  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 11:09 PM) So the Sox say they owe it to Konerko to go out on his own terms. How about they owe it to the fans to stop BSing us. Oh yea we want to compete. Konerko was paid massive amounts of money to play for the Sox. You don't owe him anything. Try owing the fans a winner. The White Sox "family" atmosphere includes guys like Baines, Ventura and Konerko but the fans are not part of the family. Apparently we are the red-headed step child. It's ridiculously early, and they've already upgraded 1B and DH(A PK/Dunn platoon is better than just having one or the other). What are they BSing about?
  2. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) Over under on dongs next year? 17 Wayyyy under, unless there's an injury. I think he'll be lucky to get half of that. Barring injury I'd guess he gets tops 250 ABs. Last year he had 12 in 467 ABs.
  3. With AZ asking about Cespedes and also wanting an ace I wonder if they would "settle" for Viciedo and Quintana? Quintana could put up near ace numbers in the NL and Viciedo has the potential a "poor mans"(and I use that term loosely because he has the potential to be just as good) Cespedes. Could be talking about some of the same guys we're talking about for Sale.
  4. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 06:26 PM) I don't know if having Konerko on the team really sets the bench. Beckham could probably play a few games at SS in a pinch. Alexei rarely if ever needs a day off. So a bench or Danks, Flowers/Phegley, Keppinger, and Konerko could work too. Yup, we've got the versatility to make it happen. Either the one you purpose or the one i just posted both work.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 05:31 PM) We've got 4 choices. Trade Dunn and get nothing back. Trade Keppinger and get nothing back Have either no backup OF or no backup SS on the roster. A 6 man bullpen. Take your pick. I don't like any of those, but we have to chose one of them. I choose PK-Keppinger-Garcia-Catcher Leury can play CF so when De Aza needs a rest your covered, when Dayan needs a rest you shift ADA to LF, when Garcia needs rest you move Dayan to RF.
  6. Was there anything he had to work on when making the transition from the bullpen to the rotation? Did you get a better feel for your secondary pitches or develop anything new?
  7. What's wrong with playing Beckham at SS 5-10 times a year? Beckham and Keppinger up the middle is potentially really ugly defensively but oh well, it's just just a few games a year. Or for that matter make Leury the 4th OFer/Super Utility guy. A PK-Kepp-Leury-Catcher or PK-Leury-DAnks-Catcher bench both work IMO.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) I'd say this is clearly false because it forces Alexei Ramirez to play every game for the first 5 months of the season since we can't carry a backup IF other than Keppinger. He damn near does anyway, 158 games each of the last 4 years. Sox could simply move Beckham to short a few times a year.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Move Dunn for Gardner and all your problems are fixed. Lol I also think Dunn has a place on this team as a LH middle of the lineup bat. Unless we also swing a trade for a guy like Headley, or another LH middle of the lineup bat(or sign Cano =p) then I'm sticking with the Dunn/Konerko platoon that could be pretty good.
  10. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 21m Also on @whitesox: @Yankees addition of Jacoby Ellsbury could make Brett Gardner available. Alexei Ramirez nice fit w/NYY if Cano leaves. I sure do wish Dayan could hang at 3B. Move him there with De Aza in LF and Gardner in CF then go with something like.... Gardner-Semien-Abreu-Dunn-Garcia-De Aza-Viciedo-Jaso(PLZ)-Beckham I really wanna keep De Aza and Tank, but at the same time I want an upgrade defensively in CF, and OBP wise in the leadoff position....I'm in a pickle on the De Aza situation.
  11. I have zero problem with this. Not a big Luery fan, but he can play 3B/SS/2B, and Danks can play all 3 OF positions so I don't see the problem. If they can't find any one to take Keppinger then so be it, I think they could still make it work with him on the bench(and Luery in AAA). Lexi has played 158 games the last 3 years, in the 4 games he needs rest just move Gordon to SS and play Kepp at 2B. Should an injury happen they have Luery and Semien waiting in AAA.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 11:18 PM) If you're waiting on only contributors from the minors to get us to 90 wins, then you'll be waiting a long-ass time and might as well blow things. Even if Cano gets us to 80 wins next year, we're in a much better position to be a 90 win team in 2015. Exactly. theoretically the can keep the pitching staff intact for 2014 then come 2015 they should have a lot more room to make a trade for yet another "big piece". Also, the Mariners offense was nearly as bad as the Sox (they scored just 26 more runs, had a lower batting average, and their OBP was just 4 points higher)...Are they D-U-M-B for throwing money his way?
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 11:09 PM) We must sign Cano now then if that's the case. 80 wins would be . . . more of the same. Doesn't necessarily make them an 80 win team either IMO. It all depends on Abreu and Garcia IMO. If they can be the players we hope they are you can't deny that a 3-4-5-6-7 of Abreu-Cano-Garcia-Dunn-Viciedo is the makings of a contending team.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) You don't think they are a 90-loss team with Cano? Adding 2 middle of the lineup bats with one of those being one of the best players in baseball only gives us 9 more wins? Child Please.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) That's in order to minimize the luxury tax payment, it doesn't have anything to do with when they're booking the salary on the budget. So what you're telling me is, all they're doing is spreading it out on paper but really paying all the money up front? that doesn't sound right.
  16. Major League Baseball Alone among the big four professional sports leagues, Major League Baseball has no salary cap, but it does have a luxury tax. Rather than a hard cap, the luxury tax penalizes teams whose payroll is over an annually determined maximum. The teams pay a sliding percentage of the amount over the limit, depending on how often they exceed it. Teams pay large signing bonuses, and the overall effect is similar to a salary cap. The teams can spread the bonuses over several years to reduce the effect on their payroll. http://smallbusiness.chron.com/effect-sign...-cap-38630.html No time stamp on the article so I'm not sure when it came out or if things have changed recently.
  17. Gardner anyone?? Still don't know what to think of ADA...I wanna see him in LF(and lower in the order), but where does that put Tank? If you get rid of Dunn to make room for Dayan at DH, then where does the LH middle of the lineup bat come from? A Cano signing and a trade for Gardner would be swell. They can then move Dunn for whatever, and go with.... 1. Gardner CF 2. Ramirez SS 3. Abreu 1B 4. Cano 2B 5. Garcia RF 6. De Aza LF 7. Viciedo DH 8. Gillaspie 3B 9. Phegley C
  18. Bulls said to be interested in Sergio Rodriguez, who is/was Mirotic's teammate in Spain. Let's bring in Rudy Fernandez while we're at it. What's Spanish for "Bench Mob"?
  19. Haven't seen this mentioned but Teague is heading to the Iowa Energy.... There goes Tank Commander Teague....for now
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) I could see Krol replacing Smyly I take forever to post, didn't see Krol was part of the deal. He's still looks like a downgrade from Smyly in the pen, and Smyly is a downgrade from Fister in the rotation.....Detroit probably has something up their sleeves.
  21. I wonder if this means Smyly returns to the rotation? If so Detroit better start adding some bullpen pieces.
  22. Peter Gammons of the MLB Network reports that the earliest the Padres would consider trading Chase Headley is next June. The team doesn't want to sell low on Headley coming off a season in which his OPS+ dropped by more than 30 points. Womp womp
  23. I think they'd want something like Semien and Reed/Jones. I'd try something like Reed/Sanchez+
  24. I'd rather try and get Josh Thole on the cheap. Left handed, Illinois guy, just 27, and in the year where he had his most playing time (386 PAs) he put up a .280/.350/.359 with 32 walks compared to 40 Ks. He's got no power, but he has the ability to work a count and extend innings which is a plus.
