QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 10:39 AM) Would be shocked if Bears contend next year, like all the moves though. It allows us to go for BPA and not say "WE NEED A NOSE TACKLE" or something like that. Except we don't have one of those yet, if they want a big boy. They have talked about Ratliff at NT, but with them chasing Knighton and Dan Williams you would think they're looking to get bigger there. As for contending. With the coaching staff I wouldn't be shocked to see them go 9-7, MAYBE 10-5 if everything goes right, but 8-8 seems likely at this point. Keep in mind, I think in the right circumstances Jay can be a good QB, so that's why I'm probably gonna be more optimistic than most. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) So how many acquisitions is that for Bears this season? That being said, will any of them help the bears actually win something this year? Just 4 new guys so far, McPhee, Rolle, Royal, and Foster(If he signs)....Parker, a CB, and another piece for the line would be nice to "Round out the D" What do you mean by actually win something? -

Wonder if the Bears take a look at Wilfork. Rolle talked about the 2 of them as a package deal. Yes, he's old, but so is Rolle. -

Somewhat interesting to note with the news of Houston to OLB, these are the 40 times of OLBs who played for Vic in SF and Baltimore... Aldon Smith- 4.74 Ahmad Brooks- 4.69 Parys Haralson- 4.80 Terrell Suggs- 4.84 Elvis Dumervill- 4.75 Paul Kruger- 5.00 Courtney Upshaw- 4.76 Jarrett Johnson- 5.07 Both McPhee, Houston, and Young are in the low 4.8s. Allen ran a 4.72, but doubt he's still close to that. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) I dont know if I buy that but even if that's the case I thought there would be teams that would approached Pace about Cutler. Even if it was just to sniff around and see what the cost maybe and hash something out from there. Apparently Gase really likes Cutler and who knows about Pace. He holds his cards really close so its been difficult to gauge what his opinions are. Gase does indeed. Worked together in Denver, have stayed close throughout the years from what I've read. Between the Gase hire, and them hiring a guy Jay publicly lobbied for a few years back to be the QB coach, I think the writing was already on the walls.....And I'm one of the few guys that is ok with that. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) With so much stupid going around in the NFL with teams making decisions on QB's I thought there was a good chance Pace would find a sucker for Cutler. There is so much out of town stupid going around on other cast offs from last years team like Trestman and Marshall for one, why couldnt there be one team to be out of town stupid on Cutler? Oh well, I know its because of the money but time will tell how clever Pace can be in personnel moves. Jeff Dickerson @ESPNChiBears 16m16 minutes ago Pace continues to insist the #Bears never explored trading Jay Cutler. Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 16m16 minutes ago On Jay Cutler: I spoke with as many QB-needy teams as I could to see if #Bears GM Ryan Pace tried to trade Cutler. None said he did. Mort said the same thing on Carmen and Silvy (or whatever show is on AM1000 around 11) this morning. Didn't even try to trade him. -

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) So Houston is going to be an OLB in the new 3-4. For some reason I had the impression that he would be more of a DE in a 3-4 since he's not really a pass rushing specialist. Now I am confused as to who actually fits as a 3-4 DE. Can somebody fill me in on what type of player is ideal for that position? He did get a lot of pressure in Oakland, so he can get after the QB. Think he'll be used more so to set the edge. Think he like McPhee will lineup all over the place. I know they've been talked about as NTs, but I think Ratliff and Ego can both play DE. With the Bears looking at big boys like Knighton and Williams I think they're looking for a little bit more size than those 2 inside. If Sutton improves he could be a fit as well at DE. -

Lamarr Houston to OLB....Very interesting. That's a couple big boys in Houston and McPhee at OLB. Interesting dynamic. One thing I've read about Fangios D in San Fran is that their ILBs dropped into coverage more than any other team, so those 2 big guys probably won't be dropping into coverage. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 09:35 AM) Knighton is visiting Washington today I believe. Culliver is probably out of their price range right now. Not a huge Waynes fan, but wouldn't mind him. Would much rather have Jalen Collins from LSU. My guy at 7 is Vic Beasley. It'll be interesting to see if they still go OLB at 7 with the McPhee signing. Fox has already talked about Young and Allen as OLBs, Christian Jones could possibly bring some upside at OLB, then there's SMC, Washington, and Bassas well. IMO If they don't get Knighton they should grab Shelton. If they get Knighton but not a corner I'd go Waynes (Or trade down for J. Collins.) If they grab both Knighton and a starting CB, but miss out on a safety I'd try to trade down for Landon Collins. If they fill all those holes in FA that's where it'd get interesting. Do you take Cooper/White? OLB? OT? Trade down for Erik Kendrick? -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) I like Foles. He gets beat up over his play last year, but he didn't play in a lot of games and His first three starts were actually pretty good. The year before he was great. I think the Rams made a good move. Foles reminds me a lot of McCown. He got to destroy a lot of the same awful defenses McCown did in 2013, then was dreadful the following year. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) Brad Biggs @BradBiggs 7m7 minutes ago Be interesting to see what direction #Bears go in today. Eddie Royal would be very good No. 2/3 option. Provide something they lack. Our guy Aaron Lemming saying he won't leave Chicago without a contract....Hasn't been wrong yet. I'm most intrigued about what goes down with Knighton. I'm hoping they grab Knighton, Parker, and hopefully Chris Culliver, though with the CB market so inflated they might pass. On the note of the CB market being inflated, what's everyones thoughts on Trae Waynes at 7? -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) I didn't think Packers were going to be able to keep Bulaga and Cobb. I'm glad they got that done. If they could sign one free agent, I'd like it to be Dan Williams. Really underrated NT. I'm surprised the Bears haven't been mentioned with him. Aaron Leming @AaronLemingNFL 1m1 minute ago DT Dan Williams also on #Bears radar. Oakland & NYG Giants also in on him. Expected to be cheaper than Knighton. We got any PFF members here?...Or don't we have a Chiefs fan here? Curious what the deal with Ron Parker is. His numbers look good (94 tackles, 12 pass deflections, 1 pick), and he played for the #2 pass defense in the league, but PFF has his rating as the 5th worst FA safety. Bears are said to be interested. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) They are not cutting Cutler. If someone is going to offer them a couple draft picks he will be gone for sure. But to cut him and have nothing to show for it including a QB I don't see that happening. I do tend to agree with this though. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Wouldn't the cap implications of cutting Cutler be too significant for it to make sense to do so? It would be significant for this year, but I think cutting him before Tuesday opens things up for the future. If the FO doesn't think they can win this season, it could make since to just punt Cutler. -

I'm hoping Phillip Dorsett is there in the 2R and that's our pick. Great route runner in the slot who will stretch defenses. I'm not ready to give up on Wilson either. Kid doesn't turn 23 until September, and I think there's still plenty of upside there. Ride it out with Jeffery/Dorsett/Wilson next year and if Wilson doesn't step up then you know what to address the following year. -
