  1. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Personally if I'm Hahn I'm telling Towers he can keep Bradley and that I want as many pieces as possible. I feel like the package diminishes a good deal if Bradley is involved. Skaggs Chafin Owings Davidson Trahan Eaton Spruill Lamb Drury Pick your favorite 6 and tell them that's the package for Sale. No way, if you're trading Sale, Bradley is a must IMO.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) Don't just comp the era's. Pitching in 05 was a lot different than pitching now with the steroid era in full swing. Fair enough. Q had the 25th highest WAR among pitchers so doesn't that "technically" make him a #1 starter? As I said before I also think he has room to grow as well. I could see him putting up that 3.21 era he did in the 2nd half for a whole year next year.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) If the Sox were to trade Sale for a whole bunch of prospects, doesn't that kind of make the Abreu signing pointless? Not that they are competing this year, but that pretty much sets back the clock at least 4 years guaranteed. Suddenly Abreu is 30 and his contract is almost up. Not if you're getting 3-4 pieces who are already major league ready....They aren't trading Sale for a bunch of guys who are years away.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) No. Never. Quintana has nothing like Contreras' movement on his best pitch. Numbers wise they're already comparable and Q has room to grow. The first half of 06 you guys are touting Count had a 3.38 ERA, Q in the 2nd half had a 3.21. I know that's cherry picking and mismatching a bit, but I think it's somewhat valid.
  5. I think Quintana can be every bit as good as late 05/early 06 Contreras.
  6. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) MLB Daily Dish ‏@mlbdailydish 3m #White Sox LHP Chris Sale drawing trade interest from #Braves and #DBacks: http://sbn.to/1kt4XZB The Bravess eh?? Not sure how they make sense since their minor league isn't that great Gotta be talking Justin Upton or Heyward, one of their current starting pitchers, Avilon or Venters, Bethancourt, and Lucas.....or make it some crazy 3 team deal.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) The DBacks have already said they aren't trading Bradley, so I guess we can just forget this. Of course, the Sox have said they aren't trading Sale, yet we're still talking about that too. Both sides have said it's unlikely or they'd be surprised if they're traded....If you leave the door open, people will talk.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) Or it could set the Sox back about 5 years too. It could, but I trust in the Sox ability to develop pitching.....Maybe the offensive pieces they get don't pan out (at least OWings/Davidson/Polluck or Eaton developed elsewhere), but the Sox should have plenty of depth to trade from, and some $$$ to work with.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:57 AM) Now that Sale talks are heating up, I'd actually try to get teams in a bidding war. Package I'd ultimately settle on, from Dbacks: Eaton, Davidson, Owings, Bradley, Trahan, Skaggs and Delgado. Sox toss in Nate Jones. You then hope in a few years you get this... 1B - JDA 2B - Semien SS - Owings 3B - Eaton LF - Hawkins CF - Eaton RF - Garcia DH - Viciedo Quintana Delgado Santiago/Skaggs Johnson Bradley You need a God's Ransom for Sale. Nothing less. Don't forget the #3 pick...Lets say its Hoffman....~3 years from now we could then be looking at... Bradley-24 Quintana-28 Delgado- 27 Johnson-26 Hoffman-24 That pitching staff, with a much improved offense, because of the Sale trade, could put us into great position to contend. Still got guys like Santiago, Rienzo, Beck, Bassit, Danish, and Snodgress who can be traded or used to max out the bullpen.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 11:40 PM) That is absolutely terrible for the Sox... I agree that it needs to be more, but I just can't figure the deal out. Meant to throw Skaggs in there as well. Forgot about Lee too Pederson-Lee-Skaggs-Magill-Rodriguez-Davidson.
  11. I would rather work out some kind of 3 way deal with the Dodgers to get Joc Pederson in here in any kind of Sale deal. A left handed middle of the lineup bat that can hang in CF? Sign me up. Putting my GM cap on.... Sox Get Pederson-Julio Urias-Matt MaGill-Paco Rodriguez-Matt Davidson Dbacks get- Matt Kemp-Corey Seager Dodgers get-Sale-Owings Something like that, I just want an impact LH bat to start if I'm trading Sale. Sox have a few guys who could end up being impact RH bats (Abreu, Garcia, Viciedo, Davidson((in this trade)), but nothing on the other side of the football.
  12. Didn't have time to replace Bush, and only got 1 half out of Keenan Allen...Still dropped 191 points. If I had time to put Stacy in over Bush it would have been my 2nd straight 200 pt week....And this is the team that some people here ripped on....Who needs to draft a QB high anyway??
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) He's "questionable to play," I doubt you'll see him. Sigh...
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) The Philly game is just amazing. Is Bush out?
  15. With the way Hahn has talked this season, if we get Headley, he's going to be extended. I'd be absolutely thrilled ay the prospect of Headley returning to 2012 form.
  16. Also worth noting that Nate Jones has been better against LH hitters than he is against RH hitters so he might as well be considered a LH reliever.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 07:17 PM) Whenever I think about Veal I think about that Sunday FOX game in Los Angeles where he allowed that terrible home run. Ya, I almost added that little tidbit but I didn't wanna be accused of cherry picking or whatever...You eliminate that game and he has a respectable 3.41 ERA. As a 2nd lefty(preferably) you can do wayyyy worse.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) Both of these guys have some upside and Leesman gives the extra benefit of being a potential long reliever. Veal clearly has upside based on what we saw in 2012, we clearly can't just toss guys like that aside with where we're at. Leesman, ok, if we find someone better I promise not to be mad. He seems like a guy who will find a slot as a 2nd lefty in bullpens over a number of years, maybe bouncing back and forth between AAA and the bigs because there are always guys who do that. We've got to try to get something out of Veal for at least one more year since we've already seen what he can do if he finds a groove. Ya, Veal was actually pretty good the final 2 months last year as well, with just 3 runs in his final 16 innings. I'd like for the Sox to add another LH arm for the pen, but if they don't plan on competing then it doesn't hurt to go with just Veal and maybe Leesman down there.
  19. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Even from a 22 yo? I think Sox fans have shown they have some patience, take Beckham for instance. Franklin only played in 102 games, that's not very long. I will say his strike outs scare me. The Sox have been patient, as they should be with some guys, I'm talking about the fans. For instance, Phegley hit 316/.360/.597 in the minors, and now that position is a "Black hole". I think if Franklin put up those numbers there would be some fans calling his spot a black hole.
  20. If Franklin put up those numbers in Chicago we'd be calling to replace him already.
  21. I like how all offseason we've been craving LH hitters yet we now just want to dump Dunn. Dumping Dunn will make me hate the Pauley move because I only love it as part of a platoon. Pauley doesn't want to play full time, nor should he after breaking down down the stretch in 2012 and being garbage in 2013. We wanted LH hitters because we face a lot of RH pitching, Dunn had the highest OPS against RH pitching and we wanna dump him. Garcia had the next highest OPS vs RHP(in only 129 abs) and then were looking at Beckham as the guy who put up the next highest ops vs RHP, and we wanna dump him as well.
  22. The White Sox have outrighted outfielder Blake Tekotte and infielder Mike McDade, reducing their 40-man roster to 37, according to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune (Twitter link). The 26-year-old Tekotte hit .226/.306/.355 with one homer (his first in the Majors) in 36 PAs for the Sox in 2013. He hit .236/.319/.389 in 338 Triple-A PAs. McDade, 24, batted .250/.313/.371 in 428 PAs between the Triple-A affiliates for the Indians and ChiSox in 2013. -MLBtraderumors.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 01:21 AM) Paulie hit .313 vs. lefties with a .398 OPB. His stats for the year were .244 12 54 with OBP of .313. In what universe is all that embarrassing?? It's actually a pretty mediocre season if you go by major league baseball as a whole. There are TONS of players with as bad or worse stats than that. I'm saying it's not out of the question he improves on those stats IF HEALTHY. I mean, if he hit .180 with 6 homers and 26 ribbies, that would be embarrassing. He did not hit like that; he was OK at best. He was not trash especially when you consider he still can catch the ball in the field. Yes he's slow as molasses. I've never denied that. He can't run. Dunn hit .197 6 22 vs. lefties. 48 Ks in 122 at bats. For the year he whiffed 189 times and hit .219 with OBP of .320. For a 1B that is pretty sad, esp when you start to bring up his .355 slugging%....A a number he shared with Tyler Flowers. I'm done, I'll let others have the fun. (What's sad is I was one of the biggest supporters of this move, and now greg has totally wrecked it for me.)
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 12:49 AM) He also held a long presser on the last day of the season or the last weekend saying a lot of things that were white lies. Folks, Paulie never was going to quit. It was pretty apparent he wanted one more year. Now if he's getting regular at bats and hitting .150 after 2 months, I'd suspect he'll hang 'em up or become a coach at that point. My point has been he has never embarrassed himself yet and may have fuel left in the tank. What white lies did he say at the that presser? Lol he hit .226/.290/.310 against RHP last year...Adam Dunn? .226/.327/.459.....If Dunn is so god awful, how isn't what PK did last year an embarrassment in your opinion?
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) White Sox ... I guess you are totally dismissing the possibility Paulie could have a bounceback farewell season. ... Yet many people on here are willing to give Dunn the benefit of the doubt again and again. I repeat, Paulie is not 44 years old. He still hit the ball last year. He just didn't hit it over the fence for some reason, maybe declining power? Possible. Maybe injury?? Likely. What if he's healthy? If he can see the ball and his wrists and back are healthy, I still think there's a chance of a super bounce back season. I don't get why everybody dismisses it. We're talking about a natural hitter, not some of the unproven hacks on our team who are much younger. Because the guy made it clear he doesn't even want to be a starter! I think he knows his body, and he knows it's not gonna hold up playing even 100 games. It showed down the stretch in 2012, and pretty much throughout the whole 2013 season. He is going the Giambino route and nothing more.
