Ya, it'd be fun stuff, should get a good buy rate. In other news, just 2 days after putting on a good match with Luke Harper, Kassius Ohno was released. Kinda odd that they book him to take on a guy from the main roster then release him. Knowing him, he probably opened his big mouth about something in the back and got canned. -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Who determines what a line drive is? He had 28 xbh's in 408 PA's. Hes not driving the ball. No clue, perhaps someone more familiar with fangraphs can explain. -
If they can get a good package for De Aza, sure, I'd like Span. He's been one of the best CFers in the game defensively, doesn't strikeout a ton, and he can take a walk. Not sure what they'd want though.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Right. Even when he's "dialed in," it's not like he's driving the ball with any authority. He's just slapping the ball around and getting hits. That's great if you're Juan Pierre. Someone brought up a good stat in another thread, his line drive% was the highest of his career @ 23%. He had 74 line drives in 103 games which is 22 more than he had his stellar rookie year in 7 less ABs. I really don't know what to think about Gordo. The changed batting stance looked like it was really gonna work for him...But then again I did just suggested the Sox go after Murphy. It's gonna be quite the interesting offeseason. -
Not sure if I've already brought up his name yet, but the Mets are said to be "aggressively" shopping Daniel Murphy. I don't know how good he is defensively at 2B but he'd be a pretty good upgrade offensively over Beckham, and he bats left handed. They could really use some OFers, so a deal built around De Aza and Murphy could make some sense(Assuming the Sox want to trade him and can get a new CFer/Lead-off guy in here). Murphy is a career .295/.344/.441 hitter vs RHP(1665 ABs) and he's not that bad vs LHP either, .274/.301/.375

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) But it doesn't seem to me rebuilding should include the Kepp/Gillaspie combo. Sox have some money. Can't they find a stop gap third baseman or just plug Semien in there and get rid of one of the two, Kepp or Gillaspie? How was his defense? Seemed to me he was not good over there. Conor to me screams career minor leaguer, but I could handle him on the team as long as we trade Kepp for a bag of balls. His D was in the lower half of the league....Would I like a new 3B??? Sure. I just think you could do worse, and it's nothing to, dread, fear, detest, or whatever vibrant word you wanna use about the situation. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) Well then he gets the proverbial "one more year," El Rockin. At some point he has to be considered a bust even though he was a first round pick. I guess Semien at third and Beckham at second would be OK. Who's going to get cut if they keep all these infielders, though. Kepp and Gillaspie appear safe. My great fear is it's the blah Kepp/Gillaspie duo at third and Becks at second, which is not good at all. Here's a fun fact that might boggle your mind Greg....Conor Gillaspie ranked in the top half of 3rd basemen in ops vs RHP. He was "fine" in his part of the platoon. They just need to get Keppinger back to his 2012 self when his OPS vs LHP was 3rd in the league. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) I think the problem is that Alexei winds up significantly changing his approach when he's in the #2 slot. His power suddenly seemed to re-appear when he moved down in the order later this year. You're mistaken my friend, it was the other way around actually. 5 of his 6 HRs were in the 2/3 spot.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) Everyone hit's a little better when there is runners on and the pitcher is going from the stretch. If De Aza gets on and Ramirez is batting #2 there is almost no chance for ADA to take second. Alexei just goes up there hacking and De Aza can't steal a base. A #2 hitter is suppose to be patient and be able to take the ball to the right side, two things Alexei never does. Disclaimer: I like Alexei just prefer he'd bat 9th in the order. Fair enough, but with no one on he's been a .251/.285/.342 hitter the last 3 years. I'd prefer he'd hit somewhere with the opportunity to hit with runners on. Call me crazy but I wouldn't mind seeing him hit 3rd again. I think our best hope of a good #2 hitter is Semien winning the 2B job.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) This is probably the most likely of the lineups I have seen so far. I just hope we don't put Alexei second. He's such a terrible #2 hitter. If De Aza, or a preferable new leadoff hitter, can get on at decent clip I think Lexi can be a good #2 hitter. Over the last 3 years he's hit .304/.346/.439 with runners on. I think it's possible that Robin has looked at that stat and it's the reasoning behind hitting him 3rd.

What about Bell vs Reed? Its a 2 flex league. f***in A I forgot about Reggie Bush too. I've got McCoy, Stacy, Bell, Johnson, and Bush for 2 RB and 2 Flex spots with Jordan Reed also as a possibility at flex. Probably should look into making a trade. -

Quick, should I start Jordan Reed over Le'Veon Bell or Zac Stacy? Buffalo(Bell) and Indy(Zac) are both top 5 against the run, and Reed has been really good. Vernon Davis is my other TE -

Can't find any official stats on it, but from a 2005 article Willy Tavares was said to the the fastest player in the game and he ran a 3.58.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) There are a lot of scouts who believe Franco is far too aggressive at the plate, having a tendency to swing at everything and there are concerns regarding his ability to lay off pitches once he gets to pitchers who are more skilled. It's awesome to see that kind of raw power out of a 20 year old, and he'd easily be a top 3 prospect in the White Sox system (if not the top prospect), but that does not mean there still is not considerable risk. Regarding Brown, that simply wouldn't happen. The Phillies would be hesitant to trade Brown straight up for Quintana, let alone including a prospect like Franco in too. As I said, if a trade happens, it'd probably be something along the lines of Quintana, De Aza, and (fill in the blank) for Brown, Biddle, and Franco, or Biddle/Franco, or who knows. They might take give Brown straight up for Quintana, but they certainly won't do Franco and Brown for Quintana. He's good; he's not David Price good. Interesting, looking at his numbers I would have never guessed that. 31 strikeouts in 69 games as a 20 year old in AA doesn't suggest that at all. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) No way. I like Franco, but he is far too risky a prospect to acquire for Quintana straight up, and frankly, the idea of getting Domonic Brown straight up for Quintana seems silly too. There's a match and my initial hypothetical package that comes to mind is Quintana and De Aza for Brown, Biddle, and Franco, but that's too much from the Phillies end. Still, there could definitely be pieces that move here. Perhaps I wasn't clear. I meant swap Biddle for Franco in the package that included Brown (Brown and Franco for Q). Not arguing here, just curious, what makes Franco "far too risky"? Just the fact that he's a prospect in general? His numbers looked ridiculous last year for a 21 year old in AA, big power, not a lot of strikeouts. Depending on what the Phils think of Brown, I may actually be asking a bit too much here. Like you proposed maybe adding De Aza could get you both Brown and Franco, probably not Biddle as well. But then questions arise from the deal(yes, I'm questioning my own proposed deal)...Who leads off? Are you ok with Garcia in CF? If not are you giving up on Dayan "already"? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) More interesting is the part about the Phils and Price. Could that be a package that would be offered for Quintana? He isn't quite on Price's level, but he is also under team control for 5 more years, 2 of them pre-arb. Swap out Biddle for Franco and I'll be ecstatic. -

Help a poor brother out! Got bored and channeled Steve to make this semi-sweet T-shirt. I tried so damn hard to get the white out from in between Alshons arms but just couldn't make it happen. I still think it looks pretty sweet. If a lot of you would prefer it be a different color I can change it up. If you buy one, send me a pm so I can thank you. You'd really be helping me out....even if it's not something you'd wear out, but it a size bigger and rock it to bed =p. http://teespring.com/MOTM -

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) He was pretty over when he first debuted in 95, basically because of the shock at seeing Dustin Rhodes like this at the time. Who knew 18 years later it would still be going. I'm not talking over here, I'm talking his actual in ring skills. I remember he was over back in the day but I don't remember him being any where near as good in the ring as he has been since returning. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) Really you didn't, I have the same question still. You showed me that he was hurt to start the year but the quote actually argued that it wasn't bothering him by the time mid-May rolled around...which leaves me with no explanation for his performance this year. Just took that off his wiki page without investigating further. I actually agree with you. Could have a Joe Crede-esque back injury that will never put him back to his 2012 self.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) So the argument that he's back and not that his 29 year old season was a peak season is a 21 game hitting streak? That's cute. His OPS in the first half was .726, his OPS in the 2nd half when he should have been recovered was .714. Are we talking nagging back injury for a 3b territory here? Because I have zero interest in a 30 year old 3b with a history of back injuries. We've kinda been through that already. FWIW I was just answering your question. Like I said in my response to the Sox trading for Davidson I'm fine with giving the Gillepinger platoon another chance. If the Sox can find another LHB somewhere else I'd then be open to getting a RHB at 3B. Maybe some team thinks of Tank highly and will part with a good player while the Sox add a CF who can leadoff then they can move ADA to LF and lower in the lineup.
