDIT- Good call Kev on that 600k tidbit, I had forgotten all about that. -
vs Watch as Jose Abreu and the gang look to create some fireworks of their own.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) Like most of you I have always assumed he will stay in NY. Barring NY somehow getting LeBron over the course of Melo's contract there is no chance he will win anything with the Knicks. He couldnt even make it to the playoffs last year in the east, Pau Gasol isnt going to put you over the hump. Speaking of Gasol, I really dont understand why were even after him. We have Noah, Taj, Mirotic and McBuckets to a degree for the 4/5, we really need a 2/3 so I dont really see how Gasol would fit in with the Bulls plan. Well I'm not quite sure DMD will play any PF, so I guess it does make some sense. If they can land Pau cheap enough to still land a a few other good pieces it'd be a fun team. -

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) There's gonna be alot of disappointed fans here when Melo announces he's staying in NY. Of course we'd be disappointed, but I won't be mad at the FO. They seemingly have put forth a great effort, so if he stays in NY I'll be saying f*** him and NOT f*** this FO. They can't force these things to happen. Plus he's not THAT great anyway. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 02:09 PM) I think Thibs would kill Smith as soon as he went rogue. Which will be the first official practice I think we were saying some of the same things about Robinson. Somewhat off topic, I'm really liking what I'm hearing about Bairstow. Kid sounds like a guy who Thibs will love. If it takes Mirotic to get Melo I think I'd be fine with him backing up Taj. -

Knicks fans are also saying if they take Boozer we gotta take Smith....Which I'm all for. Smith has a little bit of Nate Robinson in him and Thibs kinda made that work. If they take on Smith that leaves 1 less hole to fill with the the 2 exceptions they have. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) I still maintain that Mirotic makes almost zero sense for New York (same with Butler potentially) because those two guys would majorly eat into the 2015-2016 cap space that the Knicks supposedly want to open. Snell, Dunleavy, future draft picks are much better fits for that reason. It of course depends on whether or not they like him. Knicks fans, fwiw, seem to really like him. If they think he's the top 10 guy in the draft we heard about then his potential salary could be a steal.....I also think he would be a real good fit in the triangle offense. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) No brainer..I do it. I do think if you negotiate, you can keep one of Butler / Miro. Possibly....I could see Snell/Niko/Boozer and picks. Mirotic can basically be signed for anything right? That could really help make the deal work. -

Stumbled upon a NY message board...The majority think a suitable return for Melo would be Butler/Mirotic/Boozer and picks....Kinda seems like a lot, but I'd do that all day. -
When do you fire Robin?

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) This is Coop's way of saying the bullpen sucks. Quote was from 2012 FYI...Just pointing out Coops, who I really think runs the pitching staff, view on pitch counts....That's not his only quote from him on that subject either...Coop gives no (bleep) about pitch counts. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) If it's just yappers not in the game questioning it, we should see a lot of 120 pitch counts on below .500 noncontenders. But we don't. Danks struggled in the 7th; he shouldn't have been out in the 8th at all. The pen is reasonably fresh and has pitched well, despite its 9th inning struggles. As SS2K pointed out the pen just pitched 7 innings the day before, so they werent really "resonably fresh" Danks gave up a HR and retired the 3 other batters (K/GO/FB) he faced in the 7th, I wouldn't really say he struggled, he gave up a HR which is what DAnks is prone to do....Again he struck out Trout just 2 batters before the 2nd HR, if he had "nothing left" he wouldn't have struck out Trout. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) Nobody on this rebuilding team should be throwing 120 pitches. "But this pitch count thing, we’re in the American League," Cooper said. "We’re not in Little League. But nevertheless, people that bring up pitch counts are people who have nothing else to really know. And it just blows me away. They’re doing that to say, ‘God forbid if someone goes down, I told you so.’ And these are people that are not in the arena and never really played, so what kind of validity does any of that hold? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) Is no one going to mention that the pen went 7 innings the night before? That includes Webb, Belasario, and Petricka each going 2 innings. If a reliever came in an inning or two earlier, and still served up the lead (because we all know the pen has sucked this year), how would people have felt if we ended up in a long extra inning game again with either running out of pitchers, or pitchers who had been extended because of the doubleheader the day before? The guys who didn't pitch the day prior were Putnam, Rienzo, and Surkamp. Another fine point.... and to quote the great Don Cooper “I don’t give a (bleep) what our pitch count is right now. I want you to go out and give us a chance to win the (bleeping) game." -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) He's paid to make the correct decision. The night before, when the object was merely to get on base - nothing more - he made a poor decision letting Garcia bat. Even last night was nothing more than a push for him, clearly over-extending Danks. Dude had just struck out the best hitter in baseball 2 batters before the HR....I don't think you could say they "Clearly over-extended him". -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) As long as it isn't ultimately about money, I agree. If it is about the money, the entire exercise is a big waste of time for all involved, except it gets Melo some free dinners and attention, and gets a few cities fawning over him. ...Unless a sign and trade happens -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) Have we all stopped reading the reports on Carmelo? Some of it just doesn't make any sense. Yesterday on twitter, former NBA PG Kenny Anderson said that Melo wasn't happy with Bulls offer and would be going back to NY. I tweeted back and forth with Anderson and I asked him if Carmelo wanted Taj to stay. Anderson said Yes. I explained to him that if Taj stays, Melo will have to take something resembling like a 4 year $70 million deal. He said and that's the issue. So what is it? He can't have Taj Gibson and more $$. It just doesn't make any sense. He's probably going back to New York but when he does I hope he doesn't talk about wanting to win at the podium. That's the only time I've heard anything about him being unhappy with the offer. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) Isn't the way that this works someone will put up a couple million dollars for him and the Bulls will pay the remainder? No way he's out of the league this year. Yes indeedy......And ya there's no way he's out of league. I never really thought he was THAT BAD (certainly had his nights though) but with Taj waiting in the wings and Mirotic hopefully coming over, it's time to move on. -
