What about Matt Capps for the bullpen?
2nd_city_saint787 replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
uhhh why? -
QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) no thanks. the sox need power in lf. if we are going to get a guy like that i would rather get the younger gardner with more upside. so your fine with say beckham as our leadoff hitter? or do you want or dh to bat lead off?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Adrian Beltre and Ryan Zimmerman had 2 of the worst FLD% in baseball this season, anyone care to argue that either is a poor defender? Albert Pujols made 13 errors this season. Now I watch most Cardinals games because there's nothing better than watching that man play baseball and I can tell you that the majority of those errors were made attempting to make plays that basically only he can make at the position. fine bro ill go delete it out of my post jeez -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Now explain to me why that is at all relevant. Why the number of errors an outfielder is charged with means anything. It's high time we stop using fielding percentage as a measure of a player's defensive worth, especially an outfielder. The numbers say he's been a very good defender in his short time in the majors but that has nothing to do with FLD%. Im just putting up his stats and trying to have someone justify why the wouldnt want him and that stat intrigued me. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) De Aza is not a prospect and no one would be interested in him in a trade. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure he's untradeable until June 1. my bad... give em Shelby and Morel -

I'm interested in why you guys dont think the kid is good? What justifies your thinking? 2005 A ball 73 games .284/.377 19 for 22 in SB 06 A-AA 118 games .298/.395 58 for 70 07 AA-AAA 99 games .281/.369 39 for 46 08 AAA 94 games .296/.414 37 for 46 yes he struggled his "first year" in the bigs put it was a very small sample size and it was his first cup of coffee he followed it up with a .270 .345 26 for 31 in 108 games the guys never played full time and not because he sucks but because hes stuck in new york, i see no reason why he couldnt put up .280/.360 and snag 40 bags which with his glove and the fact that hes cheap/dont have to spend money on pods or someone like that/dont have to deal away big time talent to acquire a lead off guy/ dont have to put becks in the leadoff spot. bring him in kenny, give em De Aza and Morel -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) Gardner makes sense in terms of filling the Sox's need as a leadoff hitter etc. although I personally don't think he's much better than say Jerry Owens. And by acquiring him, you'd be moving Alex Rios to RF, and I don't want that scenario to happen, because you'd be vastly overpaying him in terms of what he'd bring to the table from that spot. WHAAAAA JERRY OWENS??? REALLLLLY???? this guy was the opening day starter for the yankees...and like i stated before he played some games in left for the yanks so i dont see why he couldnt play there for us. -

another thing i liked was after a year in the minors he was already rated #1 best strike zone discipline -

QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) Did they really think that highly of him I always thought of him as a backup in their eyes... guess as time has pasted ive forgotten how little value Swisher had when we sent him packing he did beat out melky for CF at the beginning of the year...thats right, this 2nd year player was the opening day starter of the yankees, that says a lot -

QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) Wouldn't Brett Gardner have been a much better piece in the Swisher trade instead of superstar Jeff Marquez? he would of but i think the yanks thought a lot of him and wouldnt give em up for swish -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) jphat does make an excellent point about how Rios' contract is even more iffy if he's your RF and not playing CF. I bet anything that KW wishes he could take that move back. im also one of the biggest rios backers on here and will predict he has an all star caliber season next year and all this trash talking will go away real soon -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) I like alot of things about him, but I worry about his lack of extra base hits. first and foremost i got dibs on the brett gardner fan club president..... A lack of extra base hits doesn't bother me because 1. if he can singles hes a threat every time to steal a base and thatd be just like a double so really if he steals 40 bags and gets say 20 doubles and 10 triples thats really almost like 70 EBH 2. Beckhams hitting behind him who looks like hes gonna be a doubles machine he'll make up for that. -

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) If Rios isn't in center field he has next to no value. Certainly not at 10 mil a year Also on Wiki it said he played some LF for the yanks so i could see CQ goin to right and puttin brett out in LF keeping Rios in CF......i also think youre wrong, rios is a stud and would have value in left. -

ok so i smoked pot for the first time in 2 months so this could be me being high buttttttt what is everyone talking about on here, i seen multiple people say theyd rather have pop in the OF...then you want our lead off hitter to be our DH??? WHAAAA? or is everyone all of a sudden cool with batting becks leadoff or somethin? This guy is a younger, cheaper pods with a better glove for anyone not to like this move is mind boggling. You dont have to deal someone big (jenks for upton/ CQ for Crawford/ lexi for elsbury etc.) you save money that can be put forth getting a DH and a bullpen guy (im diggin the rumors of Putz and Matsui) and this guy played as a yankee rookie, the yankees usually dont stroll someone out there if theyre no good. Hes only 26 and has never played full time (not because he sucks but because he was on the friggin yankees) so who knows what hes capable of. per wikipedia I know the southern conference is not a power house (i assume because ive never heard of it and couldnt tell ya a team outside of CofC) but those numbers look pretty damn good. wow the more i look at his wiki the more this dude sounds like a f***in stud i honestly think id rather have him more than crawford or upton. Id even give Dayan -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Here's what i'd do: LR: Linebrink LR: Pena Mr: Hudson Mr: Carrasco SU: Thornton SU: Putz CL: Jenks I imagine, however, Hudson will be LR and Pena will be MR: im gonna go with LR DJ R LR Williams L MR Linebrink R MR Putz L SU Pena R SU Thornton L CL Jenks which has the potential to be the best bullpen in baseball. I think line just had a bad year and will go back to being dominant and pena has the potential to be dominant as well, really we have 5 guys in that pen that can be dominant pitchers and with the staff we have they should all be well rested to prevent being over worked.

a big surprise in center, i dont follow the minors as much as id like to but ive never heard of the guy out there and would have expected mitchell there....whats the word on this nick guy. edit just now seeing it was based on last years performance.

hmmmm very interesting I think i like it then sign Matsui and go to war 1. Crawford LF 2. Beckham 2b 3. Rios CF 4. Godzilla DH 5. Kong 1b 6. AJ C 7. Lexi SS 8. Jones RF 9. Teahen 3b that looks pretty good to me, every player minus AJ has the potential to hit 20 homers, you've got some guys in there that could really surprise us in Jones and Teahen, you've got a good D out there esp. if Jones comes in healthy a balanced lineup, good speed at the top....I like it.

Roy Halladay in a White Sox uniform???

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) Not sure why Toronto would want Flowers though when they have a similar player in J.P. Arencibia. Viciendo may fit better for them. good call i was just looking at there depth chart and seeing they had carlos ruiz trotting out there at catcher with no backup...hmmm maybe its not so much of a perfect fit after all. Dayan could be a piece they might want. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Well I said it was a fantasy. It might not take as much to get Halladay as you think. Danks or floyd would have to go in one of the deals to make up for the prospects you send in the other and to be honest id rather go out there with the staff we have instead of landing halladay for a year. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) Halladay will net two first round picks next offseason hence Toronto should be asking for two first round caliber players at least. A part of me thinks that Toronto should ask for more from Boston and New York just becasue I hate them both...irrational thinking, yes. Flowers and Wade Davis are 2 first round caliber players for sure. then id throw in Jayson Nix or CJ Retherford because they dont have a backup infielder and then maybe one more pitching prospect, maybe a Carlos Torres. Im sure they will get more than wade davis from the rays so this deal would make a ton of sense and Im sure KW has thought the same thing. -

QUOTE (supernuke @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) Getting in the middle of a three way trade with Halladay ending up else where is the only wat I see the Sox involved with him. and hopefully the mlb.com rumor of it being with the rays and bj upton being the man thats being shipped elsewhere is true and we are indeed involved. I just looked at uptons stats the 2 years before last year, he had an OBP of .380 both years man would that look good at the top of the lineup. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) Ah. Interesting. That could be an incredible fit for the Sox. I wonder if that is why Kenny played coy when Roy's name came up? I was thinking the same thing.
