Roy Halladay in a White Sox uniform???
2nd_city_saint787 replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Regardless, his club is the subject of one of the most surprising rumors of the day, as FOXSports.com -- citing Major League sources -- reported on Monday afternoon that the Rays are throwing themselves into the Roy Halladay sweepstakes. Tampa Bay might be willing to offer standout pitching prospect Wade Davis and outfielder B.J. Upton, whom Toronto could then flip to a third team http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb then i looked at the blue jays needs and they have raul chavez as there catcher so im sure theyd love to have flowers. i figured hmmmm this make since seeing as the the blue jays want 2 top 5 spects for him. -

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) With Vlad, Thome, Johnson and Matsui all out there and all, most likely, limited to only AL teams, I think there's a cheap DH to be had if KW waits it out. and that cheap DH is Carlos Delgado....dont hate -

after reading this....8) Miguel Gonzalez, C (2009 Performance Scores – Power 73; First Base Rate 58; Discipline 70; Speed 39) Signed out of Venezuela as a 17yo, a year ago, Gonzalez posted the #4 Performance Score in the DSL in his debut. The White Sox brought him to the states in 2009 and had him make his U.S. debut as an 18yo in the APY. There, he once again posted the #4 Performance score in the league. With Gonzalez, you start with good defensive skills that should allow him to stay behind the plate. Add to that a bat that would play at most positions around the diamond. He has plus power potential, good contact skills, and very good plate discipline. If you were compiling this list on pure upside alone, he would likely rate #3 or #4. Unfortunately, we aren’t, and Gonzalez has only had 11 ABs in full season ball. We are very high on him, but will temper our enthusiasm until we see more. 2010 should give us a much clearer picture. Im intrigued to know more about this kid he sounds like he could be a stud. Does anyone who knows more about him see him as having more upside than flowers?? It kinda looks like he might. anyone else got some info on em?

Im gonna agree with princess dye here. It may not be the sexy thing to do but this team can win with its pitching staff, I know right now were kind of an NL team playing in the AL but the starting pitchers we have (aside from peavy who looked great in his few starts over here) have proven that they can pitch here in the AL so that make a big difference. I do think we have enough offense WITH THE STAFF THAT WE HAVE, if we had a garbage staff and were throwin out say danks and kotsay everyday then we might be in some trouble. Ive said this numerous times (and i almost wanna save my original post and just keep posting it on all these "god were gonna suck" threads or when it turns into one which i guess im kind of doing right now by going along with the past few posts) we could POTENTIALLY have a good offense as well, I see rios bouncing back and becoming our 3 hitter, which drops Q into cleanup, and PK down to the 5 spot where he wont have as much pressure to mash 40 HR which I dont he can do anymore. I would like to see lexi given the leadoff spot if we go with what we got then if we go with danks out there and he performs throw him up there in the leadoff spot. Id start flowers out in AAA for a month and if hes mashin then id bring him up to take the DH role from Kotsay, that being said Id sign henry blanco as a backup catcher and to go along with what princess dye said id also sign 1 more good arm for the pin just in case linebrink is a dud again.

Red Sox maybe not desperate for a SS
2nd_city_saint787 replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
i think he would be a quality starter hit in the 2 hole, Iguchi wasnt that good of a hitter in 05 he just did what a guy in the 2 hole should do and look where gooch got us. Plus hes still one of the best defenders in the game. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) Would Nix, Vizquel or Retherford be a decent 2B option if this happens? With the pitching staff we have id love to have a good defense behind em so Vizquel would work for me. -

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) Ellsbury would be that big time talent. He is 26 years old, stole 70 bases, hit .301 and had an OBP of .355 in 2009. Ding ding ding... yes lexi gives us some pop which we are somewhat lacking but Ellsbury is a "rich mans" scotty pods. Then we can get a guy like a Hudson or Polanco both of which would look great in the 2 hole which allows becks to move to the 3 hole which then makes the middle of the lineup look more dangerous. Hell id be content with throwin omar out there for a year and hope CJ develops more and is able to become a full time player. I also wouldnt mind sending omar out there in the 2 hole because he can get the little things done like iguchi did for us in 05. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) Sergio Santos making best pitch to stick with Chicago White Sox Although Santos, 26, is out of options and must make the Sox's Opening Day roster or be exposed to waivers, his quick ascent is one of the more remarkable achievements in the organization. Great article, is there any way you guys see the bolded part happening? we already have pena linebrink and dj as righties in the pen. Do think the sox might put 4 RHP in the pen? Or do you think we could move linebrink? Its sounding like if he doesnt make the team that he could very well be claimed off waivers.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) Giving the Tigers (a division rival nonetheless) a top-notch starter, an above-average shortstop, our top three prospects, and basically $12 - $15 million to throw around for a replacement for Cabrera would be about as bad as it gets. Why in god's name would you want to pay that steep of a price to take on a $100 million plus financial burden? Would I take him off their hands for minimal talent? Most likely, but I would never give up that much talent for a guy locked into that kind of contract. Might as well wait one year and give Adrian Gonzalez $20 million a year and save all your talent. First and foremost maybe it was a bit much maybe take out hudson or lexi but as the previous poster said you'd be getting a guy that consistently puts up HoF numbers, arguably the best right handed hitter not named albert pujols in baseball (aside from the walks and Ks if you take him out of pitcher friendly comerica and into the cell he can put up pujols numbers) and if you can put together a package to get him you do it esp. if your left with enough pieces around him to compete for a championship which we def would. think about it. you would have (lets say we take hudson out and leave lexi in) 1. Becks 2B (if we dont acquire a lead off guy) 2. Omar SS (he can do the little things a 2 hole hitter should do) 3. TCQ RF 4. MCab 1B/DH 5. PK 1B/DH 6. AJ C 7. Rios CF 8. Teahen 3B 9. Kotsay LF Peavy MB Floyd Garcia Hudson Danks/D2/Lexi/Flowers for a serious title contender....i do it in a second oh and whos to say we dont get out bid on adrian next year so why wait till next year for just a chance? i will go on record saying 2 things 1. I dont think it will happen because were in the same division and 2. i would rather get adrian in a trade and would offer the same package.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) I'm just glad somebody posted something negative about our chances of being better than .500, which right now are not good. I was thinking that everybody has been way too optimistic of our chances just because of starting pitching. I am hoping KW has a plan. It's obvious he wants better defense with the acquisition of Omar and Rios. I agree we don't have the bats to win anything of significance, even our division, but hey, the offseason hopefully has just begun for KW. I think right now was are at best six or seven games over .500 and at worst six or seven under again. That's if we start the season today. why not be optimistic??? we have 4 guys on offense that i think have a legit chance at being all stars in TCQ, gordo, Rios, and lexi....i think everyone is thinking rios is some horrible hitter because he didnt perform well after we got him. the guy is a stud and i will stand by that until he proves me otherwise over a whole year.

QUOTE (ozzfest @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) I just don't see a playoff contender with this lineup at all this year. The only thing I am looking forward to this year is our starting rotation....I think our starting pitching is potentially the best in the bigs. I know people are going to tell me that Kenny isn't close to being done or that I'm jumping the gun, but I really believe that what you see right now is what your going to have opening day. Let's simply go around the horn and talk about our starters. C-AJP-----Love AJ but cant throw anyone out. 1B-PK-----Solid power numbers every year, but getting older and very overpaid. 2B-GB---Kenny over managed this situation and should have left him at third, he was playing great. Kalapse thinks he's not going to have a sophomore slump so....that's that. SS-Alexei- I love his potential, but I think this guy is a bonehead. He is asleep at the wheel at short. Can't hit a curveball. 3B-Teahen-One word- Mediocrity. OF-Rios-Who knows? OF-Quentin- If he can stay healthy he can carry the offense as we witnessed two years ago....but that's a big if OF-FA signing or trade-----feel free to throw around ideas for this one...no idea what were going to do. Can anyone explain to me how this lineup can possibly win anything past our division? If only Obama put the White Sox as part of the bailout ....... Im probably the least nervous person on here, I see A LOT of people over reacting here. This could be due to the fact that im a really optimistic lad but even with what we have now I think we could go deep into the playoffs....I bolded that last sentence because if you believe we can win our division then 1. youre not as nervous as you think 2. you need to realize if we do win our division and make the playoffs pitching wins championships and were gonna be able to go in the 4 deep hell id even go in 5 deep with big game freddy and your going to be going up against teams who either A. dont have the depth we have at sp and theyre gonna have to throw out some middle of the rotation guy against john danks or gavin floyd who are top of the rotation arms or/and B. theyre gonna have to throw out there studs on short rest while we are throwin out a rested horse. If we make it to the playoffs(i obviously think we are) Peavy, Buehrle, Floyd, and Danks are gonna push this team deep. That goes for the regular season as well sure there might be a ton of low scoring 1-0 wins but a W is a W. Now let me get into the offense which while i think the pitching staff is gonna be what carries us our offense even as is has the ability to surprise(i dont think it should be a surprise but they way i hear you guys talkin on here its gonna surprise you) you guys. C-AJP- hes good for atleast a .280 avg 10+ homers around 50 RBI and 60 runs, a lot of teams would love that kind of production from there catcher. 1B-PK- getting 25 and 80 out of him which is around where i think he'll be is good enough to get us by with the staff we have. 2B- mmm Bacon- Just got my espn mag the other day and the kid is in there NEXT section and espn usually knows what theyre talking about i expect .280 25 homers around 40-50 doubles 80+ RBI and close to 100 runs. id love to see him moved into the 3 hole. SS- lexi- I think he has the possibility to break out and be right around the numbers i said for gordo minus the runs and doubles. bringing in Omar is going to help a lot with his defense and i see that carrying over to the offensive side of things as well. I say he at least puts up the kind of numbers he did his rookie year (.290 21 77) if not better. 3B- Teahen- This guy is gonna shock a few people, getting out of the black hole in KC is gonna do a lot for the guy. I expect .270-.280 15HR 60-70 RBI 70-80 runs plus 30+ doubles. OF- Rios- Did he struggle with the sox? yes. yes he did but look at his previous 3 years he had an average no less than .291 and drove in no less than 79 runs and thats including a 06 season where he only played 128 games. Its not like hes getting old or his numbers were inflated because of playing in a hitters ballpark, last i checked the cell is a little bit more hitter friendly then the dome in toronto. I expect his HR total to be up in this ballpark and i see .290 25 85. OF- TCQ- now my mind is drawing a blank here on any other injuries besides the wrist but the wrist should be healthy and if it is we all know what he can do so i dont really need to get into him. OF/DH -unknown- yes there is a question here but ya know what i wouldnt even have a problem with it being danks and kotsay. which i think we all know isnt going to happen well at least the kotsay part i think everyone loves him coming off the bench. Hell id be fine throwin flowers or even viciedo or morel (though id throw him at third teahen in the of and CQ at DH) out there a lot of people overreacting here. relax were fine

QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:52 AM) I didn't bother sending in a list because much like independent voters in political elections, my choices had ZERO chance to win (or even show up on the Top 50 list), so I figured I was wasting my vote. I felt the same way but i had nothing better to do, i was shocked to see one of my bands make it (rise against)......If anything else on my list makes it i will eat my own poo...hey ni you think you could shoot me over my list??

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) Gagne is pitching in the Independent League, and posted an ERA in the mid-4's last year. It's definitely not him. I think Saint may be on to something here...BJ Ryan does fit quite well with what Doc said as well as what this team needs... Itd be a potential nice pickup which if he returns to form(i still dont know what his condition is) it could make jenks expendable at mid season if the sox dont think theyre gonna sign him up long term. If he doesnt return to form oh well it should be a very small contract so its low risk high reward -
