  1. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 01:36 AM) It use to be the best day of the year when every channel was jammed with bowl games starting at 11am EST with the Hall of Fame Bowl. But now that ESPN has a monopoly on the bowls, just isnt the same. The best day of the year comment was just a pun on it being the first day of the year =p
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 01:22 AM) Countless bowls, all pointless But it was a damn good time....Literally watched football all day...Best day of the year!
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) Bears asked permission to interview packers OC and former qb coach Tom Clements. Obviously has done some nice things, but he's 59 - seems a bit old to start your first gig as a HC I'd like Clements, I like the way the Packers spread the ball around and I'd like to see the Bears do that more. I know you've gotta feed the beast but I think the offense could flow much better if you spread the ball around. The Bears, esp. if Knox comes back, would have a damn good WR corp, use that.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 01:03 PM) Knox may never walk the same let alone run the same according to the last doctor reports I heard. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) Yea I read something a month or so ago that said Knox isn't even able to run yet. we are a year after the injury and he can't even run, that is not a good sign. I could see Emery using a 4th - 6th round pick on a speedster I'm waiting to hear back from his agent with his progress and ptact in a pm with his thoughts on the injury. The recent articles I've read are incredibly vague, saying he's merely fighting or battling to get back on the field. If it doesn't look good then yes, a speedster in the late rounds would be the direction to go.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) He was also constantly running BEHIND the linebackers on those goal lines slants. Any wonder why cutler suddenly cut down on goal line ints? It was losing knox. The addition of Marshall, a legit end zone target helps a ton. Knox was basically the guy when he was healthy, and at 6'0" he's not an end zone target. Knox as the #4 would be a pretty big upgrade, and an injury to one of the big 3 would leave me a lot more comfortable with having Knox back.
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 12:12 AM) I've always liked Lovie, sad to see him go and if he goes somewhere where they have a solid offense and need help on the defensive end, he could be really successful. Unfortunately, the offense in Chicago has mostly been garbage under his tenure, some of it his fault, some of it not. I hope the Bears don't mess this up but like some posters have pointed it out already, my money says they'll f*** it up like always... Good luck Lovie, the meathead Bears fans are idiots, hope you are successful at whatever you do. If they upgrade the line it should really be unf***upable IMO. Does ptact ever wander into these parts? I'm curious what he has to say about Johnny Knox. I just tweeted his agent to see what his status is for next year. Even if he's lost a step he should be an upgrade over Hester.
  7. Don't care who the new coach is as long as he's coaching Jake Long or Ryan Clady! PLZ.
  8. Awesome, I get to stay home allllll byyyyyy myyyyyseelllfff because no one wants to pick me up and I'd rather not give up nearly 2 weeks of being marijuana free. Welp, I have 2012 recorded on my DVR and with their only being 4 hours amd 15 minutes left in 2012 I might as well watch it.
  9. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 11:13 AM) I assume that Hahn is better focused on what needs to be done, than many on this board. His objective must be to not only acquire another LH hitter, but to get one who can hit in the middle of the order. If the Sox have to bat Dunn 3RD or 4TH, they are not going to be able to compete with that Tiger lineup. The Sox simply cannot have a guy with a .200 average and over 200 strike outs in the middle of their order, unless it's 5TH, and he follows some pretty good hitters, including at least one who bats from the left side. Is there anyone here who disagrees with that? I believe there was someone on here who posted some advanced stats or abstract knowledge that said Dunn was an ideal #3 hitter. I'd be ok with Dunn in the 3 spot. If you bat him behind guys like PK and Rios he'll never get anything to hit.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) I have a feeling this is only the beginning in terms of changes. At minimum, I bet we don't see Urlacher or Hester back. Nick Roach hasn't looked bad at MLB. It'll be interesting to see what the new coach does with Shea. Could they go Briggs-Roach-Shea? Is Emery gonna bring a guy who runs the 3-4 he's used to? It's going to be an interesting offseason.
  11. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:04 PM) David Kaplan ‏@thekapman Hunter Hillenmeyer just said on @CSNChicago that a good chance that '13 Bears win a lot less than 10 games. This is move for long term that's just silly to me. The D still has it in them, and if they upgrade the OL there should be no reason why they win "a lot less" than 10 games.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 07:40 AM) 13 deserves to be retired before 12, and that's not even taking into account the managing portion of the career. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) He won a World Series as a manager, plus another division title. How many other White Sox can say that? I said I didn't understand the bold part of the statement. I understand it from a coaching aspect but his playing career looks like someone the board would be calling for his DFA.
  13. Any chance Gruden gets out of his ESPN contract? Wouldn't he be a great fit?
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:03 AM) Alright, I'm done Night y'all Lol was the question really that stupid?? I'm just curious how that works.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 12:55 AM) Meaning if lovie is out, emery cleans house. Nobody stays, he hires his own guys. Has nothing to do with what defense he wants. I know you love the bears like I do and want that OC job to be desirable, it just isn't with Lovie remaining as head coach and no promises going forward. So he already has his own guys??? Who are these guys? How does that work? Are they already in the NFL but once he gets control they'll be coming over? Serious questions.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 01:22 AM) No, if the offense thrives and lovie walks, emery sets up his own regime, I guess I don't understand this logic....What exactly would be an Emery regime mean? I know he's ran a 3-4 but what does that have to do with the offense? If they get a guy who runs the offense successful why would he get rid of him?
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 12:21 AM) Yup. Ozzie's Sox playing career >>> AJ's. Being 25 I don't remember ever watching him play in a Sox uni but looking at his stats I still don't understand why his number would be retired because of his playing career. Because of his defense?
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 12:01 AM) Come on now, the bears offer you no job security. They will be last on anyone's list right now if they keep lovie. There could be anywhere from 3 to 9 or 10 job openings in the nfl in the next week, why would you tie yourself to a coach in his walk year over a coach with a brand new contract. That promised upgraded OL? How do you promise that? Say you will go sign every top tier OL on the market? What happens if they want to sign elsewhere? You are living in fantasyland if you think any top tier OC would jump at this job. It is nothing but a trap door Well ya, I guess you can't really guarantee an upgraded OL but knowing it will be addressed would be comforting. Like I said it's hard to argue that this offense doesn't have A TON of potential behind a good O line. If Lovie walks and the offense thrives behind an upgraded OL then you set yourself up to potentially take Lovies job.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 11:40 PM) Why wouldn't I take a job with one of the many other coaches that go in fresh with a team (where it is likely I at least have 3-4 years to work?)? Because I'm promising you an upgraded OL. It's hard to argue that a Bears team with an upgraded OL wouldn't be fun to work with. You get one of the top WRs in the game, Alshon Jeffery who's shown flashes of being a really good WR, and Earl Bennett who Cutler has confidence in as your slot receiver...Then you throw in Matt Forte who's a damn good back.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) If you were an OC, would you take the Bears job knowing that Lovie is on such a short-leash? If Lovie had a good OC, I'd be content, but he has shown no ability to hire such and at this point, hiring another one just means a whole new system. Plus, lets be honest, Bears would just end up promoting Bates. How much would really change? In hindsight it was probably a big mistake letting Martz go. Should have let Martz go one more year and had Lovie and him hitched. If I'm Norv Turner, why the hell would I go to the Bears? Seems like there is a decent shot I'm ousted in a year. I guess on the flipside if the offense takes off, you might have another job (although I think at this point no one else is hiring Norv as a HC). If I were an OC and they promised they we're gonna upgrade the OL I'd be all over the job. The weapons are there already, they just need a damn line.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 07:40 AM) 13 deserves to be retired before 12, and that's not even taking into account the managing portion of the career. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) Also true. Wait a second...Are you guys talking about Ozzie? I don't get the bold part.
  22. Hopefully busy being this drunk again.
